  1. League One updatepublished at 19:58 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2023

Chris Forino-Joseph has scored the opening goal of the night in League One to put Wycombe ahead at home to Fleetwood.

It's an important game for Wycombe to try to make up ground on the play-off places.

Ipswich, in third, also trying to make up ground on the top two. No goals in the early stages as they host Accrington, who are just two points outside the bottom four.

The Tractor Boys are chasing Plymouth, who start the night second ahead of their home game with fifth-placed Derby that kicks off at 20:00 GMT.

That Sheffield United have lost three of their past four league games and still go into tonight's game with a four-point buffer over third-placed Middlesbrough says a lot about how well they started the season.

A Blades victory this evening would re-establish a seven-point gap to the chasers with just 11 games to go.

Hosts Reading, who were thumped 5-0 by Middlesbrough on Saturday, have worries both on and off the field.

The Royals could be hit with a points deduction by the EFL if they are found to have breached a business plan set out for them in 2021.

As it stands, a six-point deduction would leave Paul Ince's men just six points above the bottom three, so every point could prove to be precious now.

They make four changes from the Boro thumping, including bringing back goalkeeper Joe Lumley who could not play against his parent club.

Bristol City supporter Jerry Tocknell reaches an incredible milestone today - attending his 1,000th consecutive away game!

That really is some effort, isn't it? He was presented with a special shirt, external by manager Nigel Pearson before kick-off at Huddersfield.

  5. Corberan and the curse of the contractpublished at 19:48 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2023

West Brom v Wigan (20:00 GMT)

West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos CorberanImage source, PA Media

West Brom were going like a train under Carlos Corberan and climbed as high as fifth at the start of February.

That form saw the Spaniard linked with the managerial job at his former side Leeds and prompted the Baggies to give him an extended contract.

However, since then the Black Country side have lost three of five to slip down to 11th and start tonight seven points off the play-off pack.

Visitors Wigan are in desperate need of the points for very different reasons.

Shaun Maloney's men are second bottom and although they've lost just one of their past five, they've also only won one and draws simply won't be enough to drag them to survival.

So another one bites the dust at Vicarage Road as Watford say goodbye to Slaven Bilic after less than six months in charge.

The Croatian won 10 of his 26 games as Watford boss.

Former Sheffield United and Middlesbrough manager Chris Wilder has been appointed until the end of the season and will look to lead the team back into the top six.

Are the sleeping giants of League Two waking up?

Bradford City have won five of their past six games to climb up to fifth and could go third with a win at out-of-sorts Walsall this evening.

Elsewhere, struggling Crawley, who have lost their past five, head to in-form Sutton and Gillingham face a tough trip to play-off hopefuls Stockport.

Here's a rundown of all the action in League Two tonight:

    • Doncaster Rovers v Harrogate Town
    • Grimsby Town v Newport County
    • Stockport County v Gillingham
    • Sutton United v Crawley Town
    • Walsall v Bradford City
  9. League One fixturespublished at 19:37 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2023

All games start at 19:45 GMT unless stated

There's little doubt about where the main game in the third tier is this evening, as second-placed Plymouth host play-off chasing Derby.

Victory for Argyle would lift them level on points with league leaders Sheffield Wednesday, albeit having played two games more.

Third-placed Ipswich will hope for a favour from the Rams and a positive result against struggling Accrington, while sixth-placed Barnsley host in-form Portsmouth.

At the wrong end of the table, 23rd hosts 21st as Cambridge welcome Morecambe.

Here's a rundown of all the games in League One this evening:

    • Barnsley v Portsmouth
    • Cambridge United v Morecambe
    • Cheltenham Town v Lincoln City
    • Ipswich Town v Accrington Stanley
    • Peterborough United v Shrewsbury Town
    • Wycombe Wanderers v Fleetwood Town
    • Plymouth Argyle v Derby County (20:00 GMT)

Bottom of the Championship tableImage source, .

Huddersfield and Wigan start their games seven and six points from safety respectively.

There's still approximately a quarter of the season still to be played, but the bottom three are starting to be cut adrift and they need to start accumulating points quickly if they are to give themselves a chance of avoiding the drop.

  11. A big night for the Bladespublished at 19:31 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2023

Top of the Championship tableImage source, .

Sheffield United are the only team in the Championship's top 10 in action on Tuesday.

Leaders Burnley are far away in the distance, so much of their concerns are likely to be on the teams immediately below them in the race for automatic promotion.

A win at Reading will put them seven points clear of Middlesbrough with 11 games remaining.

West Bromwich Albion start 11th and will move within four points of the play-off places if they beat Wigan.

    Watford appoint Wilder

    Geoff Doyle
    BBC Three Counties Radio sport

This can come as no surprise to anyone any more. Watford owner Gino Pozzo doesn't hang around if he feels a head coach isn't getting the best out of his players.

And the form since the World Cup has been very, very ordinary.

Yet it's still a bit harsh on Slaven Bilic. A couple of months ago he had 15 players injured, including star man Joao Pedro, and six midfielders.

They have gradually returned to the side but Watford have slipped down the table waiting for them to return.

Last Saturday's match against Preston felt like there could be no more excuses and the goalless draw wasn't good enough for Bilic.

This is what Watford do. I'm sure Chris Wilder knows what he's letting himself in for...

Huddersfield v Bristol City (19:45 GMT)

    Neil WarnockImage source, PA Media

The games are running out for Huddersfield if they're to avoid relegation to League One.

Veteran boss Neil Warnock steered them to a 2-1 win over Birmingham in his first game in charge after coming out of retirement, but subsequent 4-0 defeats at Burnley and at home to Coventry have left them rock bottom.

A victory tonight would lift them to within four points of safety, while a defeat would leave them with an awful lot to do and not many games in which to do it.

The Terriers have made a change in goal, Tomas Vaclik is in and Nicholas Bilokapic is out.

Visitors Bristol City's long unbeaten league run came to an end with a disappointing 2-0 defeat at rivals Cardiff on Saturday and although their play-off hopes look fanciful at best, three points in West Yorkshire would lift them into the top half.

The Robins make three changes from that Bluebirds reverse, ex-Town striker Nahki Wells returns to the side.

  14. Hornets appoint Wilder after Bilic sackedpublished at 19:19 Greenwich Mean Time 7 March 2023

Today's big news from the second tier came at Vicarage Road as Watford appointed Chris Wilder as their new head coach, having sacked Slaven Bilic following a run of one win in eight Championship games.

Former West Ham and West Brom boss Bilic, 54, was dismissed after five months in the role, having replaced Rob Edwards in September.

Wilder departed Middlesbrough after 11 months in charge in October.

The Hornets, relegated from the Premier League last season, have dropped to ninth in the table and are four points off the play-offs.

Wilder is the club's ninth full-time manager since they sacked Javi Gracia in September 2019.

We've reached the business end of the season now and the six teams in action in the Championship tonight will all be looking to make the most of their respective games in hand.

The bottom two clubs, Huddersfield and Wigan, are both in desperate need of wins to breathe new life into their flagging survival bids, while second-placed Sheffield United will be looking to go seven points clear of third-placed Middlesbrough.

Elsewhere, we've got seven games for you from League One and five from League Two.

Let's get straight to it with some news that broke in the second tier a couple of hours ago...
