"A 'crazy' season, a managerial great's triumphant swansong and a rookie boss manoeuvring a Glasgow power shift. The 2011 League Cup final between Rangers and Celtic packed plenty of intrigue."

You can read the memories of former Rangers pair David Weir and Maurice Edu - and Celtic rivals Kris Commons and Mark Wilson - about that win for the Ibrox side here.

  3. Rangers have League Cup edge over Celticpublished at 14:35 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2023

    Rangers v Celtic (15:00)

A goal from now departed centre-half Christopher Jullien was enough to give Celtic victory in the last Old Firm League Cup final - in December 2019 - and the trophy has headed to the east end of Glasgow after six of the last eight finals.

But Rangers still lead 9-6 in League Cup finals where they have faced their city rivals, although the last of those victories came in 2011 with a 2-1 win.

Overall, it is 24 wins apiece - with two drawn - in League Cup meetings between the sides.

  7. Rangers 'underdogs' against 'lucky' Postecoglou?published at 14:24 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2023

    Rangers v Celtic (15:00)

Much has been made in recent weeks of Michael Beale's suggestion that Ange Postecoglou is "lucky" to be able to command such a large transfer budget.

The Celtic boss responded diplomatically by saying that he did feel lucky, but it led to suggestions that he and his Rangers counterpart were uncomfortable sitting beside one another at Friday's pre-match media conference.

BBC Scotland's Tom English has been setting the scene here and suggesting that Rangers are underdogs despite their improvement under Beale.

  8. Celtic's women show way to victorypublished at 14:22 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2023

    Rangers v Celtic (15:00)

The Celtic women's team showed their men how to do it as they recorded a shock 3-0 win over Rangers on Friday.

Not such a shock considering the victory takes Fran Alonso's team to the top of the Scottish Women's Premier League on goal difference - but because of the convincing scoreline against reigning champions who had been looking unbeatable domestically until suffering that first league defeat of the season.

Of course, it also shows Rangers' men that favourites can be beaten.

Meanwhile, Friday's result means Glasgow City can move three points clear of Celtic - and seven ahead of Rangers - when they kick-off at 16:00 away to Aberdeen. You can watch that live on this website - while the capital derby between Heart of Midlothian and Hibernian is already under way, live on BBC Alba and here online.

  10. Rangers 'strong in selection' - Bealepublished at 14:16 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2023

    Rangers v Celtic (15:00)

Rangers manager Michael Beale tells BBC Sportsound: "It's a fantastic day for the fans and the club. It's where we want to be.

"I'm delighted John Lundstram, Malik Tillman, Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield have all come through some injury scares. We're strong in selection and off the bench.

"We have options to help if and when required. When you look at the team we have out, we can't have any complaints afterwards. We now need to perform to our capability.

"The key to us winning today is focusing on Rangers and bringing the best version of ourselves."

Kyogo Furuhashi has not gone more than two games without scoring since October. The ominous news for Rangers is that he has not hit the net in his last two outings, although both were truncated appearances. Will the Celtic striker add to his 22 goals for the season?

  12. Rangers quartet fit to make squadpublished at 14:10 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2023

    Rangers v Celtic (15:00)

Rangers manager Michael Beale had voiced fitness doubts about midfield quartet Malik Tillman, Ryan Jack, John Lundstram and Scott Arfield.

However, on-loan Bayern Munich man Tillman and Ludstram start while Jack and Arfield make the bench.

It means that January signings Nicolas Raskin, formerly of Standard Liege, and Todd Cantwell, who arrived from Norwich City, also have to make do with a place among the substitutes.

  13. Nip and tuck in recent meetingspublished at 14:07 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2023

    Rangers v Celtic (15:00)

Celtic are unbeaten in their last three meetings with Rangers since Giovanni van Bronckhorst steered the Ibrox side to a 2-1 win in last season's Scottish Cup semi-final before going on to lift the trophy.

Ange Postecoglou's side swept aside their city visitors 4-0 in the first league meeting of this season in September, but that was sandwiched between two drawn games at Parkhead and Ibrox.

Current Rangers boss Michael Beale thinks both sides have improved since his first Old Firm derby in charge ended 2-2 in January.

  14. Mooy and Kyogo start for Celticpublished at 14:04 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2023

    Rangers v Celtic (15:00)

In-form Aaron Mooy has recovered from the injury that kept him out of last weekend's 4-0 win over Aberdeen and he replaces Matt O'Riley in Celtic's midfielder.

Kyogo Furuhashi is back up front after being a substitute last week on his return from injury and the Japan striker replaces South Korea's Oh Hyeon-gyu.

Scotland midfielder David Turnbull is fit enough to return to the bench, but back-up goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist misses out.

  16. Route to Hampdenpublished at 13:57 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2023

    Rangers v Celtic (15:00)

Scotland's European football qualifiers have had the advantage of receiving a bye from the group stage of the League Cup in recent seasons.

But Celtic have had the tougher sprint to this season's final compared to their Glasgow rivals.

While Rangers eased to a 3-1 home win over third-tier Queen of the South in the second round, Celtic thumped Premiership rivals Ross County 4-1 in Dingwall.

Ange Postecoglou's side had an even more impressive 4-0 victory away to top-flight Motherwell in the quarter-finals as Giovanni van Bronckhorst's cause as manager was not helped by Rangers' struggle to overcome Championship side Dundee 1-0 at Ibrox.

Kilmarnock gave Celtic more of a game before losing 2-0 in the Hampden semis, but Aberdeen gave Rangers the bigger fright before losing 2-1 after extra time.

    Rangers v Celtic (15:00)

Rangers' Michael Beale and Celtic's Ange Postecoglou were both critical of the Hampden surface for last month's semi-finals.

But both managers expect it to be in a much better condition given the Scottish FA's promise to make substantial improvements.
