United's lack of pressure on the City players when they're on the attack has been a feature of many of their games this season. Allowing them to run 20-30 yards unopposed is only going to panic the defence even more. In possession they've been laboured, but they've been positively sloth-like in midfield. Needs to be far snappier passing and sharper awareness.

Surely John Stones has to play in this same role for England... with Phillips dropped. Stones and Rice seems nice.

Alejandro Garnacho surges into the box and cuts inside John Stones but the Manchester City defender times his challenge well to block the shot.

Fifteen minutes to go and Manchester United are enjoying a good spell now.

Jadon Sancho has the ball on the edge of the box and he tries to find Bruno Fernandes but Manchester City are able to scramble away.

Garnacho doesn't pass up the opportunity to have a go. His eyes lit up when he managed to work that on to his right foot and he wasn't far away from sneaking it into the far corner.

He's having the impact that Ten Hag wanted.

And at the other end Alejandro Garnacho is not far off as he bends a shot just wide of the far post.

They've been second best in this half but unless Manchester City can get a third then United are very much in this.

For a moment, Ilkay Gundogan thinks he has an FA Cup hat-trick as he prods in after David de Gea bats away Erling Haaland's shot, but the flag goes up for offside.

I heard quite a few Manchester United supporters chanting earlier about their side being the only won to win the Treble.

Evidently, Manchester City cannot win the Treble today but those chants are 20 minutes away from getting rammed down United throats.

Ooh, not far off from Marcus Rashford as he is given space on the edge of the box and connects sweetly with the ball but drives it just over the bar.

Good effort and Manchester United need to get the ball to Rashford more.

John Stones, in that defender-midfielder hybrid role, has been brilliant so far in this half. He's been getting forward but also spotting and dealing with any slight moments of danger.

Andrew Preistley: Alejandro Garnacho, time to write your name into Manchester United history.

Aleks Yakubssohn: Defense is part of football where management is especially crucial. how a team defends speaks best of coach's performance. ETH may have improved MU's fortunes this year, but they still are atrocious at the back. until it changes his success will be subject to debate.

Great work from Marcus Rashford as he gets back to pinch the ball off Rodri and then quickly finds Alejandro Garnacho but John Stones is across quickly to sweep up the danger.

Babyboomer: I suppose some will blame de Gea for United only having 1 shot on target (a penalty), or none from open play in 60 minutes. The outfield players collectively of a far lower standard than the keeper.

Is Gundogan now the greatest German player ever to play in England? Klinsmann and Ozil (early days) are the only ones I can think of who come close!

A big moment for Alejandro Garnacho. The arrival of the 18-year-old was met with a positive response from United's fans. Their side needs more of an attacking threat with around half an hour left to save this final.

Manchester City are finding a lot of space in midfield and John Stones is able to break forward but his shot is more in danger of hitting someone in Boxpark Wembley than troubling David de Gea.

Lots of noise from the blue half of the stadium but glum faces in the Manchester United side.
