Djamel Makhlouf: Reckon we will see a 24 team premier league before an 18 team one, there's enough talent and money in the championship that you swap out most of the bottom half for top 6 championship teams and still have a high quality league.... what fan wants less games.. not me.

Newcastle have made a change many will have expected. Callum Wilson is on for Anthony Gordon. Two up top for them.

Is there a side for which this isn't a big 45 minutes in their season?

The Fulham - Man City game had a bit more added time, but the other three games in the top-flight are getting back under way.

It's only half time, but very impressed with Diop and Tosin, they have really neutralised Haaland's threat.

City will bring on Foden and Silva with 25/30 mins to go, that's the luxury they have with their squad. Arsenal just can't compete with their strength in depth City have.

Newcastle miss Sean Longstaff. He’s such an underrated player. I’d like to see Wilson and Isak play together in the 2nd half. Southampton have dealt with us well but keep plugging away. The goals will come.

On this evidence, you can’t write Southampton off in the relegation battle just yet.

They’ve kept their shape well and stopped Newcastle’s usual fluency.

It really feels as though Newcastle just expected to win today. Southampton have executed their plan with confidence.

Re David (14:41). I support Manchester United. Seeing Brighton, Brentford, Fulham, Villa, Newcastle all up there and arsenal challenging for the title is brilliant. Wouldn't happen with less teams. Southampton (who are bottom) drawing 3-3 with arsenal and now beating Newcastle. Raising standards?!?! Get a grip!!!

  11. 'Far from over'published at 14:54 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    HT: Fulham 1-2 Man City

    Glenn Murray
Former Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

City started the game with a real bang and I thought they'd run away with it but Fulham found a foot hold.

City have the lead but this is far from over as it stands.

  12. 'Man Utd have been on top'published at 14:53 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

HT: Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

    Curtis Davies
Derby defender on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Manchester United have been on top for most of the game. Villa had a four minute spell where they had a few chances and then reverted back to their low block so it's only fair that Manchester United are ahead.

I think Villa can be buoyed by the fact United conceded two goals in midweek in the second half. They have conceded a lot from set pieces and crosses.

It might be a set piece to get them back into the game, Mings scored the other day with a a header. It will be interesting if they can put some more balls into the box and make United defend properly.

    Fulham 1-2 Man City

City lead at the break thanks to a penalty from Erling Haaland and a superb finish by Julian Alvarez.

As it stands, they return to the top of the Premier League for the first time since 17 February.

Well, this wasn't in the script!

Stuart Armstrong's goal separates the teams. Newcastle have seen a lot of the ball and have fashioned a couple of decent chances, but they're struggling.

If Saints can see this out, they're suddenly back from the dead!

    Bournemouth 2-1 Leeds

Leeds have the last effort of the half. A free-kick into the middle drops for Luke Ayling, but he lashes his shot high and wide.

The visitors started OK, but their soft underbelly was exposed again as Jefferson Lerma struck twice in four minutes.

Patrick Bamford has given the Whites hope but they need a big second half.

As a Leeds fan I just want us to go down now. This will trigger a rebuild and hopefully get rid of Orta and this disastrous manager of ours.
