Former England midfielder on BBC One

We've seen enough from a Man United point of view to suggest they can be stubborn. They are smart enough and well-drilled enough to keep testing City.

It's going to be a really interesting second half.

Nice turn and run by Jadon Sancho as he weaves his way into the area but three sky blue shirts are quickly on him and he ultimately can't get through.

Amrul Choudhury: City probably thought they could seal this game with a 3-0 before half-time and then rest the big guns for the UCL Final... It has not quite worked as they had hoped.

This match is crying out for Werghost because Eriksen has been ineffective for large portions of this match. Sub him, Sancho to the right, Rashford left, Bruno back to the 10 position and Man Utd takes hold of the tie.

  6. 'United making it ugly'published at 16:03 British Summer Time 3 June 2023

HT: Man City 1-1 Man Utd

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC One

It has been a really interesting first half.

From a United point of view, you plan all week and the you're behind after 12 seconds.

Other than conceding early, it has been the type of performance I expected from United, they've been tough and aggressive and they've made it an ugly game.

  7. 'United have the danger in transition'published at 16:02 British Summer Time 3 June 2023

HT: Man City 1-1 Man Utd

    Jaap Stam
Former Manchester United defender on BBC 5 Live

City know that United have the danger in transition, that's why they are playing so high up the pitch. United need to handle it a little bit better when handling the ball.

Steve Smith: Grealish and Silva have been ineffective. Time to bring on Foden and Mahrez.

Shane O'Neill: Eriksen and Sancho look totally out of their depth here against City. ETH should introduce some serious pace with Garnacho and Pellistri.

  11. Man Utd happiest at half-timepublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 3 June 2023

I suspect if anyone from Manchester United had been offered that half-time score after 30 seconds, they would have accepted it with relief.

From very little, they have managed to get themselves on level terms and Manchester City have lost the fluency they started the match with.

You would still expect City to come out on top but Erik ten Hag has something to work with during the break, which didn't seem likely to be the case for long parts of that opening period.

Sure Pep's angry but that's because City look like they're gifting this to United - so many missed passes.

Wan-Bissaka comes flying in but he's barely touched Grealish. I don't think it's a yellow card, it might not even be a foul.

    Let's remember it's a derby.

  16. YELLOW CARDpublished at 45+4 mins

    Man City 1-1 Man Utd

Jack Grealish is caught again, this time it is Aaron Wan-Bissaka who slides in and clips the Manchester City midfielder. It results in Wan-Bissaka getting the first yellow of the match and City have a free kick in a decent position on the left side of the box.

I think Jack Grealish is still stewing from the penalty decision. He's struggled to get into the game and pushes Marcus Rashford in frustration as he is fouled on the left flank.
