    FT: Darvel 1-5 Falkirk

So there we have it. The dream is over for Darvel, finally losing in the Scottish Cup to an impressive Falkirk team who are 39 places above them in the Scottish football pyramid. Falkirk manager John McGlynn stayed calm amid the excitement and guided his team through to a home tie against Ayr United in the quarter-finals.

Well done to them, and congratulations too to The Vale for a memorable cup run. Seeing the joy on the fans' faces in that famous win over Aberdeen was very special.

    FT: Darvel 1-5 Falkirk

Darvel manager Michael Kennedy tells Sportscene: "The reality is you can't go down to 10 men against a team like Falkirk and we got hurt later on in the game, but I'm immensely proud of everything the players have achieved to this date.

"It's been a remarkable journey and we're grateful for that, but we now just need to focus on league duties."

    FT: Darvel 1-5 Falkirk

Darvel midfielder Ian McShane: "I don't think we turned up tonight. We started slowly and let Falkirk get on top of us. It was two poor goals to lose. It just wasn't to be. Fair play to Falkirk - I thought they were very good tonight. The run has been amazing for everybody. It shows we can compete in higher leagues. That's where we want to be."

  4. Quality football from Morrison and Kennedypublished at 21:51 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2023

    FT: Darvel 1-5 Falkirk

Falkirk midfielder Stephen McGinn: "We wanted to be clinical and I think we caught them with a 1-2. The boys up top – Callumn Morrison and Kai Kennedy- have so much quality and if we can get them the ball as much as possible then…well, I don’t like playing against them in training so I’m not sure the Darvel boys will be looking forward to playing us again."

For a brief time, when Darvel pulled one back to make it 2-1, it looked like we might see a thrilling finale, but credit to Falkirk. They were very professional in their approach to this match and were ruthless in attack, especially when Chris McGowan was sent off by Willie Collum. They will now host Ayr United in the last eight.

A tremendous finish! Look at Liam Henderson going to win that ball again, great play and then it's all about Aidan Nesbitt. You can see him sizing it up - does he have the quality to find that far corner? He sure does. Great finish - Truesdale, no chance.

    James McFadden
Former Scotland forward on BBC Sportscene

A great run and a tremendous header... so much pace on it and just begging to be attacked. A brilliant header, for me it's all in the cross, the pace in the cross...It's the dagger for Darvel but you have to say, Falkirk have been threatening to go for that third goal.
