  2. Club should be proud - Hibs boss Johnsonpublished at 18:04 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2023

    FT: Hibernian 6-0 Aberdeen

Lee Johnson has sympathy for departing opposite number Jim Goodwin, but the Hibs manager's main focus was praising his side's thumping victory over Aberdeen.

Asked if the 6-0 win was a result that had been coming considering his side's recent performances, he replies: "I honestly believe it has. I believe the performances have been good.

"The clean sheet is important when it comes down to that defensive solidarity, which gave us the platform to go and attack. We played it forward much better, earlier - I thought Will Fish was outstanding in that.

"It enabled us to get on the front foot and we have pace in behind and, as the game got stretched, the intricacy of our footballers came to the fore. That was a club performance today and the club should be really proud."

  3. 'Motherwell had enough chances'published at 18:02 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2023

    FT: St Mirren 1-0 Motherwell

Motherwell boss Stevie Hammell tells Sportsound: "I don't think it was a great game of football and it was played the way St Mirren wanted it to be played. A couple decisions went against us. We had a couple opportunities we should be doing better with. It's being clinical in the final third and then we've conceded a cheap goal.

"To not even have a look at it (first-half penalty incident) is frustrating. Our analysts said within 10 seconds that it looked like a penalty. From what we've seen, it's worth a look. It's done, what can you do?

"When we hear John [Beaton] is in charge, we think right away it's going to be a tough afternoon. That's consistent with what we've seen this season.

"I felt we'd done enough and we had enough chances. Almost half of the league is involved towards the bottom and we need to stand up and be prepared."

  4. 'We're hard to beat when we go 1-0 up'published at 18:00 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2023

    FT: St Mirren 1-0 Motherwell

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson tells Sportsound: "We don't do it the easy way! The boys battled really hard, were very well organised and showed some really good defensive performances. There were lots of pleasing aspects.

"Curtis Main's work rate was excellent, some terrific performances in the back five and Trevor Carson made two good saves, too. We've earnt those three points. We're hard to beat when we go 1-0 up.

"I'm delighted for Curtis. He works his socks off, he's so unselfish for the team and it's nice for him to get his bit of glory today.

"That's credit to the players, they've been fantastic. They take everything to the letter. We've got a small squad and small staff. They deserve all the praise they're getting."

  5. Mackay looks for more of the samepublished at 17:59 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2023

    FT: Ross County 3-0 Kilmarnock

Ross County manager Malky Mackay: "It was a really good performance today. We did well. It was a tight game, as I knew it was going to be, but at the correct moments we took our chances.

"Eamonn is a proven goalscorer. I had him in the Scotland Under-21s. I know that he's got goals in him. He was excellent today. Nohan [Kenneh] won a lot of second balls and I am delighted for him. He is only 19 years old but he played with a lot of maturity. It was a tough battle in midfield.

"It gives us a little bit of confidence. It pulls us all nicely together, back in with Kilmarnock, Motherwell and Dundee United. We have real belief. If they give me that until the rest of the season we will be there or thereabouts in terms of staying in this division."

  6. Davidson aggrieved at decisionspublished at 17:56 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2023

    FT: Rangers 2-0 St Johnstone

St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson has had his say on the three decisions he feels cost his side today. The handball penalty against James Brown, the red card for Nicky Clark, and the non-red card for Ryan Jack.

"I think it's a difficult one, it's the rules where we are just now. His hand is up but I'm not sure what he can do when it's deflected that near him.

"The handball needs to change. There are too many penalties given easily in games that can have a big impact on the game.

"Again I didn't think it was a red card [for Clark]. He's been fouled initially with a little pull on his arm and he's lost his balance as he's gone to ground.

"Ryan Jack has come towards him rather than him coming in with force. He's actually tried to pull his foot away. I'm not sure what he's meant to do."

"I can't explain it [Jack not being sent off]. I don't get it myself. Ryan went in at speed and with force and caught - with a straight leg - Adam studs up on his ankle. I had a lot of tackles like that in my day and got away with them, but you shouldn't now."

  7. Cantwell a 'bright spark' for Rangers - Bealepublished at 17:53 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2023

    FT: Rangers 2-0 St Johnstone

Rangers manager Michael Beale was asked on Sportsound what his highlights were from the 2-0 win.

"The clean sheet, Todd's debut and Ianis's return," he said. "In between there was some good play without being ruthless enough in the box to score two or three more.

"The game lacked a little bit towards the end in speed. In general we were the dominant team. One or two decisions have gone in our favour that their management team will be disappointed with.

