Coach Corinne Diacre says she has faced a "violent and dishonest" smear campaign designed to unsettle France before this summer's Women's World Cup.

Three players - including decorated captain Wendie Renard - have recently announced they will not play for the national team again.

The World Cup, co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia, starts on 20 July.

"I'm determined to carry out my mission and, above all, to do France proud at the next World Cup," said Diacre.

France are in Group F alongside Jamaica, Brazil and Panama and start their campaign on 23 July.

On International Women’s Day, Chelsea Foundation today announced a new initiative which will offer 5,000 young girls their first experience of football.

The commitment was unveiled at today’s Chelsea Foundation’s Nothing Stops Us event at Kingsmeadow where 400 local school girls participated in fun football activities and workshops at the stadium.

The Nothing Stops Us female-only event took place before this evening’s Women’s Super League fixture between Chelsea and Brighton with the school students receiving free tickets for the match.

The event consisted of football drills and challenges along with educational and health and wellbeing sessions including female empowerment and workshops led by partners, Kingston Mind and Nike who also gifted students sports bras.

The day also saw Chelsea FC staff take time out of their day to volunteer and take part in the event, and culminated in a walking football match between Chelsea and Brighton walking football teams.

The initiative, which will be made available to 5,000 young girls each year, will be delivered by Chelsea Foundation coaches working directly in local primary schools initially in South West London and Surrey.

    Claire Rafferty

Could Chelsea have been a little more clinical? Yes. But they have been energetic, getting to first balls and have been winning their one-on-one battles. I feel a bit for Brighton.
