  1. Postpublished at 11 mins

    Ayr United 0-0 Queen's Park

Ayr's main man Dipo Akinyemi gets on the end of a nicely dinked ball on the edge of the six-yard box.

Maybe it was too tight angle an angle despite his fine form, particularly in this fixture, as the striker pokes his effort wide.

He should probably be hitting the target there

  2. Postpublished at 9 mins

    Ayr United 0-0 Queen's Park

The ball sits up nicely for Jack Thomson to strike across the ball and swerve it towards goal.

His effort it a touch too tame and doesn't trouble Charlie Albinson.

  3. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Ayr United 0-0 Queen's Park

It has been all Ayr so far. They've already racked up three corner kicks.

It is not third time lucky though as their short routine ends up going out for a Queen's Park goalkick.

  4. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Ayr United 0-0 Queen's Park

The pitch at Somerset is looking in a good nick, Ayr manager Lee Bullen said pre-match it was watered and it looks pretty slick so far as the ball zips across it.

An early Ayr corner is swept away after a poor delivery but is lobbed back in and Queen's Park goalkeeper Callum Ferrie is called into action to palm away a dangerous header.

  5. KICK-OFFpublished at 19:45 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Ayr United 0-0 Queen's Park

A peep from referee Steven McLean's whistle is followed by the now customary pass back and lump up the field routine.

We have a ball game, folks.

Thumbs up for an Ayr United win at home.

Thumbs down for Queen's Park taking all three points.

  7. 'It's still in our hands'published at 19:42 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Ayr United v Queen's Park (19:45)

Queen's Park head coach Owen Coyle tells BBC Scotland that his side knows just how important the run-in is, with the chance of league-winning glory still in their own hands.

"It was vitally important to pick up three points, it kept us in at the business end of the season," he says.

"It puts everything back in our own hands because we know if we can win all three games then we will be champions.

"No one envisaged that at the outset of the season...but where we are we're there on merit.

"The margins are very tight in this league as we know, what we have to do is perform well tonight against a very good Ayr United side, a side I like.

"We're looking forward to the games, I think it is two very attack-minded teams and I think that's how the game will pan out.

  8. 'Hopefully we just score one more than them'published at 19:37 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Ayr United v Queen's Park (19:45)

Ayr United manager Lee Bullen has been speaking pre-match to BBC Scotland and he reckons a level-headed approach is what's needed from his squad tonight.

"For the players on the pitch, it's all about staying calm, if we go a goal up or a goal down we've got to stay calm throughout the 90 minutes and just manage the game," he says.

On Queen's Park, he adds: "They're a good side, we know they pass the ball well.

"They're up there because they deserve to be up there. Good staff, good players.

"We expect an exciting game. We had a great game last weekend against Partick and I expect that to continue on.

"The pitch has been watered, so hopefully there's good passing and a few goals for the fans and hopefully we score one more than them."

    Ayr United v Queen's Park (19:45)

Dipo Akinyemi is the league's top scorer with 20 goals so far this campaign and he clearly loves a game again Queen's Park.

The Ayr number nine has scored five goals against the Spiders this season. He'll fancy adding a few more to that haul over this evening's 90 minutes.

    Reckon he will?

  11. Previously on...published at 19:23 British Summer Time 21 April 2023

    Ayr United v Queen's Park (19:45)

Goals seem to be a likelihood tonight. And, yes, I may have just jinxed it.

In their previous three meetings, however, it has always been a lively affair.

In just the second game of the season, Ayr were two goals down but scored an added-time winner to pull off an impressive comeback win.

Queen's Park were then decidedly demolished 5-0 on their previous trip to Ayrshire followed by a 2-0 win at the start of February for Owen Coyle's side.

With even more riding on this game tonight, surely some drama shall ensue?

    Ayr United v Queen's Park (19:45)

The BBC Scotland cameras are in sunny Ayrshire for some Friday night Scottish Championship action as The Honest Men host The Spiders.

Right, that's enough small talk. What a game this is set to be tonight.

Can Ayr United jump into third? Will Queen's Park go back to the top?

Only a fool would try and predict what's going to happen in this league...
