Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has had the money but with that comes pressure and expectation.

He has gone out and signed good players. He has never panicked.

Paul Mullin has been a constant, a superstar, but the team's evolved. Parkinson has also been a constant. He has been brilliant.

Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds has been taking in the pre-match atmosphere that’s building up here at the Racecourse.

Reynolds - with documentary film crew in tow - has been chatting and taking selfies with fans.

Reynolds has previously said that watching his team leaves him “pacing around like a caged lion”. He’s in for a night of pacing then.

Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia creator Rob McElhenney completed their takeover of Wrexham in February 2021, having put forward their vision for the ailing club in an online Zoom presentation.

Today they stand on the brink of promotion but it has not all been plain sailing.

At the end of the 2020-21 season Wrexham missed out on the play-offs after defeat on the final day and a year later lost in the semi-finals after narrowly missing out on automatic promotion.

This year, however, they have led the way in one of the most remarkable title races the National League has seen.

Both Wrexham and second-placed Notts County have beaten the previous record points total in the division.

But only one team can go up automatically and the Welsh club's dramatic 3-2 win over Notts County two weeks ago went a long way to putting them in this position.
