  1. Goodnightpublished at 20:15 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2023

Thanks for joining us on what proved to be a bit of a landmark day.

All seven Premier League games were won by the home team. The only other time that's happened with seven or more games was on 28 October 2000 (8/8 home wins).

The most noteworthy today was Arsenal's 3-2 comeback victory over Bournemouth where the first and last goals had 97 minutes between them.

We'll be back tomorrow with relegation six pointer Nottingham Forest v Everton and Liverpool v Manchester United.

  2. 'It's a pleasure to lead them'published at 20:13 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2023

    FT: Southampton 1-0 Leicester

    Southampton

Southampton manager Ruben Selles, speaking to Match of the Day: "I'm very proud of the hard work the boys put in on the pitch, the togetherness they showed also. It was not the best game in terms of football but you saw a team working together, fighting together, picking the moments and we were lacking a bit in the end but we missed a penalty when we had an opportunity to score. I'm very happy with the response from the boys, I think they deserve it. I have a great dressing room and it's a pleasure to lead them.

"When you play that cup game and you make so many changes sometimes the difference is the relationships on the pitch. That's what we tried to do with the line-up today and also get some tactical things on point. We saw players fighting for each other, fighting for each other, helping each other and that's the minimum we need to show. I'm very proud we have that minimum and from that we can win matches."

On Carlos Alcaraz: "He's really good in the trigger moments. His speed and acceleration lead us into some great pressing moments. I think it worked until he got injured.

"I think we are trying to build relationships for Carlos. It's been difficult because he doesn't speak good English so it's always difficult to come. The rest of the team also need to learn a few words in Spanish to help him.

"I think he's a young player with a lot of potential and for sure he will learn from today. I'm very pleased with his performance."

On if they can get out of the relegation battle: "I think every point, every three points helps for us. I know today was not the best but we need to learn from that. It's always best to learn from the victory. I think we are alive, we have a great group of players. We are fighting together, playing together, doing things together. That's the way to get out of relegation."

    FT: Southampton 1-0 Leicester

    Southampton

Southampton winger Theo Walcott: "Today wasn't the most technical game, it wasn't the most exciting to watch. But we worked hard together; it has been a challenging week and I am exhausted.

"We always come together. We kept on going, but it wasn't a very good spectacle. I've always been here, I think I can give something and I've got more in my legs. I came back here and I care for this club. It is important for the players, for the staff; we want to be in the Premier League and we are going in the right direction."

  6. 'We need to be more clinical'published at 20:11 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2023

    FT: Southampton 1-0 Leicester

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers speaking to Sky Sports: "I'm disappointed with the scoreline. But the performance was what we'd want.

"Our only disappointment was not taking opportunities; we started well, got into good areas. We lacked the little bit of quality to make the difference. We lost control for a small period and that period counts. We are disappointed with the goal but the players regrouped. The opportunities we created, we couldn't finish.

"We've shown we can score goals, and we will continually work on it. Sometimes you get games like that. If we continue to play like that, we'll get the points we need to stay up. But it is so tight, right up to mid-table.

"It is my responsibility to get the team ready. We've got a great group of players who are very honest; they had the courage to take the ball and you could see that. If we can be clinical, we'll win more games."

  10. 'We have to do better'published at 20:09 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2023

    FT: Southampton 1-0 Leicester

    Leicester City

Leicester defender Ricardo Pereira: "It's difficult. Even if we had got one point the feeling would be the same. We started the game well, second half we were better, more chances, had nice play, but we didn't score and when you don't score you don't win."

On if they are concerned about being dragged into a relegation battle: "It's close, it's tight. We know we have to do better and have to keep working and stay together."

On returning to the team: "It's nice to back, playing my first 90 minutes and one more to help."

  11. 'Everyone played their role'published at 20:08 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2023

    FT: Southampton 1-0 Leicester

    Southampton

Southampton striker Che Adams to Sky Sports: "It was a grind from start to finish and we knew that would be the case. We had the fans with us today and pushed through to the end.

"I saw Alcaraz behind me and I knew he was in. We work on that in training and I'm glad it was onside. Everyone played their role today."

  15. 'I think we are alive... we are going to go for it'published at 20:04 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2023

    FT: Southampton 1-0 Leicester

    Southampton

Southampton manager Ruben Selles on BBC Radio 5 Live: "It has been a very disappointing week but we got there at the end of the game today.

"They worked hard and showed togetherness. It wasn't the best game of football but we managed the key moments and we can celebrate a victory at St Mary's, which I haven't done since August.

"It's very important to us as we try to stay in the Premier League.

