Should be a good one, both teams will look to press and that surprise element is gone for Darvel so we'll see how they deal with that expectation.

Callumn Morrison makes an early charge from midfield but the Falkirk man is stopped in his tracks when he reaches the Darvel box. Play moves back into the middle of the park and the Bairns win a free-kick.

Falkirk manager John McGlynn: "It's a massive game for both clubs. Both clubs will fancy their chances of getting through. They have good players and are very well coached. They are an attacking team. It should be an entertaining cup tie. I don't feel any pressure. We'll play this game and see what happens. We are playing well."

  6. A Few Leagues Under Are We FCpublished at 19:40 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2023

    Darvel v Falkirk (19:45)

It's worth reminding ourselves which league sixth-tier Darvel usually operate in.

In the Scottish football pyramid, there's the Premiership, the Championship, League One - where Falkirk are in second place - and League Two. In the fifth tier there's the Highland League and Lowland League and beneath that six more leagues, with three coming under the Highland League and three under the Lowland League.

Darvel play in one of those three leagues beneath the Lowland League - the West of Scotland League. Within the West of Scotland League there are five divisions. Darvel are the reigning champions of the West of Scotland's Premier Division - its top level.

They are currently in second place, one point behind Beith Juniors but with a game in hand. All of this head-wrecking information can be summed up thus: Darvel are 39 places below Falkirk in the pyramid.

  7. Can Darvel join Ayr and Kilmarnock in last eight?published at 19:39 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2023

    Darvel v Falkirk (19:45)

Darvel manager Michael Kennedy: "We need to have real belief. It will be a different challenge to the Aberdeen game. We've had loads of new support from across the country, all the pressure is on Falkirk. It's about going out and enjoying the occasion and putting on a performance.

"If we could get three Ayrshire teams in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup it would be unbelievable."

  9. Which was the biggest Cup shock?published at 19:32 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2023

    Darvel v Falkirk (19:45)

Berwick Rangers beating Rangers in 1967, Inverness Caledonian Thistle going ballistic to defeat Celtic 3-1 in 2000...there have undoubtedly been Scottish Cup shocks over the years. But was Darvel's doing of Aberdeen the greatest shock ever in the cup's 149-year history?

Read a piece by my colleagues Clive Lindsay and Phil Goodlad for their take on the upsets.

  11. Falkirk led by the wily McGlynnpublished at 19:27 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2023

    Darvel v Falkirk (19:45)

Are they next to be swept aside by the team from Scottish football's sixth tier, or a serious team with 13 wins and six draws in their 23 games in League One this season?

The Bairns have an experienced, respected manager in John McGlynn. His team are second in the table behind Dunfermline but ahead of Airdrieonians and Alloa Athletic.

  12. League and cup doubles all roundpublished at 19:26 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2023

    Darvel v Falkirk (19:45)

Falkirk beat Wick Academy 6-0 in the third round of the Scottish Cup and followed that with a 2-1 win over Alloa Athletic in the last round. They're on the road again for this evening's tie. Falkirk were knocked out in the fourth round of the Challenge Cup by Dundee, a 3-0 home defeat ending their hopes, and they lost to the same team and by the same score in August in the League Cup second round.

Falkirk fans will no doubt be sick and tired of the media attention afforded to Darvel as they chase Scottish Cup glory and the defence of their West of Scotland Premier League title. The Bairns have their own league and cup double to chase.

  14. Darvel beware: Leonel McMessipublished at 19:23 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2023

    Darvel v Falkirk (19:45)

Now, one player Darvel will have to keep an eye on this evening is the Falkirk maestro Leon McCann. if this is what a defender can do to the opposition, I cannot wait to see what the Falkirk strikers can produce. Admittedly, it looks like a few of the Edinburgh FC defenders are playing on black ice but it's a beauty of a goal nonetheless.

  15. Ayr United lie in waitpublished at 19:20 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2023

    Darvel v Falkirk (19:45)

The draw for the Scottish Cup quarter-finals took place a few hours ago at Hampden and it threw up the prospect of an all-Ayrshire tie.

Darvel or Falkirk will take on Lee Bullen's Scottish Championship contenders Ayr United in the last eight. If Darvel prevail, it will be a tie worthy of a Robert Burns epic. In fact, it could be an Ayrshire schools competition - 10 verses of Scots verse on The Vale against The Honest Men. Of course, Darvel will first have to go some to get past Falkirk this evening.

The full quarter-final draw is as follows:

    Inverness Caledonian Thistle v Kilmarnock

    Heart of Midlothian v Celtic

    Rangers v Raith Rovers

Darvel or Falkirk v Ayr United

Ties to be played on weekend of Saturday 11 March

  19. The children v The Bairnspublished at 19:11 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2023

    Darvel v Falkirk (19:45)

The Breakfast TV piece also visited Darvel Primary School where headteacher Kirsty Doncaster, sporting a jumper in Darvel FC colours, informed viewers that the children will have a day off school tomorrow. However, it won't be as a result of another famous win; rather, it's as mundane as in-service day for the teachers.

"The atmosphere in the town and in the school was just joyous," said Ms Doncaster of the day after the night before last time round.

It would undoubtedly make the Darvel kids happy if their team could do it again, but a different bunch of Bairns - namely, the Falkirk players - will have something to say about that.

  20. Easy as pie for Gallpublished at 19:10 Greenwich Mean Time 13 February 2023

    Darvel v Falkirk (19:45)

Darvel owner and chairman John Gall, who also runs a successful bakery business, told BBC Breakfast viewers this morning: "We had never seen a night like that against Aberdeen and hopefully we can have another night like it against Falkirk. It would be something special for Darvel to be in the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup. That's what dreams are really made of.

"Who would have thought when I took over the club seven years ago that we would get to this stage? Beating Aberdeen and, if we can beat Falkirk, get into the quarter-finals? Could this happen? Well, I've done so well with my Kilmarnock pie, why not do it with Darvel?"
