  1. 'We got our just reward'published at 15:09 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2023

    Sheff Utd 3-2 Blackburn

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom: "I just thought it was a good game. At half-time I said to the lads I was really pleased with how we were playing but just disappointed to be level at 1-1.

"I know we have VAR but I was really disappointed with the decision for the penalty. What is he supposed to do with his arms? It was a tough one to take.

"We gave a couple of chances away and in the second half Blackburn had some good opportunities on the break, but for us to come back twice shows a lot about the lads.

"I felt we got our just reward and the winning goal was fantastic."

  2. 'Football can be cruel'published at 15:08 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2023

Blackburn manager Jon Dahl Tomasson, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We are bitterly disappointed to lose the game. We played an excellent game and our performance deserved a better result.

"The first 80 minutes we were excellent and should probably have scored the third goal to kill off the game.

"We all know how tough and cruel football can be. But on the other hand those lads have done an excellent job in the different cup campaigns.

"We are of course disappointed not to get to Wembley. We had backing from almost 6,000 fans."

On the head injury suffered by Blackburn's Tyler Morton in the run up to Sheffield United's third goal: "Of course the third goal we conceded is a strange story isn’t it? Football can be cruel. There is a head injury at the side and the referee played on. Imagine if it was really dangerous and he hasn’t blown the whistle? What would happen then?"

Sheffield United match-winner Tommy Doyle speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We worked really hard for that. We made it a bit difficult for ourselves at times but to be going to Wembley is a special feeling."

On his winning goal: "I just saw it sit up lovely and gave it a good wallop and thankfully it went into the top corner, which is honestly one of the best feelings I have had. When the fans go mental like that it is an unbelievable feeling."

One of best goals scored?: "Yeah, it is up there, definitely, with the special meaning attached to it. It means a lot."

On following in the footsteps of grandparents Mike Doyle and Glyn Pardoe, who both won the FA Cup playing for Manchester City: “I said the other day in an interview that I want to create my own history. We are in the process of doing that at the moment, which is a great feeling so hopefully we can go and win at Wembley."

On taking the fans back to Wembley: "They deserved it today. They were amazing, they helped us so much during the bad times we had in the game. When you are behind and have got them backing you it is hard not to go and produce and we did that."
