It's a brilliant header from Van Dijk but Jefferson Lerma does exactly what he is there to do. As soon as the ball goes over his head, he gets back on the line and makes the goal-line clearance.

Roberto Firmino: Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp surprised by striker's decision to leave club

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says he was "surprised" by Roberto Firmino's decision to leave Anfield at the end of the season.

The Brazil forward will end an eight-year stay at Anfield when his contract expires in June.

Firmino, 31, had been in talks over a new contract but has chosen to leave.

"Surprised? Yes, a little bit - it could go two ways and it went one. And I respect that a lot," Klopp said.

"But it's completely normal in this kind of long relationship that we have and Bobby has with the club."

  9. 'Having David Brooks back is huge for everybody'published at 12:01 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2023

    Bournemouth v Liverpool (12:30 GMT)

Bournemouth manager Gary O'Neil, speaking to BT Sport: "We’ve had a tough spell with injuries so to have Lloyd Kelly and Jeff Lerma back in the squad will boost the group.

"We've prepared the same as we always do really, we go about it the same way. Looking at where Liverpool will hurt us, how we can hurt them. We’re very, very up for the challenge and looking forward to the game.

"But it’s about having David Brooks back today, that’s huge for everybody."

  10. 'Hopefully Liverpool used up all their goals'published at 11:55 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2023

Bournemouth boss Gary O'Neil says he is hopeful Liverpool "have used all their goals up" after watching them demolish Manchester United 7-0 at Anfield on Sunday.

The Cherries suffered their own 9-0 hiding at the hands of the Reds in August but are in desperate need of points having slipped to the bottom of the Premier League.

"Watching that game [against Manchester United], I thought it was not a great time for them to hit top form," O'Neil said.

"But hopefully they have used up all their goals. They've changed things a bit recently, got a slightly different structure and obviously they are a huge threat.

"A very good side, in very good form and it's a tough ask."

  11. 'All about attitude'published at 11:49 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2023

    Bournemouth v Liverpool (12:30 GMT)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, speaking to BT Sport: "Each Premier League game is a super tough test, we’re long enough in this league to know that. It is all about attitude today and if that is right, it is about football. But if the attitude is not right, that doesn’t matter.

"It is just about this game. Are they playing a back four or five? We will see on the pitch but we just have to play our game.

"Hendo had a bit of a cold but other than that Stefan comes in, the rest the same. A massive change is not needed after playing last Sunday so we go again with the rest.

"Bournemouth have a high press, that’s what they do. They have a midfield press. The better we play, the more they are in their own final third. Then they will be compact, defend deep and counter-attack. It is not easy but it is not the first time we have faced this situation."

Liverpool's emphatic win against Manchester United perhaps could not have come at a better time.

As we enter the business end of the season, Jurgen Klopp's side are fifth but win their game in hand and they will move above an out-of-sorts Tottenham and into fourth.

Even better for Liverpool is that they kick off today's Premier League action against Bournemouth, who they thrashed 9-0 earlier in the season.

Could we see another high-scoring game today?

The BBC's flagship football show Match of the Day is in crisis after its regular commentators joined a boycott of the programme in solidarity with Gary Lineker.

The show's six main pundits and its entire commentary team have stepped back from Saturday's programme.

The BBC asked Lineker to step back from presenting after talks, over his criticism of government asylum policy.

The corporation said it considered his "recent social media activity to be a breach of our guidelines", adding it had been "decided that he will step back from presenting Match of the Day until we've got an agreed and clear position on his use of social media".
