It has been a frantic start at Elland Road, not helped by the fact Leeds dropped into the bottom three as a result of Bournemouth's win over Liverpool.

To make matters worse Everton's early goal has Leeds 19th as things stand.

  2. 'That has been coming'published at 15:06 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2023

    FT: Bournemouth 1-0 Liverpool

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Gary O'Neil, speaking to BT Sport: "A big result, obviously. Smiling, I haven't smiled after games that much recently so that's been coming, to be honest.

"Manchester City and Arsenal were two performances that the boys should have been proud of and we didn't take anything from them. But today, fine margins go in our favour and we beat one of the best teams in England.

"That's what it takes for us, we always leave everything out there. They left everything out there last week and I answered a lot of questions in the week about if I needed to pick the pads up after the late goal at Arsenal. The lads showed my answer today for 90 minutes."

On change of formation: "We will change shape whenever we think it suits an opposition. For Arsenal and Manchester City, the shape helped us to stay in both games and today the different shape helped us win it."

On impact of the goal: "We had a couple of other real big moments as well. I'm a little bit disappointed we didn't score more than one. But then the penalty that was or wasn't went if our favour with him missing. Fine margins but we're competitive, we've had a right go against a good team and today - as the lads deserved - it went our way."

On Dango Ouattara: "He was a threat and did a real diligent job as well, Andy Robertson attacks a lot so he tracked him and still managed to beat him back the other way in a race.

"I thought there were some top performances. Lloyd Kelly hasn't done a lot of work recently, he's been out a while with two fairly serious injuries and to come back in with that performance against Mohamed Salah shows everything that he has the potential to be. I'm pleased for him."

On nerves late on: "I think it will always feel like that. When you're playing a good side, they will throw men forward, the ball is going to bounce around in your box and you're going to need to block things and for things to go your way a little bit.

"Today we were able to get out, counter a bit and I didn't feel under any real threat. We were solid and apart from balls in the box, percentage things, I felt we were fairly well organised."

On staying up: "I had belief and I'm sure the boys did as well. But it they didn't then they can certainly believe me after today."

Has the Bournemouth win fired up the Everton players? They are well up for this, attacking with pace and throwing themselves into tackles. Brentford cannot settle.

Meanwhile Joao Felix is down in the opening minutes at the King Power after being caught by Ricardo Pereira.

It's not a nice challenge from the Leicester full-back who caught Felix on the shin with his studs.

Nothing from the referee as yet.

    Richarlison (3 mins)

It's a brilliant goal from Tottenham and Richarlison.

A lovely ball is played over the top, Richarlison takes one touch then absolutely thumps it into the roof of the net.

Great finish and the perfect start.

  11. Chelsea to sneak it?published at 14:56 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2023

    Leicester v Chelsea (15:00 GMT)

Leicester have lost their past three league games and also went out of the FA Cup. They are struggling, and their manager Brendan Rodgers is coming under a bit of pressure.

The Foxes actually performed pretty well in their defeat against Southampton last time out but they need a positive result here otherwise the atmosphere at King Power Stadium might start to turn ugly.

I don't see them getting one, though. Chelsea's Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday was huge for their season and I am expecting Graham Potter's side to build on that here.

The Blues don't score many but I worry about Leicester defensively and I think they can get picked apart. I'm going for Chelsea to sneak it, but only just.

    Prediction: 0-1

  12. 'Penalty miss was justice'published at 14:53 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2023

    FT: Bournemouth 1-0 Liverpool

    Bournemouth

Bournemouth defender Adam Smith on his handball, speaking to BT Sport: “Even some of the Liverpool lads said it was a bit harsh. I’m jumping, I can’t see the ball and I’m not sure how I’m meant to stop that? I think my arms were down so maybe a little bit of justice in the end that they missed it.”

On being out of the relegation zone: “It sounds nice. It’s been a struggle the past few games even though we’ve put in some good performances. Credit to the lads, we come in every week, work hard and today it’s paid off. Hopefully we can keep it going and get three points against Aston Villa next week.”

  14. 'Bournemouth deserve the three points'published at 14:50 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2023

    FT: Bournemouth 1-0 Liverpool

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp speaking to BT Sport: "What can I say? It was never really our game. We were dominant in the first half but mostly we put ball in at the wrong moment against a compact side.

"They had their counter-attacks they wanted to have. I really think the spaces we had to play were super clear, super open.

"The rest was more or less busy with covering other spaces, we didn't use that often enough, didn't enjoy the challenge to face a deep, compact side. It's clear we cannot get through with all the balls but it was like we didn't get through and things didn't work out. Little things witch make a massive difference and then we go 1-0 down, not helpful obviously in the counter-attack.

"They did the same stuff but it was successful enough because we didn't defend it well and then I thought we started pretty well in the second half and then got the penalty and we missed it and after that we were in a real rush and didn't create enough really and that's it."

On the defending for the Philip Billing goal: "We cannot go through it completely, pass the ball, don't cover the space. I don't know 100% anymore how the positioning was, I need to watch it back. In the end, a ball comes from the outside into the inside and probably it should be defendable as well but I have to watch it back."

On Mo Salah's penalty miss: "The last penalty we got in the league was long ago and it's completely hypothetical but if we score there, the game could turn. It doesn't make the performance better but could change the result at least. He scores goals, he scores a lot of goals but he missed the penalty, that's life.

"It was clear from the first second that we come here, Bournemouth are fighting to stay in the league, wonderful club, wonderful city, they want to stay in and they do really well. Results were not going in the right direction in the last few months but the performances look different and so they deserve the three points today, that's it."

  15. Deja vu?published at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2023

    Everton v Brentford (15:00 GMT)

Everton's tally of 22 points from 26 games is the same as they had last season.

The Toffees won five of their final 12 league matches to finish 16th, four points above the relegation zone.

    Will history repeat?

  16. Will Elland Road crowd be enough?published at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2023

    Leeds v Brighton (15:00 GMT)

Leeds are pretty similar to Everton in that really they need to win their home games to give themselves a chance of staying up, and also because they don't carry much of an attacking threat.

In fact, Leeds have scored only one goal in their past five games in the league and FA Cup, which is why they are in so much trouble.

They are absolutely desperate for a win here but their problem is that they are facing a Brighton side who are not fazed by anyone.

The Seagulls open teams up and play with a wonderful freedom - they have clicked so many times already this season that they actually have a good chance of making the top four. They don't seem to fear anyone.

Leeds will have the backing of the Elland Road crowd but they are going to have to show great intensity just to keep this one close.

    Prediction: 1-2

    Could Leicester really go down?

The Foxes could suffer five consecutive defeats in all competitions for the first time since a run of six from November to December 2014.

They have failed to register a shot on target in their last two league fixtures and they've gone four top-flight matches without scoring for the first time since a run of six from January to February 2017.

Despite having only played 23 Premier League games, Brighton's total of 43 goals is their joint-highest figure in a top-flight season since 1981-82, and only 11 short of the club record set in 1980-81.

They have registered 136 shots on target in the Premier League this season compared to 75 faced, a difference of 61 - only Manchester City boast a higher positive difference.
