Have you been wondering, 'I wonder if Wales still do those silly line-ups where they deliberately stand in strange positions?'

    Well wonder no more.

    Of course they are.

We started on the front foot, we have been competitive and had good spells of possession.

    A really positive first start.

Former Wales defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Portugal have had the better chances but I have been really impressed with Wales particularly out of possession, the way they have pressed high, looked to react really quickly when they've lost the ball, won the ball back on a number of occasions in high areas.

The only disappointment will be not creating any chances off of the back of that

I think Gemma Grainger will be fairly pleased with that first half shown.

  4. HALF-TIME - Portugal 0-0 Walespublished at 18:22 British Summer Time 11 April 2023

    That's half-time.

Wales were the better side until about the midway point, but Portugal have started to dominate since and struck the crossbar.

However, against a higher-ranked nation, away from home, this has been very good from Wales so far.

Grab a brew or a bite or both and we will reconvene.

I would love to see Rachel Rowe keeping the width a little bit more, with Portugal playing the shape that they are there is so much space out wide.

This has been a far better test than Thursday evening, Portugal have caused Wales problems, Wales are trying to find the solutions.

It is just about creating opportunities, can you create clear opportunities against a better opposition such as Portugal?

Patricia Morais grabs the ball at the third or fourth attempt as Hannah Cain almost goes clear.

Wales will be happy with this performance so far. The positives have outweighed any negatives.

Hannah Cain is playing up top, that centre forward role can be really isolated and Ceri Holland is really good at getting up in support quickly, she has good fitness levels.

Going forward, we have to make sure the fourth official plays a role in these situations.

Sophie Ingle was put under pressure as that ball was played in to her, she just felt a little nudge in the back and to try to balance she has put her arm up.

A lot of players won't want the ball under pressure like that, Sophie Ingle you are happy to give her the ball under pressure she will retain it.

Gemma Grainger will be pleased with what she has seen and the fact that they are able to compete at this level.

I was expecting more from Portugal to be honest but it may show how far Wales have come.

Twice now Rhiannon Roberts has charged in high and left space in behind and Gemma Evans has had to face a one-versus-one situation twice. Wales have to be disciplined.
