That's as far as we go here tonight.

Iliman Ndiaye's winner for Sheffield United at Reading moved them seven points clear of third-placed Middlesbrough in the race for the Premier League.

Struggling Wigan and Huddersfield could not make the most of their games in hand on the teams above them and are left facing a real uphill battle to stay in the second tier.

In League One, Plymouth fought back from a goal down to beat play-off chasing Derby and go level on points with leaders Sheffield Wednesday, albeit having played two more games.

Bradford City missed the chance to put pressure on the top three in League Two as they were held 0-0 at Walsall.

We'll be back on Friday with live text coverage of Stoke v Blackburn in the Championship.

    Thanks for your company tonight.

    Cheers!

Wigan are now bottom of the table after losing at West Bromwich Albion.

The Latics and Huddersfield, who drew at home to Bristol City, are six points from safety - as are Blackpool, who were not in action tonight.

There will be nervous looks over shoulders from sides above that trio in the table, but it will take a big effort from one of those bottom three in their final 11 matches to haul themselves out of trouble.

  14. Getting nervy at The Hawthornspublished at 21:41 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2023

West Bromwich Albion 1-0 Wigan Athletic

    Ged Scott
    BBC Sport at The Hawthorns

Albion are clearly the better side here, having scored and also hit the woodwork three times.

But it's still only 1-0. And, at 1-0, any side, even the team second bottom of the division, still have a chance.

Latics sub Josh Magennis should have done better with his close-range header just now, when he ballooned the ball over - and then fellow sub Thelo Aasgaard finally forced a first save from young home keeper Josh Griffiths and that ought to act as a warning to the Baggies.

Albion so need six points from these two successive home games against the bottom two - Huddersfield are here on Saturday. And, although the fact it has gone rather quiet here may be down to the sub-zero temperature and the lower than average away following, it may also be down to a few home nerves.

    Huddersfield 0-0 Bristol City

Huddersfield move off the foot of the table on goal difference but they're six points adrift of safety and their game in hand over Cardiff is gone.

This game just never really got going in all honesty.

The point ends Huddersfield's run of successive 4-0 defeats but draws are of very little use to them now.

Bristol City look destined to end in midtable. That's 11 wins, 12 draws and 12 defeats now for them this campaign.

  20. Argyle complete comebackpublished at 21:30 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2023

    Plymouth Argyle 2-1 Derby County

    Brent Pilnick
    BBC Sport at Home Park

The tables have turned here at Home Park and it's probably what the hosts deserve, although the penalty did look a bit soft as Harvey White appeared to make light contact - if any - on Finn Azaz in the area.

But Home Park is very much rocking now.
