    FT: Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag, speaking to BBC Sport: "You can't bounce back any more in the game but that is what we have to do on Sunday.

"It is about the meaning of the first goal. Our chances were better than their opportunities and we have to score them. We lost a little control at the end, the midfield was too open.

"Luke Shaw played a great game. It was a game of mistakes and he made one, but it was really unlucky because the free kick that led to the corner was not a free kick.

"Our last five games we had a good run, this was really unlucky at the end of the game. We have to bounce back on Sunday.

"It is a good team. We have seen the first half was more on our side than them. The end of the game was a little bit of turnaround but we had to make the first goal."

Brighton are such a likeable side, no egos and hard working. The polar opposites of their opposition tonight. Glad they won

  6. 'I know what this club gave to me'published at 22:52 British Summer Time 4 May 2023

    FT: Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

There's always plenty of chat about World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister potentially leaving Brighton, but this answer to Sky Sports will warm the hearts of Albion fans...

"I've been here three and a half years. I know what this club gave to me, I'm really grateful and I'm really happy to be here.

"It's a fantastic team, like a family, so every time I'm on the pitch I really enjoy being here."

Brighton the better team and worthy winners, although always difficult to take losing so late in the game. Unsurprisingly, the text is littered with hyperbolic and unwarranted criticism of ETH and Utd from 'fans'. We are a country mile better than last year, we've won a trophy, we're in another final, and we're three wins from guaranteeing UCL football next season. We've played so many games and the players are clearly fatigued; rather than complain, let's have some credit where it's clearly due.

  8. 'We have everything in our hands'published at 22:45 British Summer Time 4 May 2023

    FT: Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag to Sky Sports: "We have to be more clinical on our chances we produced in the first half. In the end we gave away a goal and that can't happen. It was also a little unlucky because it was never a free kick from where the corner came from but then you can't bounce back anymore and that is what we have to do on Sunday.

"We had the chances clear. Great opportunities, one has to be in."

Concerns over scoring? "I don't have concerns. It is about keeping the focus. Don't lose the focus, then we take that point. In the end if you can't win it because you don't finish the chances then don't lose.

"It is handball, maybe he is out of balance or maybe got a push in the back. My anger is more about the free kick before the corner, it was never a free kick. There were so many bad tackles tonight.

"It is not about the officials, we have to finish the chances, be more clinical and don't make the mistakes we did like in the last seconds.

"We have everything in our hands and we have to bounce back. We take the lessons from tonight and we have to move on."

  9. 'Hands up, a silly mistake at the end'published at 22:39 British Summer Time 4 May 2023

    FT: Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

    Manchester United

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw, speaking to Sky Sports: "Last minute, last action really. I got a little nudge but of course the hand shouldn't be there. I own up to it, take it on the chin, it cost us the game but it is tough.

"I can't even explain why my hand is up there. I got a nudge, maybe that helps with my hand going up but it shouldn't be there.

"Even before the corner the free kick was never a foul. I am not looking for excuses, but it shouldn't have been a foul that led to the corner. So maybe that corner shouldn't have even happened. I am not accusing the referee of anything.

"Hands up, a silly mistake that cost us a point."

On not taking chances: "The problem is we don't score. We had three or four big chances in the first half we should be scoring. That is happening a lot of times this season. Then again, it comes down to my mistake at the end but with the chances we had we should be scoring. The game is completely different if we score with the chances we make.

"Maybe not clinical enough, I don't know what else to say. I say about that but obviously go down to the other end what I did. It is totally disappointing and I lost us a point at the end."

On top four battle: "It changes nothing. It is still in our hands. We have to pick ourselves from the position we were win. We were comfortable but now you could say there is a real chase. Teams around us are picking up points. We still have a game in hand and it is in our hands."

  10. 'There is a God of football'published at 22:36 British Summer Time 4 May 2023

    FT: Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi, speaking to Sky Sports: "Really happy and delighted for the performance and result.

"There is a God of football. We deserved to win the semi-final but lost on penalties but today we won with a penalty.

"In both games I think we played better than United. The last result was unfair."

On the penalty: "It was a very tough moment. I preferred not to see!"

On tonight's game: "We played a fantastic game, we dominated the game. My players deserved to win.

"We are to play another six games, six very tough games. Monday we play the first tough game against Everton and we have to win. If we don't win against them we will lose these three points"

  11. 'Brighton by far the better side'published at 22:33 British Summer Time 4 May 2023

Looking at the balance of play, Brighton were by far the better side. They created a lot of chances. It's a great win for them.

  12. 'It was similar to Wembley'published at 22:29 British Summer Time 4 May 2023

    FT: Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

    Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton goalscorer Alexis Mac Allister speaking to Sky Sports:

"It was similar to Wembley, to be honest. We did everything to win the game but we couldn't score our chances.

On taking the penalty: "They know I like to have that opportunity to score. Of course I was a little bit nervous. I'm very happy every time I have an opportunity to score a goal, so I'm very happy for the team.

"It's easy to play in this team. The way we play is very nice, my team-mates are fantastic. It's down to them as well. I'm really pleased to play with them and they help me to be a better player every day.

"To be honest, after the World Cup it was a little bit difficult to play straight away. We didn't have the time to celebrate properly. But it is what it is."

Madness from Shaw, but United gave up on the game too early. For the last 20-25 minutes it was all long balls (Weghorst = Fellaini?) and no attempt at building up play. Brighton has an excellent team, but this lack of attitude from United away from Old Trafford is concerning

Brighton goalkeeper Jason Steele, speaking to Sky Sports: "That was special. It was a big night for us. We played really well. It was two good teams going toe to toe, really enjoyable to play in.

"It wasn't about revenge or anything like that. Did we have a little bit extra motivation? Yes probably but I don't think it spilled over into anymore than that and I think we deserved to win.

"Massive. It is a big three points for us."

Out comes Freed From Desire again and no Brighton fan is leaving the stadium as they chant, clap, sing and dance.

They thrashed Wolves at the weekend with goals aplenty but this was a different kind of win, a determined win where they didn't give up right until the end.

What a time to be a Brighton fan.
