M Coombs: Obviously Neves is a starter when he’s available cause he has been the most consistent player all season but Gomes should feel hard done by he has proven he deserves his place last few games.

Jinke: Doucoure not starting, Eze on the wing and no striker is an interesting one...

  2. Big nights returning to Villa Park?published at 18:53 British Summer Time 25 April 2023

You don't have to look too hard at Villa Park to find references of the greatest moment in the club's history - when Peter Withe scored the only goal as Villa beat Bayern Munich 1-0 in Rotterdam to win the European Cup in 1982.

Villa won't be playing in the Champions League next season (they are eight points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, who have two games in hand), but European nights could be back at Villa Park for the first time in 13 years.

With Manchester City and Manchester United, both already guaranteed European football next season, meeting in the FA Cup final, that means a top-seven finish will do it.

Fifth or sixth would take Villa into the Europa League group stages, while seventh would leave them in the Europa Conference League play-offs.

    And it's all in sixth-placed Villa's hands.

After tonight, they still have to play the two teams directly above them (Tottenham and Manchester United), the two teams directly below them (Liverpool and Brighton) as well as a tasty West Midlands derby at Wolves.

It could well be a thrilling end to the season for the Villa faithful.

  3. Leeds' strong recordpublished at 18:50 British Summer Time 25 April 2023

    Leeds v Leicester (20:00 BST)

Simon Gleave, head of sports analysis, Nielsen's Gracenote: "Leeds United have done well at Elland Road against teams currently outside the top-nine, winning five, drawing three and losing just once - in their last match at home against one of these clubs (1-5 v Crystal Palace).

"Leicester City have won three and drawn one of their nine away matches against teams outside the top-nine."

  4. 'I fancy Villa to sneak this one'published at 18:48 British Summer Time 25 April 2023

Aston Villa got away with it a bit at the weekend. I tipped them to beat Brentford but they did not really get going against the Bees and were lucky to get a draw.

Just when it appeared that Fulham's players had signed off for their summer holidays, they have now won back-to-back games - deservedly so each time - and look really committed.

It will be close but Villa are at home and have been in good form under Unai Emery so I still fancy them to sneak this one.

    Prediction: 2-1

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez plays after having to go off during the 1-1 draw at Brentford on Saturday because of a stomach bug, as Unai Emery names the same starting 11.

Aston Villa XI: Martinez, Moreno, Mings, Konsa, Young, Luiz, McGinn, Dendoncker, Ramsey, Buendia, Watkins.

Subs: Olsen, Sinisalo, Carlos, Chambers, Digne, Duran, Revan, O'Reilly, Traore.

Fulham are still without top goalscorer Aleksandar Mitrovic as he serves an eight-game ban for pushing the referee during their FA Cup quarter-final loss against Manchester United.

Daniel James, who was unavailable to play against his parent club Leeds at the weekend, comes in for Bobby De Cordova-Reid in the only change from the Fulham 11 that began the 2-1 win on Saturday.

Fulham XI: Leno, Robinson, Ream, Adarbioyo, Tete, Palhinha, Reed, Willian, Pereira, Wilson, James.

Subs: Rodak, Duffy, Soares, De Cordova-Reid, Cairney, Solomon, Lukic, Diop, Vinicius.

  6. A crucial gamepublished at 18:42 British Summer Time 25 April 2023

    Leeds v Leicester (20:00 BST)

Simon Gleave, head of sports analysis, Nielsen's Gracenote"Leeds United are fourth favourites to go down this season with 41% chance of this happening according to our Euro Club Index.

"Opponents Leicester City have 33% chance of going down. A Leeds win this evening will decrease their chance of relegation to just 16% with Leicester's increasing to 51%.

"A Leicester victory will change their chance of going down to only 13% with Leeds then becoming third favourites for the drop on 68%."

European football's governing body Uefa must change how it hands out Champions League money, says Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish.

Parish says Uefa's coefficient ranking system has helped Europe's elite clubs become "entitled with winning".

He feels that has also contributed to a "two-speed Premier League".

"There's a top half and a bottom half, and that disparity will get bigger and bigger unless we put some rules in to try to control it," Parish added.

  8. The best of the statspublished at 18:36 British Summer Time 25 April 2023

    Leeds v Leicester (20:00 BST)

Leeds have suffered three straight league defeats, after taking 10 points from their first six games under Javi Gracia.

The 23 goals they have conceded in nine Premier League matches since Gracia took charge is the most in the division over that period.

Meanwhile, Leicester ended a nine-match Premier League winless run on Saturday by beating Wolves.

All three of their league victories in 2023 have been in games when they conceded first.

They can equal the club Premier League record of 18 consecutive matches without a clean sheet, set from August to December 1994.

