For the record, technically he does still play for Chelsea. At least until the two clubs make the transfer official.

That is some speedy and impressive work from Manchester United, to be fair.

Sabitzer is a fine addition to their squad and a necessary one following the injury to Christian Eriksen.

Austria international Sabitzer, 28, has played 54 times for Bayern Munich, scoring two goals, since joining them from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021.

  3. Sabitzer flying to Manchesterpublished at 18:13 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

Meanwhile, according to our reporter Simon Stone, Marcel Sabitzer is currently in the air, flying over to the UK to undertake a medical and complete his loan move to Manchester United from Bayern Munich.

    Things are happening, people!

  4. PSG deals for Ziyech and Skriniar still not donepublished at 18:12 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

Paris St-Germain's attempts to sign Hakim Ziyech and Milan Skriniar are not progressing at pace.

Chelsea are haggling over Ziyech, who is in Paris, whilst Inter Milan can't get the signing they need to let Skriniar complete his move.

It will be interesting to see who, if anyone, blinks first.

For reference, the French deadline is nearly an hour after ours, at 2259 - nearly 1am in France, which seems an odd time.

That smells of 'let's get this medical done now just in case, because these negotiations are going to go deep into the evening'.

  12. Spurs 'still need another defender' even if Porro deal goes through - Brownpublished at 17:51 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

Tottenham still need another defender, even if Antonio Conte wraps up the signing of Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon, argues former Spurs midfielder Michael Brown.

Right full-back Porro has been linked with Tottenham throughout January and is having a medical before a potential loan move with an obligation to buy in the summer.

While accepting Porro could solve a problem position for Spurs, Brown feels they still lack balance.

"It's a strange recruitment process with the director of football Fabio Paratici, Daniel Levy and then Conte all involved," he said. "They have been looking for some time and some of their targets have come and gone.

"Then there's Djed Spence - who signed him? Why has he not played? No-one has seemed to be able to do it on the right side. With Porro, will they say it's his job and back him?

"I still think they could do with a natural left-sided centre-back to bring balance to their defence."

Brown did however offer encouragement for Spurs fans on Conte's judgement.

"His signings haven't been too bad, have they?" he said. "[Rodrigo] Bentancur, [Dejan] Kulusevski and Richarlison for the right amount of money."

Diego Llorente to Roma from Leeds on loan

This has been in the works for a couple of days now.

Leeds, who have been busy this window, have allowed centre-back Diego Llorente to leave the club on loan, with a view to a permanent deal with Roma in the summer.

The 29-year-old Spain international has made a total of 59 appearances for the Whites since joining from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2020, scoring four goals. He has been behind the likes of Liam Cooper, Robin Koch and new-signing Max Wober this season.

Also, the Whites signed young Portuguese centre-back Diogo Monteiro this morning.

  15. Marsch 'needs results - and quickly' - Brownpublished at 17:44 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

Leeds may have spent a significant amount of money in the January transfer window, but their former midfielder Michael Brown believes Jesse Marsch's position remains precarious.

The American boss has been backed with a club-record purchase of Georginio Rutter as well as centre-back Max Wober and USA midfielder Weston McKennie this month.

Ahead of a vital run of fixtures, Brown says the pressure is on to get results.

"They need to get results, and quickly," he told BBC Sport. "Probably the worst game they could have next is 'little old' Nottingham Forest, at home. I don't think Leeds fans would accept a loss.

"And then they have got back-to-back games against the team they hate the most, Manchester United. That makes the Forest game even bigger."

Brown was at Elland Road when Leeds lost 3-2 to Fulham in October and he feels the atmosphere at the club now is similar, despite the win over Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup.

"Marsch went to clap the fans and I said on 5 Live that it was like he was saying goodbye," said Brown. "Now, they're almost ready to turn again because the results are not acceptable."

  16. 'Porro will be a huge lift to Spurs'published at 17:43 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2023

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Tottenham Hotspur football journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke from The Athletic speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live on the signing of Pedro Porro from Sporting Lisbon:

"Tottenham will be paying €45million euros for Porro in the summer. He joins on an initial loan. It's the biggest deal that Spurs have ever sanctioned during a January transfer window. It's a player that Antonio Conte desperately wanted in that right wing back position.

"This is a really big deal for Spurs and maybe one that could improve the mood of the team going into the second half of the season.

"Spurs have been crying out for a top level right wing back ever since Conte arrived at the club in 2021 and frankly neither Emerson Royal, Djed Spence or Matt Doherty were quite good enough in that position. I do think Porro will be a huge lift to the team because he is so much better than what they have got in that position."
