There seems to be a bit more freedom in this England side now.

The spaces seem to be getting smaller and the connections better. Since Kelly came on she is driving the line well.

Stevie: Frustration and a lack of maturity by Lauren. Remember Beckham doing something extremely similar.

Anon: Great decision to send Lauren James off. You simply can't do that. Especially when there's VAR. Advantage Nigeria?

Theo: That’s one of the most unnecessary red cards to ever receive… could cost England dearly

  9. James' frustration unforgiveablepublished at 10:18 British Summer Time 7 August 2023

    England 0-0 Nigeria

    Emma Sanders
    BBC Sport at Brisbane Stadium

That was the clearest outburst of frustration we have seen. Lauren James, who has been sensational so far at this World Cup, lost possession and didn't like it. It was such a clear red card.

Fans in the stadium saw it straight away. I knew instantly she was going off. If this does go to extra-time, England are going to have to really grind this out. How costly could that outburst from James prove?

    Vicki Sparks

Shades of David Beckham against Argentina from Lauren James.

What is she doing? Why do that?

    Completely unneccessary from Lauren James.

  15. RED CARDpublished at 88 mins

    England 0-0 Nigeria

Yep. Lauren James show of petulance results in her seeing red.

It is a massive, massive moment in this tie.

They may well get through to full time, but they then have to deal with the rest with a player less.

  20. YELLOW CARDpublished at 86 mins

    England 0-0 Nigeria

Lauren James goes into the book.

It is for petulantly walking on the back of Michelle Alozie after a free-kick doesn't go her way.

That could have ended in a much worse conclusion. It still might...