"We're delighted because we got the three points. Onwards and upwards for us.

"In every game since I've come back we've managed to score and if it had been four or five I don't think anyone could complain.

"Todd hasn't played since the beginning of November but I wanted to get him out there and I thought he was the bright spark of the day."

    Former Hibernian manager on Sportsound

Some of these Hibs players have been taking a lot of stick this season and that performance will do them the world of good.

Aiden McGeady is different class. He's got everything. Nisbet has been outstanding since he came back.

Do Aberdeen fans trust Dave Cormack to get the next appointment right after Stephen Glass and Jim Goodwin or is the club's overall strategy fundamentally flawed?

  10. 'Jim has given it everything'published at 17:36 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2023

    FT: Hibernian 6-0 Aberdeen

Aberdeen chairman Dave Cormack spoke to BBC Radio Scotland after the match at Easter Road. Here is what he had to say.

"I'm almost lost for words. I saw our fans there again today, 1700 of them supporting the team, singing the whole game. I've been a fan my whole life and, like them, I'm embarrassed, shocked and humiliated by the results.

"Jim is a good man, has given it everything here. I met him right after the game and he came up and gave me a hug and simply said, 'I know, Dave, it's just not good enough'.

"So we part company for obvious reasons. Since coming back from the World Cup our away form has been abysmal, our form at home has been pretty decent. I think some of the players also need to take responsibility.

"As a Dons fan, I'm 64 now, been going there for close to 60 years, I take responsibility. I am the chairman of the club and I have overseen on the football side the changes we have made.

"It's no consolation for fans to hear how well thing are going off the field, commercially, with fan engagement or our youth academies. They deserve better than that.

"I am absolutely determined to get this right and we will double down with the board. Our vision and our strategy across the club, right through to moving stadium, is the right strategy.

"The most critical thing in a business is making sure you have the right people in place to execute on all aspects. Unfortunately since we came back from the World Cup it has just been really, really challenging.

"Like the fans, I felt quite humiliated today and I'm sorry - they were brilliant today. I am quite emotional about the club. It means everything to me. It's our home city. I have been gone for a long time. I am rightly taking the pelters. I deserve it but I am determined to get it right."

Dave Cormack needs to give a free rein to whoever takes over. He needs to trust the new man to do it his way and not interfere.

    FT: Hibernian 6-0 Aberdeen

    Willie Miller

The good thing is that the chairman has taken responsibility. Dave Cormack is a fan and he has the best interests of the club at heart. But at the same time the fans want to see a winning team.

  13. 'Calamitous decision making'published at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2023

    FT: Hibernian 6-0 Aberdeen

    Tom English
BBC Scotland's chief sports writer on Sportsound

The decision making at Aberdeen has been calamitous. None of the players brought in on big wages and long contracts are good enough.

It's not Jim Goodwin's problem any more but the problem doesn't go away.

  14. 'Aberdeen players a disgrace'published at 17:20 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2023

    FT: Hibernian 6-0 Aberdeen

    Richard Foster
Former Aberdeen defender on BBC Sportsound

I have loads of sympathy for Jim Goodwin. Those players are an absolute disgrace. They don't deserve to wear an Aberdeen shirt. There's no pride in the performance, a total lack of professionalism.

    FT: Hibernian 6-0 Aberdeen

    Willie Miller
Former Aberdeen captain on BBC Sportsound

Both teams were under pressure and Aberdeen couldn't handle it.

It's another embarrassment, heaped on the others.

The board said they wanted an immediate response from the manager and players. Well, they didn't get it. Where do they go now? There's only one option...

  18. ‘Paisley fortress’published at 17:10 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2023

    Kenny Crawford

St Mirren are now 12 games unbeaten at home in all competitions. The last team to triumph in Paisley was Motherwell on 31 July. Today the Steelmen are the losing side, with former Fir Park striker Curtis Main scoring the vital goal.

  19. 'Hibs deserve huge praise'published at 17:08 Greenwich Mean Time 28 January 2023

    FT: Hibernian 6-0 Aberdeen

    Tom English
BBC Scotland's chief sports writer on Sportsound

A lot of the attention will be on Aberdeen, who will almost certainly be looking for a new manager, but it was a brilliant performance from Hibs. They deserve huge praise. Not only did they show heart and spirit, the quality of their football was top notch.

Think of the week they've had. Ryan Porteous is gone, Rocky Bushiri injured, it looked like Kevin Nisbet was away. Yet they come out and show that character under pressure.

    They were everything Aberdeen weren't.
