Former Luton defender on BBC Three Counties Radio

Alfie Doughty is still plugging away, he's worked tremendously hard the whole game, he's flashed one across the six-yard box but there was nobody there at the far post waiting to tuck it in.

    Luton 2-0 Sunderland (3-2 agg)

Elijah Adebayo was almost keeping the ball in the corner a minute ago. Bit early for that innit?

    Sunderland flow forward.

Amad Diallo sprays it to Abdullah Ba, his fierce cross is cleared.

Pierre Ekwah wins it back. Luton eventually have the number and it's booted away.

Just a reminder. Luton not there yet.

    Luton 2-0 Sunderland (3-2 agg)

Luton's sheer persistence gives them a corner.

They play it short, quickly. Elijah Adebayo is leaning back and skies the ball over the bar.

His team-mates are vexed. Punch of frustration into the air.

Adebayo's talents are undoubted, but he's missed a few.

  6. Postpublished at 79 mins

    Luton 2-0 Sunderland (3-2 agg)

Luton can't quite find that magic third just for some breathing space.

Sunderland can't get a crucial second.

Abdullah Ba comes on and powers forward, Amad Diallo rolls a ball into the box. Ethan Horvath gets his paws on it.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 78 mins

    Luton 2-0 Sunderland (3-2 agg)

Lynden Gooch is off for Sunderland with Niall Huggins replacing him.

Dan Neil follows. Abdullah Ba for him.

Luton merely replace lost fluids with a quick drinks break.

    Luton 2-0 Sunderland (3-2 agg)

Jack Clarke's free-kick rattles off team-mate Dan Neil's shins, but breaks kindly for Sunderland.

Amad Diallo and Patrick Roberts try to combine on the right, but run out of steam, and Carlton Morris back defending sweeps clear.

One further chance, Patrick Roberts skips in, goes for a curler. Wide and high.

  9. Hatters 'on the back foot'published at 76 mins

    Luton 2-0 Sunderland (3-2 agg)

    Marco Gabbiadini
Ex-Sunderland striker on BBC Radio Newcastle

We've seen a shift from Luton in the last few minutes, they have gone on the back foot a little bit and tried to absorb the pressure.

We said on Saturday, to work as hard as they have done for the entire 90 minutes is very difficult to do...

There are signs that there are a few gaps opening up in that defence.

  10. Postpublished at 75 mins

    Luton 2-0 Sunderland (3-2 agg)

Luton's shape is suffocating, with Sunderland's possession to no avail.

Jack Clarke can't wriggle away from Cody Drameh, Edouard Michut's loose touch yields possession.

Sunderland get it back, this time Clarke gets a free-kick from Drameh's challenge.

    Opportunity.

  11. Postpublished at 73 mins

    Luton 2-0 Sunderland (3-2 agg)

Absolute credit to Luke O'Nien, who despite standing a fair bit shorter than Elijah Adebayo, continues to prove himself to be an utter nuisance to the big centre-forward.

Adebayo gallops down the left, but can't shake off Trai Hume, and eventually he can clear.

    Luton 2-0 Sunderland (3-2 agg)

Sunderland are being compressed into their back-four and not even the coolest, rondo-savvy team are going to play their way out from that.

They're just about keeping heads above water. Alfie Doughty's cross rolling behind those in orange in the Sunderland box, much to their relief.

  13. Luton 'have to take control'published at 69 mins

    Luton 2-0 Sunderland (3-2 agg)

    Leon Barnett
Former Luton defender on BBC Three Counties Radio

I'm not saying the game is won but I think Luton have to take the game to their own pace now, make it harder for Sunderland in the closing stages - they have got to take control of the game.

Sunderland have had a couple of chances but I think emotions got the better of Patrick Roberts when he put it over the bar.

    Luton 2-0 Sunderland (3-2 agg)

Pelly Ruddock-Mpanzu wins a free-kick for Luton inside Sunderland territory.

Not a bloke you want to try to boss or bully. He began his Luton career mixing it with the bruisers of the National League trying to find his ankles.

The Championship will feel like easy street by comparison.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 64 mins

Fair play to Patrick Roberts, he wriggles his way in off the right, holding off Alfie Doughty for Sunderland, and just as he gets a yard with his shimmy, his shot rolls wide.

Another change by Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray as Joe Gelhardt is replaced by French skillster Edouard Michut.

He's supremely gifted but it's some fight in midfield. He'll need all his Gallic cool.

  16. OFF THE LINEpublished at 62 mins

    Luton 2-0 Sunderland (3-2 agg)

Another goal-line save for Sunderland and it's Patrick Roberts who nods the ball away as it headed goalwards.

    Living nervously.

  17. A 'good chance' goes beggingpublished at 61 mins

    Luton 2-0 Sunderland (3-2 agg)

    Leon Barnett
Former Luton defender on BBC Three Counties Radio

It was definitely a good chance. I think Adebayo wanted to get the shot off but the ball was just stuck under his feet.

It was really sloppy play from Sunderland who had the ball in a good area of the pitch but lost it and Luton were through. They can't take those chances.

  18. Postpublished at 61 mins

    Luton 2-0 Sunderland (3-2 agg)

Another fearsome corner from Alfie Doughty, pummelled in like a shot at the near post, headed over by Patrick Roberts for Sunderland.

Jordan Clark will follow up with the next one...

  19. Postpublished at 61 mins

    Luton 2-0 Sunderland (3-2 agg)

    Same scenario, different names.

This time it's Aji Alese who watches Elijah Adebayo fall over in the area, but the Sunderland defender got a foot to it.

Great ball to set Adebayo away, but he didn't get the shot off and it's a corner.

  20. Postpublished at 59 mins

    Luton 2-0 Sunderland (3-2 agg)

Luke O'Nien rages as Elijah Adebayo tumbles in the box, wanting a penalty.

Sunderland's defender was right to, as that wasn't a spot-kick.
