FT: Republic of Ireland 0-1 France

Republic of Ireland captain Seamus Coleman, speaking to RTE: "I thought we performed well. It was really disappointing. I thought the crowd were magnificent. France, to be fair, were holding on at the end but you get no points for that. We played well, which is a positive, and there are things to be happy about heading into the summer games."

The Netherlands are going to look at this and think, you know what, we're not guaranteed second place in this group at all. There's still massive games ahead but this is the way to start the group, against the best team in it and you put up a performance like that and you can build on it.

FT: Republic of Ireland 0-1 France

Chiedozie Ogbene, unsurprisingly named man of the match, speaking to RTE: "The atmosphere says it all. There are positives to take and we had enough chances to take a point, at least. I'm devastated for the guys, we gave everything. I said it before, we trained to win this game and were unfortunate not to get a result. We should be very proud, we matched one of the best teams in the world and the future is bright."

We can hold our heads high. We've got to go into this group now, after putting in a performance like that against, arguably, the best team in world football, we can go and get results and raise our game to a level that can give us a chance of actually qualifying.

I was off my feet there, I thought that was in! Maignan comes up with an unbelievable save late on in the game. What a wonderful ball in and a great header and that is a world class save. Ireland are so unlucky not to get an equaliser.
