It's not been pretty. It's not been enjoyable. I've not got any nails left.

But, if England see this out, they are through to the knockout stages.

Keira Walsh's injury - although not confirmed yet - has once more opened the conversation around ACL injuries in women's football.

Prior to the Women's World Cup, a special Football Daily podcast episode looked in depth at the injury crisis in the women's game, providing intriguing insight.

  3. 'What a let off'published at 11:19 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    England 1-0 Denmark

    Rachel Brown-Finnis
    Ex-England goalkeeper on BBC One

It feels like it is coming as well.

England look off the pace defensively, they're just not pressing.

It is a lovely run and a great header for Vangsgaard.

What a let off for England! They've not seen this game out by any means, Denmark are ramping up the tempo.

  4. 'Huge opportunity'published at 11:19 British Summer Time 28 July 2023

    England 1-0 Denmark

    Karen Bardsley
Former England and Manchester City goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Vansgaard makes a great run across Rachel Daly and I'll be honest, I don't think Rachel Daly knew anything about where she was.

What a shot missed. Huge opportunity.

  5. HITS THE WOODWORK - Denmarkpublished at 87 mins

    England 1-0 Denmark

Amalie Vangsgaard was Denmark's saviour in the first match and is so close to scoring for a second game in a row.

A cross comes in from the left, Vangsgaard gets there ahead of Rachel Daly and produces a fine glancing header. Mary Earps in the England goal is beaten, but the ball hits the right upright and bounces away.

    So close to an equaliser.

  6. Postpublished at 86 mins

    England 1-0 Denmark

Lauren James sends a lovely pass with the outside of the boot, wide right to Chloe Kelly. Denmark are able to get some bodies back and it falls to Lucy Bronze, who produces a beautiful, sweet angled strike from distance.

It'd be one of the goals of the tournament if it was on target, but zips wide.

    England 1-0 Denmark

This would've settled some nerves, but Ella Toone, who has now been taken off, could only shoot over the top.

I've got quite a busy morning so if the Lionesses could score a second goal so I could relax and get on I'd be so grateful.

  9. CLOSE!published at 82 mins

Ten minutes plus injury time to go. England could really do with another goal.

Bethany England nearly gets it with a glancing header from Rachel Day's cross from deep, but the header is just off target.

  10. 'England is a poacher'published at 79 mins

    England 1-0 Denmark

    Karen Bardsley

Bethany England, she just has a nose for goal. She is like a poacher in a sense. She left Chelsea and took a gamble. Scored loads of goals and gave Sarina Wiegman no choice but to pick her.

Lauren Hemp's introduction means Lauren James will be playing in the no.10 now too.

A huge cheer in the stadium as the attendance is announced as 40,439.

And an even bigger cheer as Lauren Hemp and Bethany England - on for her 22nd international appearance - are introduced.

Fabulous to see Beth England come on.

This is exactly what the Lionesses need, someone to be a willing runner, to stretch that Denmark defence.

Lauren Hemp also coming on to that effect, with James moving into the central position vacated by Toone.

  13. SUBSTITUTIONS - England and Hemp onpublished at 78 mins

A double change for England and off go Alessia Russo and Ella Toone and on come Tottenham striker Bethany England and Manchester City forward Lauren Hemp.

Changes for the Danes as well with Nicoline Sorensen of Everton replacing Stine Ballisager and Frederikke Thogersen on for Rikke Madsen.

Is it down to their boots or to the training they got during their formative years, 8-16, not physically preparing them well enough for the demands of the modern women's game? I doubt they got the same level of gym and strength conditioning boys would have.

The ACL injures have really shown that if you remove a few key players, England lacks that depth to replace them. Hope they manage to regain that Euros tempo, but it is sad a lot of that tournament's brightest players are gone now.

We haven't seen much of Alessia Russo and she blasts an effort at goal but it zooms wide.

At the other end, Mary Earps has to get a hand to a Denmark shot from Katrine Veje, which would have crept in under the crossbar.

Just like in the 1-0 win over Haiti, Earps is showing her class when called upon.

  17. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 73 mins

    England 1-0 Denmark

Denmark's first-match star, Amalie Vangsgaard, who scored five minutes after coming on against China in the 1-0 win, is on in the Danes first change. Off goes Josefine Hasbo.

Daniel: Are England not winning? The negativity despite being ahead in every stat including the one of actually scoring a goal is ridiculous. Other top teams are struggling & with those retiring and now 3 top players missing England weren’t going to be as fluid as in euros.

I think the spaces are starting to appear now for England in terms of do they have the ability in the legs to keep pressing the way they have?

Denmark have really crafty wingers and midfielders as well.