"I told them before the game I was proud of how they handled the disappointment from midweek.

"I have been proud of the work they've done in training over the last few days.

"We knew we needed Carlos Alcaraz higher up the pitch. We wanted to have space to play in behind the centre-back. It's a fantastic finish from him.

"It looks like he suffered an injury in the celebration. It's the first goal we scored in open play in the Premier League for a long time. He didn't play recently from the start in the league and he wanted to show what he can do.

"We need to do some tests and analyse his injury."

On whether they can survive: "We have six points from our last three games and we have been competitive. I think we are alive, I think we are working well and I don't think we are worse than any team in the Premier League so we are going to go for it.

"Our target is to continue fighting. If we keep showing the spirit we did today then we can achieve what we want.

"They are a great group of boys and we need to believe that they can do it."

  16. 'We'll pick up the points we need'published at 20:00 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2023

    FT: Southampton 1-0 Leicester

    Leicester City

More from Rodgers to Match of the Day, on Kelechi Iheanacho: "He's been scoring, that's why you keep him on. He's the player that's really looked like scoring in every game he's played. Unfortunately the chances didn't go in."

On if he is concerned with where Leicester are in the table: "I think we're in amongst a number of teams. It's all very tight. We'll continue to work hard and stay together. I thought for the players tonight because we deserved more than that. We created as many chances tonight against Tottenham and Aston Villa where we scored four but we just couldn't score. We keep playing with that confidence and keep creating chances and I'm sure they'll drop for us.

On if he sees his team as being part of the relegation battle: "Yeah, I've felt that. There's a lot of teams in and around that area. I don't think right up until the mid-table are any teams thinking they're safe. There's still a lot of games to play and if we continue to perform like we did this evening we'll pick up the points we need."

On James Maddison: "He's a special player. He's got a great personality. I thought he was outstanding tonight, worked hard for the team and he produced that magic. He's created some great opportunities but unfortunately we just couldn't finish them."

  17. 'Perform like that and they'll be fine'published at 19:57 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2023

    FT: Southampton 1-0 Leicester

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers, speaking to Match of the Day: "I think we would've been disappointed to have drawn. We created enough opportunities, dominated the ball and got into some good areas. The players perform like that for the rest of the season and they'll be fine. The result is disappointing.

"I think the first 30 minutes we were excellent in how we wanted to play. Maybe the only criticism was needing a bit more finesse and a better choice of pass in the final third. Then they get the penalty. As any player will tell you, it's very hard when you're sliding for your arm not to come up so I thought it was harsh but the rules are the rules. Ward makes a great save.

"We've conceded from our own static goal-kick where we didn't get to the second or third ball quick enough and they ended up scoring. We regained control again, got into some really good areas, had some really good chances but didn't make the keeper work."

  18. Postpublished at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2023

    Southampton 1-0 Leicester

Leicester City have lost their last three games in the Premier League, their worst run in... well only seven weeks actually. They lost four in a row from 26 December to 14 January.

  19. 'We are learning as a group'published at 19:53 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2023

    FT: Southampton 1-0 Leicester

    Southampton

Southampton boss Ruben Selles to Sky Sports: "The performance can always be better. But there are lots of positives we can take, especially three points. I saw a team working together, suffering together. I will work on the performance for next week but it was important to show we are working as a group.

"We are learning together. We need to take one moment at a time, sometimes things will happen like penalties and VAR. If we aren't taking them, at least they are not going against us. It is a challenge and we are going to prepare to win at Old Trafford. We are going to go and try to win the game."

  20. 'The players gave their all'published at 19:51 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2023

    FT: Southampton 1-0 Leicester

    Leicester City

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live: "The players made a great start to the game.

"We obviously gave away the penalty but Danny Ward makes a great save and that gave them momentum for five or 10 minutes.

"Apart from that I thought we were good in the game, it was just the final third where we had good chances but didn't make the keeper work enough.

"The players gave their all and I can't fault that.

"I think Southampton got a lift from missing the penalty but only for a short period and we played our way back in and dominated the second half.

"We're disappointed in how we conceded the goal but we gave everything."

On finding consistency: "We started the season poorly, one point from six games and then we went on a nice run but we haven't found our rhythm since we came back from the World Cup.

"We just need to stay together now and keep fighting.

"When I see the team perform like tonight it gives me confidence. The worry is if you're not creating chances. A draw would have been disappointing but I really feel for the players."

On the injury to Victor Kristiansen: "He hurt his ankle in training so he'll be out for around four weeks. It's a shame because he's been really good for us."
