  1. Warnock's Terriers looking for 28-year firstpublished at 14:48 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2023

    Huddersfield v Coventry (15:00 GMT)

Huddersfield are back at the John Smith's Stadium and looking for successive home wins under Neil Warnock for the first time in 28 years.

It's one of those lovely stats you get when you have a managerial stalwart like Warnock deciding to come out of his latest attempt of retirement to rejoin one of his many former clubs.

The relegation threatened Terriers are not going to have it easy, with an inform Coventry City side looking to extend their five-match unbeaten run.

  2. Bottom side Wigan host free-falling Birminghampublished at 14:46 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2023

    Wigan v Birmingham (15:00 GMT)

Bottom side Wigan Athletic host a badly stuttering Birmingham City in a huge relegation game.

Wigan have managed just two league wins in their past 20 league games, and both were at home against the two sides (Blackpool and Huddersfield) also occupying the Championship relegation zone with them.

They have, however, lost just one of their past five games.

Blues, whose preparation for today's game was interrupted by a fire at their Wast Hills training ground in the early hours of Friday, are on a four-match losing run.

Their miserable recent run of nine defeats in 11 Championship games has seen them tumble to 19th in the table and to within seven points of the drop zone.

  3. Neil returns with a case of what might have beenpublished at 14:44 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2023

    Sunderland v Stoke (15:00 GMT)

    Alex NeilImage source, Getty Images

Nothing should ever surprise you in football, but the decision of Alex Neil to swap Sunderland for Stoke last August did raise eyebrows.

Neil had only been manager at the Stadium of Light since February and had finally lead the Black Cats out of their unwanted four-year stay in League One.

But the Scot was unhappy at the transfer policy on Wearside and swapped that job for the vacancy in the Potteries.

When Neil changed jobs, Sunderland were 12th and Stoke were 17th. Today Stoke are still 17th but Sunderland have climbed to ninth.

Neil's replacement, Tony Mowbray, has bought into the club's desire to bring in young players and he has got them playing excellent football, within a few points of the play-offs and with the crowd - averaging over 38,000 - behind him and the team.

As for Stoke, they are nine points clear of the bottom three and should be safe from relegation, but there has been little to quicken the pulse for their fans.

Neil would only be human if, in a quiet moment, he was to wonder if he made the right call.

  4. Luton and Swansea search for vital winspublished at 14:43 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2023

    Luton v Swansea (15:00 GMT)

Two sides that have found it difficult to win in recent weeks meet at Kenilworth Road.

Sixth-placed Luton, who have notched up just one win in five Championship games, welcome a Swansea side who have managed one win in seven.

The Swans, who pulled off a stunning 3-3 draw at Luton on their last trip there, have collected just five points from the 21 up for grabs during that run.

With 10 places and 11 points separating the two sides, Luton will be desperate for the win to ensure they remain in the play-off spots.

  5. Tough clash to callpublished at 14:40 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2023

    Millwall v Norwich (15:00 GMT)

    Tom BradshawImage source, Rex Features

Only two points and two places separate the Lions and the Canaries ahead of today's crunch clash at The Den.

Both come into the game in good shape, unbeaten in four matches, and Millwall will be looking to continue their fine home form which has seen them go 11 games without losing in front of their own fans.

Gary Rowett's men also have in-form striker Tom Bradshaw to call on - the Wales forward has five goals in his last four games.

Norwich are coming into form at the right time too and have enjoyed five wins in their eight league matches under David Wagner - one more than they had won in their previous 17 Championship games.

That run includes three victories in their last four and another three points today would see them leapfrog their opponents into the play-off spots.

  6. Blackpool host leaders Burnley in derbypublished at 14:38 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2023

    Blackpool v Burnley (15:00 GMT)

Championship leaders Burnley travel to Bloomfield Road for the first time in nine years for this eagerly-anticipated Lancashire derby against Blackpool.

These two sides played out an enthralling and heated 3-3 draw, which included a red card apiece, earlier this season.

Burnley head to the seaside looking to keep up their seemingly inevitable march to automatic promotion, having beaten Huddersfield 4-0 last time out in the league for their 12th victory in 14 Championship games.

Second-from-bottom Blackpool have lost their previous two games, but Burnley are a side that Tangerines boss Mick McCarthy has a remarkable record against.

The 64-year-old has overseen 12 league wins against them during his career - he’s only registered more wins against Derby (14) and Charlton (13).

  7. Troubled Reading look to storm fortress Riversidepublished at 14:36 Greenwich Mean Time 4 March 2023

    Middlesbrough v Reading (15:00 GMT)

Jeff Hendrick and Tom InceImage source, Getty Images

News this week that Reading may face a points deduction from the EFL for breaching financial rules hangs perilously over the Berkshire club.

Last season, the Royals were deducted six points and ended up 21st. Only the massive 21-point penalty handed to Derby County saved them from relegation.

As things stand, Reading are 15th on 44 points and relatively comfortable. But if they were to lose six points, they would only be seven clear of the bottom three.

Manager Paul Ince has already been operating under a transfer embargo so he will not want the further headache of losing six points.

This afternoon, Reading head to Middlesbrough. They have not won on the road since 12 November. Boro have won their last six at home.

Against those odds, somehow Ince's men have to find a way to gather as many points as possible to guard against any future deduction.

It's been a proper game of football. Rovers were outstanding all game against a tough Sheffield United team, but they have had too much for them.

They have defended well when they needed to and scored a great goal.

They've won four on the trot in the Championship now and it puts them in a great position to keep pushing for automatic promotion.
