An early free kick for Liverpool as Cody Gakpo goes down under a challenge from Casemiro. Not much in the contact.

Trent Alexander-Arnold takes the free kick, firing it into the box but Manchester United clear.

Players on the pitch hug and high five each other and then get into position.

Plent of noise from the Manchester United supporters packed into one half of the Anfield Road end. They have arrived in much happier mood than their last visit here in April.

Liverpool were flying in search of an historic quadruple while United were floundering under interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

It ended in a 4-0 win for rampant Liverpool, who finished the night top of the table and 22 points ahead of United with a game in hand.

United currently stand 10 points ahead of Liverpool, an indication of progress under manager Erik ten Hag.

A cracking atmosphere at Anfield as the two teams head out onto the pitch.

I'll be surprised if there's any caution from either side in this game, they'll want the win and the bragging rights.

  6. 'Disappointed with the referee'published at 16:26 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2023

    FT: Nottingham Forest 2-2 Everton

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper, speaking to Sky Sports: "There's a lot to be pleased about. Obviously we're disappointed with the goals we conceded. Everton started brighter than us but I like the fact we came back twice in the game especially after what happened last week [lost 0-4 at West Ham].

"We definitely deserved at least a draw but we also need to know we have to do better with the goals conceded.

"I am disappointed with the referee but we'll reflect on it. I thought he got lots of decisions wrong. He will know that and he will probably have to explain his performance as well. It's a pity things like that ended up having an impact on the game.

"You want to win or lose with what the opponent does - not the officials. The lads are a bit disappointed they didn't win but they gave everything and showed courage."

  7. 'It's a great building block'published at 16:24 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2023

    FT: Nottingham Forest 2-2 Everton

    Everton

Everton boss Sean Dyche speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, after the Toffees first point on the road against Nottingham Forest: "I'm pleased, we're doing the right things and there's been real commitment to the cause since I joined.

"We got in so many good positions today. We know that they have a good record here too.

"It's just the details now, we've got to stamp out the mistakes but we defended well and countered today.

"There was a lot of plusses about the performance. We know that we have to win games but you have to re-start and this showed a really step forward.

"This was a really good away performance. It's a great building block to carry on the journey with."

Mohamed Salah is one goal short of equalling Robbie Fowler's Premier League club record of 128.

He has scored eight Premier League goals versus Manchester United - only Alan Shearer, with 10, has more.

  9. Can Liverpool keep Rashford out?published at 16:21 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2023

Manchester United were finding it tough against West Ham in the FA Cup on Wednesday but they changed the game when they brought on Casemiro and Marcus Rashford, and went up through the gears.

Liverpool don't seem able to do that at the moment and the turnaround - for different reasons, good and bad - for both teams since the start of season has been unbelievable really.

Jurgen Klopp's side have kept a couple of clean sheets in a row now, against Crystal Palace and Wolves, which was important for them but it's really not that big a deal because neither of those teams offer much in attack, do they?

Liverpool did the same last month when they beat Everton and 10-man Newcastle without conceding, but then they got hammered at home by Real Madrid.

Put it this way, I don't think it means Liverpool will keep Rashford out on Sunday. They get dominated in midfield and are vulnerable at the back, and United will take advantage of that.

    Prediction: 1-2

  10. Trio = goals galore?published at 16:19 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2023

Liverpool v Man Utd (16:30 GMT)

This is the fifth time this season that Fabinho, Harvey Elliott and Jordan Henderson have all started together for Liverpool - in the previous four, the Reds have won all four matches, scored 21 goals and only conceded twice.

  11. 'It is about how good we defend and attack'published at 16:16 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2023

Liverpool v Man Utd (16:30 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Kopp, speaking to Sky Sports on what it takes to win these kind of games: "Play good is helpful. Be aggressive, but not overly. Be compact, be wild in moments, be brave - these kinds of things.

"It is a derby but sometimes we know the emotions can get the best out of us or the other way round.

"It is all about how good we defend and how good we attack."

On his midfield selection: "Mix of what we need to experience. Harvey played a really good game against Wolves."

Not signing a striker in either transfer window is criminal. Not only was Sean Dyche asked to walk a tightrope but he's now forced to do it blindfolded while on horseback. We're running out of words to criticise the ineptitude of the Everton hierarchy.

  13. 'Disappointed not to win'published at 16:11 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2023

    FT: Nottingham Forest 2-2 Everton

    Everton

Everton defender Michael Keane: "I thought we played well. We looked a threat all game going forward and limited Nottingham Forest to very few chances. They were clinical when they had a couple and we could have done better for both goals that they scored.

"In general it was a good response to our midweek defeat at Arsenal. You could see energy in the team and we showed quality too. Everyone in the dressing room is disappointed not to come away with three points because I think we edged it.

"It is a step in the right direction."

  14. 'Man Utd capable of punishing Liverpool'published at 16:10 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2023

Liverpool v Man Utd (16:30 GMT)

Football Focus pundit Stephen Warnock believes if Liverpool try to go "toe-to-toe" with Manchester United, they could end up being "punished" by Erik ten Hag's side.

  15. Why this game is bigger for Liverpool than Man Utdpublished at 16:07 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2023

Liverpool v Man Utd (16:30 GMT)

    Danny Murphy
    Former Liverpool and England midfielder

    .

Fourth place is everything to Liverpool now, which is why Sunday's game at Anfield is much bigger for them than it is for Manchester United.

United are in a great position going into it, and not just because they are in terrific form. They have cemented themselves in the top three, have already lifted one trophy and more silverware could follow this season.

They can afford a bad game, or even a bad result, this weekend without it derailing their entire campaign. Unfortunately for Liverpool, their situation is completely different.

Jurgen Klopp's side are already playing catch-up in the Premier League after some disappointing results and their heavy defeat by Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie means that finishing fourth is, realistically, the only target they have left.

  16. What's at stakepublished at 16:05 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2023

Liverpool v Man Utd (16:30 GMT)

    .

Right, time to switch focus to the big one - Liverpool versus Manchester United and this is a game that certainly feels like it will deliver in the entertainment stakes.

Liverpool are sixth but take three points today and they would be just a win away from the top four.

A win for Manchester United, meanwhile, would strengthen their position in the top three and keep them within touching distance of Manchester City - they'd be six points behind with a game in hand.

Both Forest and Everton need the win - showing real commitment !! Southampton and Bournemouth will have a fight on their hands if they cannot match these teams !

If Everton are struggling with strikers why don't they use the aerial power of one of the defenders on the bench and put them up front. We've got wide players who can deliver the crosses.

This is what that result does to the bottom of the Premier League, which is not a great deal.

Everton remain in the relegation zone but are level on points with Leeds, while Nottingham Forest retain that four-point gap above the bottom three.

Who on earth is going down from that lot? Incredibly tight!

  19. 'Brilliant game'published at 15:57 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2023

    FT: Nottingham Forest 2-2 Everton

    Clinton Morrison
Former Republic of Ireland striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

That was a brilliant game and that's what you want when you're fighting relegation. People were throwing themselves around and putting their bodies on the line.

If a point is good for any team then I would probably say it's more useful to Forest than Everton.

If both of these teams play like this until the end of the season then they'll be safe, or at least have a very good chance.
