    • Following their 1-0 win at Vitality Stadium in October, Southampton are looking to complete their first league double over Bournemouth since 2010-11, when the sides competed in League One.
    • Bournemouth are winless in their past nine midweek (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) Premier League games (D2 L7), failing to score a single goal in their five such games so far this season (D1 L4).
    • Philip Billing has scored five away goals for Bournemouth in the Premier League this season, with only Josh King in 2016-17 and Callum Wilson in 2018-19 (both nine) ever netting more on the road in a single campaign for the Cherries.
    • Meanwhile, Dominic Solanke has scored four away league goals this season – it's never happened that two Bournemouth players have scored five or more away goals in a single Premier League campaign.

Financially, the impact of relegation for Saints would be largely mitigated by parachute payments, the sale of some senior players, and through the financial commitment from owners Sports Republic.

But the biggest impact would be on the club’s model of buying top young talent from around the world, and developing it to make big profits in the future.

Players of similar ability to Romeo Lavia or Armel Bella-Kotchap will not want to come to Saints to play in the Championship you would suspect.

The only upside to that is the Saints academy players may get more of a chance to push towards the first team, rather than see the club bring in talented 18 and 19-year-olds from other clubs.

And relegation for Saints would also impact the calibre of manager they can attract in the summer.

While Bournemouth’s defeat by West Ham on Sunday continued the rollercoaster nature of their season, the Cherries are still hanging on tightly to the safety bar in front of them as the campaign rushes headlong towards its conclusion.

Fans will no doubt be keeping a close eye on results below them, such as Tuesday’s draw between Leeds and Leicester – which ensured that the Foxes’ win over Wolves last Saturday is the only win collected by any of the bottom five across the last four rounds of games.

Bournemouth will hope that sequence continues as they now visit Southampton and host Leeds in the space of four days, looking to maintain or increase their cushion above the drop zone.

Chris Sutton has some sympathy with Daniel Levy and said he was recently let down by "traitor" Antonio Conte.

The former Premier League striker told BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club: "Where I do feel sorry for Levy, Conte ended up being a traitor, didn’t he?

"He let Levy down and threw him under the bus, threw the supporters under the bus and threw the players under the bus. That’s what happened.

"Conte is a firestarter and this was always going to go one of two ways - and he’s jumped ship. The fact of the matter is he’s not taking any responsibility.

"Over the 18 months Conte was in charge, the spending with Newcastle was pretty equal. But you never knew which player Conte signed or didn't sign and that always gave him an out. From that point of view, Levy was let down by Conte."

Former England defender Micah Richards disagreed, saying: "Traitor is a bit strong. Conte comes out and wants to go in some direction with the club, so he comes out and says that publicly and you are calling him a traitor?"

    The Athletic

The Athletic's Tottenham reporter Jack Pitt-Brooke, speaking on BBC's Monday Night Club: "I think the rot had already set in by the summer of 2019.

"Even though they got to the Champions League final they were pretty poor in the Premier League that season and were already beginning to show signs of strain because they had failed to upgrade the squad in previous summers."

Everton make three changes to the side that drew 0-0 against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Amadou Onana returns from a groin injury and Abdoulaye Doucoure is back from suspension in a major boost to the midfield. James Garner and Demarai Gray drop out.

Mason Holgate is suspended after his dismissal at Selhurst Park so Ben Godfrey comes in at right-back.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin showed no signs of an injury setback and leads the line once more.

Everton XI: Pickford, Godfrey, Keane, Tarkowski, Mykolenko, Onana, Gueye, Doucoure, Iwobi, McNeil, Calvert-Lewin.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe makes three changes to the side that thumped Tottenham 6-1 on Sunday.

Callum Wilson comes in up front with Miguel Almiron and Matt Targett also getting starts. Alexander Isak, Jacob Murphy and Dan Burn drop out.

Former Toffee Anthony Gordon is on the bench and is likely to get a frosty reception on his return to Goodison Park.

Newcastle XI: Pope, Trippier, Schar, Burn, Targett, S Longstaff, Guimaraes, Willock, Almiron, Joelinton, Wilson.

  9. Newcastle 'can smell Champions League football'published at 18:42 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

Callum Wilson says Newcastle "can smell Champions League football" but is not getting carried away with seven games to go.

A thumping 6-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday established a six-point gap between the Magpies in fourth and Spurs in fifth, while Eddie Howe's side also have a game in hand.

While he accepts the situation looks promising, Wilson told The Footballer's Football Podcast co-host Michail Antonio to "ask next week" whether he was confident of securing a top-four finish.

"It's getting closer," he said. "If I'm honest, I can smell Champions League football now.

"But - and it's a big but - we've got a big week against two tricky opponents. If we get six points, we have one foot in Europe. If we don't get positive results then it could be a different story.

"I'll give you an answer next week."

  10. 'Newcastle will frighten the life out of them'published at 18:39 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

Everton reminded me of Sean Dyche's old Burnley side when I watched them against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin came into the team and they were very direct, with balls into him and then trying to find runners off that.

They were also hoping for Alex Iwobi and Demarai Gray to spark something with some individual brilliance but it didn't really happen, and you could really see why the Toffees are the lowest scorers in the Premier League this season.

This is the last game they need after dropping into the bottom three. Everton don't carry enough of a threat and then you are left asking whether they can keep an in-form Newcastle side out.

I don't think they can, and being at home won't make any difference because the Magpies will frighten the life out of them.

    Prediction: 0-2

It has been a pretty fractured relationship between Everton and their fans this season, but they are looking to galvanise as one for the remainder of this campaign as they aim to remain in the top-flight.

They host Newcastle at Goodison Park tonight and the team bus received an incredible ovation as it made its way into the ground.

  13. Plenty to play forpublished at 18:30 British Summer Time 27 April 2023

Is that the title battle over, then?

Manchester City took a big step towards winning the Premier League with a thumping 4-1 victory against rivals Arsenal yesterday.

Of course there may be more twists and turns to come, but claiming a first top-flight title in two decades is no longer in the Gunners' hands.

Tonight our focus switches to the battle for the top four and to stay in the Premier League, with plenty still to play for.