  9. 'I can't see there being loads of goals'published at 18:33 British Summer Time 25 April 2023

Wolves v Crystal Palace (19:30 BST)

Crystal Palace are still unbeaten under Roy Hodgson but they didn't really carry a goal threat in Saturday's draw with Everton.

From Roy's point of view, the job he was brought in for was to make sure Palace stayed up and it is as good as done. They are not mathematically safe but they are nine points clear of the relegation zone with six games to play so I think they have got enough points in the bag already.

Wolves still need another win, or maybe two, but they are hardly on the edge either.

The obvious result to go for here is 1-1, because I can't see there being loads of goals and both sides would probably be delighted with a draw.

    Prediction: 1-1

  10. Team news - Neves starts for Wolvespublished at 18:30 British Summer Time 25 April 2023
    Breaking

Wolves v Crystal Palace (19:30 BST)

Ruben Neves returns to captain Wolves as Julen Lopetegui makes three changes to the side beaten 2-1 at Leicester.

Hugo Bueno and Hwang Hee-Chan also come into the XI, and Mario Lemina is passed fit after sustaining a minor hamstring injury on Saturday.

Toti, Pablo Sarabia and Joao Gomes drop to the bench.

Wolves XI: Sa, Semedo, Dawson, Kilman, Bueno, Nunes, Neves, Lemina, Hwang, Cunha, Costa.

Subs: Bentley, Collins, Neto, Podence, Sarabia, Toti, Moutinho, Joao Gomes, Traore.

Roy Hodgson makes four changes to the Crystal Palace XI following Saturday's goalless draw with Everton.

Chris Richards, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Luka Milivojevic and Will Hughes come in with Joel Ward, Jeffrey Schlupp, Cheick Doucoure and Odsonne Edouard dropping to the bench.

Crystal Palace XI: Johnstone, Richards, Andersen, Guehi, Mitchell, Lokonga, Milivojevic, Hughes, Olise, Eze, J Ayew.

Subs: Guaita, Ward, Tomkins, Mateta, Schlupp, McArthur, Edouard, Doucoure, Riedewald.

Yes, there's two other matches tonight but all eyes will be focused on Elland Road tonight as Leeds host fellow strugglers Leicester in a HUGE clash at the bottom end of the Premier League.

They occupy the two places immediately above the drop zone - Leeds a point clear and the Foxes ahead of Everton on goal difference.

Both are in a rotten run of form: Leeds have lost four of their past five league games, while Leicester's 2-1 win over Wolves on Saturday ended a run of nine winless games.

What an encounter we're in for here tonight.

Javi Gracia feels his team "can do it again" to get back on a good run of form as they try to stay in the Premier League.

"We are living through tough moments at the most important part of the season," said Gracia.

"When I arrived five games ago, we were second bottom. We were able to change that dynamic. We did it and we can do it again.

"They have the desire and belief to stay up. Nobody doubts their commitment, but now is the moment to show it.

"The key is to take our work in training into the matches. We have to change something to compete better."

When these two teams last met on 20 October, Fulham stormed to a 3-0 win at Craven Cottage with the Villa fans booing their team off and showing their unhappiness at boss Steven Gerrard.

The former England midfielder was sacked within an hour of the final whistle with Villa 17th in the Premier League having won only two of 11 games. They were only out of the relegation zone having scored more goals than 18th-placed Wolves and were fearing for their top-flight future.

But since then Villa's transformation has been incredible.

Unai Emery came in at the start of November and Villa have won 12 of their 19 league games since then and are currently on a nine-game unbeaten run.

From being in a relegation battle in October, they are now pushing for Europe, are sixth in the table and will move above Tottenham and into fifth with three points tonight.

Villa have not played in European competition since losing in the Europa League play-off round to Rapid Vienna in August 2010 but a win tonight will raise their fans' hopes of ending the season in Europe when they had feared of it ending in relegation.

We will have to fight till the end - Lopetegui

Wolves have done superbly to move off the bottom of the table and out of the relegation zone but boss Julen Lopetegui insists they are far from safe.

Defeat to Leicester last-time out leaves them six points above the relegation zone and Lopetegui said after that game: "It is not enough. We have to be ready for the next challenge.

"We need to be ready for another big challenge. It is not anything close until you achieve it."

It's a huge game at the bottom of the Premier League table between Leeds and Leicester.

Just one point separates the two sat in 16th and 17th place respectively.

Leeds have won just once in their last five and find themselves sitting only one point above the relegation zone.

Leicester, who are above the drop zone only with an improved goal difference to Everton, have lost 20 Premier League matches this season. That is their joint-highest figure in a 38-game season.

It's another night of Premier League football with all eyes at the bottom of the table.

There's a huge game between Leeds and Leicester, with both teams desperately needing points to pull clear of the drop zone.

Wolves and Palace have some breathing space above the relegation places but can stretch that gap as they go head-to-head.

Aston Villa and Fulham look to continue their impressive seasons in a top half clash.
