To David 14:41 - nah, I'd rather have less European games, considering they don't concern most fans

Re David, Brighton. Leicester were Premier League champions a few years ago and now after a couple of bad seasons they should be relegated to "raise" standards in the division? Support one of the elite, do you?

  3. Saints make breakaway paypublished at 14:47 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Newcastle 0-1 Southampton

    Harry De Cosemo
BBC Sport at St James’ Park

Swift counter-attack from Southampton sees Stuart Armstrong put them ahead.

Newcastle have been vulnerable to that all afternoon and they’ve finally been punished.

A new challenge to rise to here, they need to assert themselves. They’ve dominated the ball but not really threatened Alex McCarthy in the Saints goal.

The home fans are rallying but things need to step up a notch if Newcastle are to turn this around.

    Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

Excellent work by Tyrell Malacia to stop a dangerous run by Ashley Young as Villa break down the right after a United attack fell down.

Nicholas Walker: Pep has created the English Barcelona with Man City. Terrifying as a team with terrifying individuals. Fantastic to watch.

Noel Fitzpatrick: Not a popular opinion I'm sure, but I think Alvarez is a more complete, more skilful centre forward than Haaland.

Ben Rogers: No De Bruyne? No problem. Alvarez has scored a worldie there.

  6. Soft goal for Villa to concedepublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Aston Villa failed to track Marcus Rashford properly at the start of that move, then Emiliano Martinez pushed the shot straight into Fernandes' run.

The Manchester United skipper went past Alex Moreno to finish from an acute angle.

I think Unai Emery will be disappointed at the combination of mistakes that mean his side are now behind.

    Newcastle 0-1 Southampton

That Saints goal will have set off a few alarm bells at the bottom.

It's a shot in the arm too for some of those sides who maybe thought the race for the top four was dead and buried.

Is Alvarez the buy of the season at £14 million? He is a team player with work ethic and an eye fo a goal.

Work to do for Unai Emery. His side have carried a threat but United are creating so many chances.

Alex Moreno tries a run down the left but the pass to him is overcooked and he won't reach it.

  10. 'It has been coming'published at 14:43 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villa

    Curtis Davies
Derby defender on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Rashford is clear in acres of space over the top. He has to take the shot on early.

Martinez parries it quite wide but Fernandes gets there just ahead of Moreno and it deflects off Moreno and over Martinez.

It has been coming. Other than the last few minutes where Villa had a few chances, Man United have been on top and they've been dominating.

  11. CLOSE!published at 14:42 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Fulham 1-2 Man City

Riyad Mahrez almost picks out Julian Alvarez in the middle but it's well defended.

City retain possession though and Ilkay Gundogan forces a smart save from Bernd Leno from close range.

    Stuart Armstrong

    From nowhere!

Newcastle have been pushing to take the lead but they hit with a suckerpunch to concede.

Saints break and Carlos Alcaraz sends the ball wide to Kamaldeen Sulemana. His low ball into the middle is bundled in by Stuart Armstrong.

There is life in Southampton still!

    Fulham 1-2 Man City

    Glenn Murray
Former Brighton striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Whenever a City midfielder gets the ball in their own half, Haaland sprints and runs forward and that is giving so much space for Alavarez when the defenders are dragged away.

Truth is, you could relegate this bottom 5 and move to an 18-team PL. Would lift standards and provide a much-needed reduction in games played.

Some say that he can be industrious but this is far from that. It's a great finish.

He whips it across the goal, beyond Leno and into the top corner. That's one of the best goals you will see all weekend.

    It's an absolutely wonderful finish.

Apparently, it is a hip problem that forced Leeds skipper Liam Cooper out of this game. It came from an awkward landing after a clearing header.

  19. goal

GOAL - Man Utd 1-0 Aston Villapublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 30 April 2023

    Bruno Fernandes (39 mins)

Villa had just started to build some pressure when United get the opener.

It's another ball through to Marcus Rashford who races away and forces a save from Emiliano Martinez.

His parry goes straight to Bruno Fernandes, who still has a lot to do from a tight angle but he expertly curls it past the two players on the goalline.

There's a VAR check though. Was Rashford offside?
