Nicholas: If Spurs start as badly tonight as they did against Newcastle we could be seeing the first Interim to the Interim-interim Manager

Newcastle go route one to try to silence the home fans and Callum Wilson does really well to control the ball with his first touch but his second takes the ball away from him.

Newcastle then win a couple of corners in quick succession, both are played short with the latter pounced on by the Everton defence.

Southampton are fighting for their Premier League lives here against Bournemouth but not even that is enough to attract a full house to St. Mary's. It's a filthy night on the south coast and there are plenty of empty seats.

Hope Everton have decent home insurance cover because a goal from their side is going to rip the roof off all four sides of this stadium.

Saints win the first corner of the game, which they take short.

James Ward-Prowse whips the ball in but Bournemouth clear and break through Marcus Tavernier.

He carries the ball to the edge of the home box but is then crowded out, with his shot blocked by a group of backtracking defenders.

It is all Everton at the moment. Newcastle's passing has been loose, mostly forced by the home side's pressing and determination to close their opponents down quickly.

Idrissa Gueye has a go from distance but it is an easy save for Nick Pope.

Alex Iwobi intercepts a poor pass out from the back and quickly gets the ball into the area for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but it's just over the striker's head.

Calvert-Lewin then complains to the referee, arguing that Kieran Trippier leant a bit too much into him.

Bournemouth have never won three away games in a row in the top flight, but that is exactly what they are going for tonight.

Alex McCarthy almost gives them a leg up by slipping as he waits to clear a back pass. Dominic Solanke charges in but the Saints keeper recovers to knock the ball against him and claim a goal kick.

Dominic Solanke tries to get motoring down the left and carries the ball a decent way before going to ground after being met by Jan Bednarek. There's no foul given and no complaints from Solanke.

Spinetingling atmosphere here tonight, the Everton fans are absolutely pumped for it.

A huge banner reading 'Fight For Us' was unfurled in the Gwladys Street End while a firework display also lighting up the sky.

Saints look to make an early impact but after breaking, Adam Armstrong in unable to muscle his way through two Bournemouth defenders.

Soon after, Theo Walcott is set up for a low shot from inside the box but it is comfortably saved by Neto.

Southampton cannot afford to lose this. They've gone seven without a win in the Premier League. Another loss here and that task of getting out of the bottom three starts to look like it might be beyond them.

There were fireworks being set off outside the ground just ahead of kick off.

The fans have certainly played their part in creating a real atmosphere, now it is over to the players.

Two of tonight's three big games are now under way.

For Everton, Southampton and Bournemouth it is all about survival. Newcastle's aims are focused much higher up the table.

They can steal a march on Tottenham and Manchester United before their encounter kicks off in 30 minutes time.

Too many changes to playing styles in recent seasons have played a part in Tottenham's failure to end their trophy drought, according to former Spurs midfielder Gus Poyet.

The Uruguayan was part of Juande Ramos' coaching staff when Tottenham won the League Cup in 2008, which remains their most recent silverware.

Poyet told BBC Radio Scotland's Sacked in the Morning podcast: "I've got many friends who support Tottenham and I know how much it means for them to win a trophy.

"I was there as an assistant for the last trophy in 2008 and I saw the reaction after that trophy. It was tremendous - it was like they were back to life.

"I didn't expect them to take so long to get another. They had very good years, under [Mauricio] Pochettino especially. Then there have been too many changes of style for a team like that. You go from Pochettino to [Jose] Mourinho, then to Nuno [Espirito Santo], then to [Antonio] Conte."

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag believes Tottenham's 6-1 collapse at Newcastle United on Sunday will be "fuel" to use against his side.

"It's obvious they had a really bad defeat," he said.

"They are mad. That can be fuel for bounce backing. But it's about us. An opponent can never be more hungry than us."

Dutchman Ten Hag has been in a similar position this season, having to rouse his team after heavy defeats by Liverpool and Brentford, but played down the significance of this.

"It was not so often that we have to bounce back," he said. "It happens with all the great teams, even Real Madrid [who lost 4-2 to Girona on Tuesday]."
