  2. 'The referee made an abysmal decision'published at 22:28 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2023

    FT: Cardiff 1-0 Reading

Reading boss Paul Ince told Sky Sports:

"I think a big decision didn't go our way in the first half (Mark McGuinness not being sent off) you've got to be honest and say so.

"Referees will always make mistakes but they are paid to get the big ones right and he bottled it and got it completely wrong.

"He's got to make a decision, but it's a blatant red card and it's a poor decision.

"But that doesn't take away from the fact we were poor. It was our third game in six days and it showed.

"But the red card is poor refereeing. We've had this referee a couple of times and he's been poor.

"It was a great chance for us to nick a point, but we didn't put in enough effort and desire.

"But it comes back to the failure to give a red card, it's a diabolical decision.

"Well done to Cardiff and we move on."

  3. 'I am very proud of the players'published at 22:21 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2023

    FT: Cardiff 1-0 Reading

Cardiff boss Sabri Lamouchi told Sky Sports:

"This win means a lot of things. First win at home for me and after Birmingham, really important for us.

"I am very proud of the players. We never panicked, we were so focused until the last minute.

"Romaine scored a goal, he gets one a year, but this one is so important to us.

"Six points in three days, unbelievable.

"We showed passion and we created a lot, we deserved these three points. I want to enjoy tonight.

"We will watch the results tomorrow and then come back fresh ready for the next one.

"We played with more confidence tonight. We needed just a goal and a victory to give us hope and energy."

I think everyone now believes that Cardiff are going in the right direction, they've won five games at home this season and the five from 1-0, they have won nine all season and six from 1-0. It's remarkable!

  5. 'We are very relieved'published at 22:12 Greenwich Mean Time 17 February 2023

    FT: Cardiff 1-0 Reading

Cardiff match winner Romaine Sawyers told Sky Sports:

"We are very relieved, the gaffer has instilled confidence and belief in us since he's come in, so for that to finally come to fruition is good.

"We had enough chances in the first half to put them away and the gaffer said at half time we had been the dominant team and that we needed to be patient.

"It showed because we got to the 90th minute and got the goal, so that's good.

"Six points this week is massive for us. Us playing tonight and everyone else tomorrow opens up the pressure on them tomorrow, so that's good for us."

I'm more than happy! Second half not so good, they needed to show resilience, players going off injured but Cardiff kept knocking on the door.

You could just feel how much it meant. I wouldn't want to be those teams below Cardiff, they will not be sleeping well tonight.

Cardiff move up to 18th, five points clear of the bottom three, albeit with the sides below them having games in hand.

But a big, big week for Cardiff.

Two huge wins for Sabri Lamouchi.

Things look a lot better here. It's been a good week for the Bluebirds. Cardiff forgot what a victory was here at the Cardiff City Stadium.

    Cardiff get that winner!

Reading fail to properly clear from a freekick and the ball falls on the edge of the box to Romaine Sawyers who scores a lovely goal, keeping his head down and drilling the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Surely that will earn Cardiff a first home win since October.

Cardiff have grafted and grafted like we haven't seen for so long in terms of pressing and pressing, 0-0 would not be a bad result.
