    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe talking to BT Sport: "Training has been good in response to the cup final defeat. We are looking for a better performance in the critical areas.

"You always think about tweaking your team slightly. Our bench looks very, very strong and we are going to need the whole squad.

"It is a difficult challenge. Manchester City are outstanding and a lot will depend on our start to the match."

I wouldn't quite go as far a saying Newcastle United are running out of steam, but they are flagging a little bit.

They weren't outplayed by Manchester United in the Carabao Cup final, but I thought Erik ten Hag's side won pretty comfortably.

Manchester City have to win, really. The pressure is on them now, especially after Arsenal's victory in midweek, and the champions are getting to the stage where they know they can't slip up.

    Chris Sutton's prediction: 3-1.

Ederson's next clean sheet for Manchester City will be his 100th in the Premier League. However, he's conceded in each of his last five league games since keeping his 99th shutout.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe says he has "not sought any assurances" after fresh questions were raised about the ownership of the club.

The Premier League approved the takeover by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) after receiving "legally binding assurances" that the Saudi state would not control the club.

But in a US court case this week, Newcastle chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan has been described as "a sitting minister of the government" with "sovereign immunity".

"I've not given it too much time," Howe said when asked on Friday about the latest stories. "I'm aware of the headlines, but I haven't really invested in the details behind them.

"It's not a conversation for me to brief on these matters because I'm not qualified to do it. For me, my job is training the players. The minute I deviate from that is the minute I go into dangerous waters."

After Manchester City beat Arsenal last month, we all thought they were going to go on a run until the end of the season and no-one was going to catch them. They went to Nottingham Forest and dropped two points and the whole thing turns around again.

A couple of things don't seem right. Joao Cancelo leaving in January, there seems to be a lot going on. People talk about a big squad at Chelsea but there's a big squad at Manchester City too. It's difficult to keep every player happy.

Vincent Kompany will be Manchester City boss one day, says Pep Guardiola. Kompany, who won four Premier League titles, four EFL Cups, two FA Cups and two Community Shields during 11 years as a player at City, is manager of Burnley, who visit City in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on 18 March.

"His destiny to be Manchester City boss is written in the stars," says Guardiola, who is in his seventh season as City boss.

"It is going to happen. I don't know when but it is going to happen."

This is a huge game and if Newcastle are not at their best they will get turned over. I think it's the perfect game for Newcastle because if their players don't play at their maximum level they won't get a result.

If Newcastle get top six this season it will have been a hugely successful season.

Afcbrossco: One thing I don't get is why Jack Grealish gets booed so much by opposition fans. He is a joy to watch. He is fast, attacks players going forward, which is why he gets fouled so much, and he always has a smile on his face. I know he looks for the foul sometimes but when you are kicked as often as he is, because players don't know how to handle him, I think he earns it.

After five successive away games, of which they won three and drew too, City are back on home ground for the first time since they beat Aston Villa 3-1 here on 12 February. It's just as cold and cloudy here now as it was then by the way.

That's good news for Pep Guardiola, whose side have the best home record in the Premier League this season, with 10 wins, one draw (against Everton) and one defeat (versus Brentford) so far.

But the sight of the Etihad Stadium is not usually a welcome one for any Newcastle manager. The Magpies have won here once, in a League Cup tie in 2014, but their Premier League track record is a dismal one: they have managed just two draws in 17 visits and have lost the last 13 in a row.

No one has provided more this season, with De Bruyne on 12 - three ahead of Arsenal's Bukayo Saka, his nearest rival.

I was at Wembley with Newcastle for both the 1998 and 1999 FA Cup finals. That was at the end of the season and you can go away and recover. Newcastle's cup final defeat last week was different because it's in the middle of the season.

You've got less than a week to recover before you are playing again. The players will be hurting but they have got to use it as a motivational tool to try and push on.

I'm not saying it's a long time since Newcastle won at Manchester City in the Premier League but there are three reasons you can tell it was a while ago...

    1) It was at Maine Road, and City moved out in 2003.

    2) Sir Bobby Robson was Magpies manager

...and 3) Alan Shearer had hair!

Shearer also scored the winner, as Newcastle won 1-0 back in September 2000.

Newcastle have had a really good season, lots of positives, fifth in the table and got to a cup final. Can they get Champions League? It's going to be a massive ask.

The likes of Liverpool and Tottenham are fighting. It's going to be difficult to stay in the European places.
