Erling Haaland scored his fourth Manchester City hat-trick and took his goal tally for the season to 31 in all competitions as relegation-threated Wolves were swept aside by Pep Guardiola's men.

By his own incredibly high standards, Haaland had been going through a barren spell.

But after ending a three-game drought against Tottenham on Thursday, the Norwegian demolished Wolves in a 12-minute spell either side of half-time.

    Match report.

  4. Gunners debut for Trossardpublished at 11:42 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2023

Leandro Trossard also made his debut this weekend. The 28-year-old switched the Amex for the Emirates after joining Arsenal from Brighton for £21m.

He came on as a 82nd-minute substitute for the Gunners in their 3-2 win over Manchester United.

  5. Mudryk makes Chelsea debutpublished at 11:37 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2023

We saw a couple of debuts across the Premier League this weekend.

Mykhailo Mudryk was lively when he came off the bench after 55 minutes in Chelsea's 0-0 draw against Liverpool at Anfield.

The Blues' £89m new signing had a weaving run into the penalty area which ended with a shot into the side-netting and he was unlucky on two occasions when he stole in unnoticed at the far post.

Chelsea boss Graham Potter said: "He's not played football for a while, he's been on a mid-season break. We had to manage his minutes, but you can see his quality."

Brighton fan - wow, the first half of the season has been the proverbial roller coaster! Great start under Potter, culminating in the 5-2 win over Leicester. Then devastation when in the space of a few days Chelsea stripped us of our manager and most of the back room staff. On to the De Zerbi era and now playing some of the best football in the EPL with an awesome squad! Downside the vultures are circling...

Injury list at Liverpool is one of the two problems we've got. Why are so many players getting injured and not always from playing? The other problem is the lack of forward thinking on recruitment. Hard to reconcile this season and last.

    Alan, West Sussex

As a Liverpool fan we all know the season isn't over until the final whistle on the final day. For Arsenal to claim the title they have to win every game now, including 2 against City. As City will probably win every game, welcome to our world over the last few years!

Newcastle v Southampton (Tuesday, 20:00 GMT)

Nottingham Forest v Man Utd (Wednesday, 20:00 GMT)

Forest manager Steve Cooper and Southampton boss Nathan Jones will also be speaking to the media later today. We'll bring you all the main lines from those.

  15. 'A lot of work going on'published at 10:43 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2023

EFL Cup semi-finals: Southampton v Newcastle (Tue, 20:00 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Howe speaking about Newcastle's January transfer plans: "From my side I try to shift my focus from one thing to another and I think that is one of my strengths. My first priority is always the games and is always the players we have here. Then once that is done we turn to the transfer market and making sure we identify the players that can come into the group and make us stronger.

On finding a replacement for Chris Wood, who has joined Nottingham Forest on loan: "The club are trying. That’s where we are, there is no news to give you. No positive news but there is a lot of work going on."

  16. 'Desperate for the next step'published at 10:38 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2023

EFL Cup semi-finals: Southampton v Newcastle (Tue, 20:00 GMT)

More from Howe on Tuesday's semi-final first-leg: "We want it to be a tie for the supporters. The only way we can guarantee that is by performing at our best. I think the away game will be a really good spectacle for the fans that travel. It’s on TV so everyone will have chance to watch.

"Then the home game will be a special night I think. Our job is to make sure we are in a good position going into that tie. We are desperate for the next step but we have to take our mind off that and focus on the process and the job and the job is to go to Southampton and perform well."

  17. 'A really special game'published at 10:34 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2023

EFL Cup semi-finals: Southampton v Newcastle (Tue, 20:00 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Howe on reaching a semi-final: "We are delighted to be where we are but the semi-final itself isn’t enough for anybody. You go into these games and to say you got into a semi-final means nothing, you want to get one step further. I know the players feel the same way.

On whether Tuesday's tie is the biggest game of the season: "It’s a really special game. It’s difficult to categorise where it stands in the season. For me, we understand the importance of these two games coming up. In our season as well because we always want to keep the positive momentum.

  18. 'A chance to get away from the Premier League'published at 10:30 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2023

EFL Cup semi-finals: Southampton v Newcastle (Tue, 20:00 GMT)

    Newcastle United

    Eddie HoweImage source, Getty Images

Howe on whether Southampton have changed under Nathan Jones: "I’d say not a huge transition. Ralph [Hasenhuttl] had his way of playing and Nathan has his. There are subtle differences but not drastic changes.

"Nathan I admire greatly as a manager. I think he has done very well in his career looking at what he did at Luton. He has now gone to a new club and he is looking to implement his ideas there. We know with a new manager and new players coming in we face a different challenge than under Ralph.

"With the cup game it is a chance for both teams to get away from the Premier League and the pressure that brings and that will be an interesting dynamic going into these games."

  19. 'A hugely satisfying achievement'published at 10:25 Greenwich Mean Time 23 January 2023

EFL Cup semi-finals: Southampton v Newcastle (Tue, 20:00 GMT)

    Newcastle United

Eddie Howe on Newcastle's recent performances: "I think we have played well and our general performances have been of a very high level. That’s the first thing you look for – how is the team performing.

"Are we seeing what we are executing in training on the pitch? Yes we are. Is it perfect? No. Will it ever be? No. You are always looking to improve. Of course would like more goals but I can’t fault the effort of the players."

On going 15 Premier League games unbeaten: "To go 15 games is hugely satisfying achievement. The disappointing thing is after the game on Saturday it didn’t feel that way, it felt like a defeat. The expectations are so high internally and externally and we are very motivated as a group that we were disappointed with the actual result, not the performance.

"We need to keep perspective of how well the players are doing and make sure they don’t feel any burden or any negativity."
