  3. CLOSE!published at 8 mins

    Sheff Utd 0-0 Blackburn

    What a chance!

It really should be 1-0 to the hosts as John Egan plays a brilliant ball to put James McAtee through. The flag stays down and he does look onside as gets gets into the box but he telegraphs his shot too clearly and Aynsley Pears saves.

    Sheff Utd 0-0 Blackburn

The flag is up for an offside for Sheffield United, but at least the Blades had the ball at the right end of the pitch as far as they are concerned having had to do a lot of defending early doors.

    Sheff Utd 0-0 Blackburn

This has been a really good start by Blackburn. They are just not letting Sheffield United settle and Sam Gallagher is away down the right. He crosses but it takes a deflection that takes the ball closer to goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.

    Sheff Utd 0-0 Blackburn

Nice move early doors by Blackburn as they get into Sheffield United's faces early. The ball falls to Ben Brereton on the edge of the area and you are expecting his shot to hit the back of the net but he misses his kick and the Blades get away with that one.

This is Sheffield United's third FA Cup quarter-final in four years but they are looking to reach the semi-finals for first time since doing so as a League One team in 2013-14, where they lost 5-2 to Hull City.

"This week could be one of the biggest in the season, potentially one of the biggest for some of the players in their careers and maybe one of the biggest in the club's history," Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"There's not many times you get the opportunity to go to Wembley as a player or as a fan. It would be a reward for the fans, for their support. We know what is at stake.

"The FA Cup is huge and this season seems to have been a good one and we've been involved in a couple of different occasions and stories so it would be nice to have another one."

He added: "They'll approach the game the same way as us, what have they got to lose?"

Blackburn boss Jon Dahl Tomasson has said he considers the FA Cup to be the biggest cup competition in the world and his players can dream of Wembley.

Rovers travel to Sheffield United in their quarter-final on Sunday.

Blackburn are looking to reach the semi-finals of the competition for the first time in 16 years.

"It's an opportunity for every player to be part of the new history of the club. It's something we need to chase," he told BBC Radio Lancashire., external

"There will be only one team winning the FA Cup at the end but we can dream of Wembley. Just saying the word Wembley says it all about the passion and this great competition. I'm hopeful of going there.

"The FA Cup is the biggest cup in the world in my opinion. We haven't been this far for a while so it has been an excellent run and we're enjoying it.

"We beat them two weeks ago but we know we can lose this game because they are a team who need to get promoted when you look at their budget and their Premier League players."

A huge opportunity presents itself for two Championship promotion chasers in this high noon showdown.

The Blades and Blackburn are second and fifth in the league and only separated by nine points, but by mid-afternoon one of them will be in the semi-finals the FA Cup - ensuring a team from the second tier will mix it with the Premier League elite in the last four.

This is only the fifth FA Cup quarter-final since the turn of the millennium between two sides from the second tier and first since 2012-13, when Millwall knocked out Blackburn after a replay.

Sheffield United triumphed on penalties in a replay in the last FA Cup game between the two sides, which was the 1992-93 quarter-final.

Interestingly, all nine of the Blades' FA Cup goals this season have been scored by different players, with only Grimsby Town having more different scorers with 10.

Both sides are in decent form coming into the game and with the prize on offer, who will be able to seize the moment?

I read a really good interview with Blackburn boss Jon Dahl Tomasson this week, where he was talking about getting his players to do their own analysis in front of the team after games.

He has done an unbelievable job at at Ewood Park, and they are looking good for a place in the Championship play-offs.

Rovers beat Sheffield United at the start of March, just after they went to Leicester and knocked them out of the FA Cup.

The Blades are chasing automatic promotion under Paul Heckingbottom and are clearly a very good team too.

They won at Sunderland on Wednesday and also knocked a Premier League team, Tottenham, out in the last round - but they have been a little inconsistent recently.

It is going to be close, but I am going to back my old club to edge it - and finally make it to the new Wembley for the first time.

    Sutton's prediction:1-2

Chris Ostler's prediction: Sheffield United played well against us and being at home again will help them here. 2-1
