    Leicester women have said goodbye to 12 players as manager Willie Kirk looks to build on remaining in the Women's Super League this season.

    Leicester were a relegation worry all season but bagged survival on the final day of the season.

    Ex-club captain Sophie Barker, Natasha Flint, Kirstie Levell, Charlie Devlin, Lachante Paul, Molly Pike, Jess Sigsworth, Abbie McManus, Connie Scofield, Jemma Purfield, Ellen Jones and Georgia Eaton-Collins all depart the club.

    Manchester City have triggered the further year option in Filippa Angeldahl's contract with the Women's Super League club.

    She will now remain at the club until June 2024 after a scoring eight goals in 48 appearances since joining in 2021.

    Reading football club have confirmed their women's side will switch to operating on a part-time basis ahead of the 2023-24 season.

    Following defeat at home to Chelsea in the final league game of the Women’s Super League campaign, Kelly Chambers' side were relegated to the second tier of the women’s game for the first time since 2015.

    CEO Dayong Pang described the situation as "difficult" but "necessary" ahead of next season which will represent the "most viable solution" at this moment in time.

    "We would like to acknowledge all of the hard work and unquestionable dedication to Reading Football Club of Kelly Chambers and her coaching staff, the players and all the staff. The club will now be working extremely hard to build a team to proudly represent our town in the WSL Championship in the 2023-24 campaign," Pang added.

    "Our owner, Mr Dai Yongge, has his full focus concentrated on our club’s rebuild. He is fully committed to consolidating our efforts into a sensible and sustainable reset, designed to bring success back to RG2."

    Tom Lockyer says he has "been given the all-clear" to resume his career after having heart surgery to address the problem that saw him collapse during Luton's play-off final win at Wembley.

    The 28-year-old had an atrial fibrillation, a condition the NHS describes, external as causing "an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate".

    It caused the defender to collapse in the eighth minute of the Wembley final.

    "I've had the operation to fix it and it shouldn't happen again," he said.

    "There's not really any reason to say why that happened.

    "I've been given the all-clear - it is what it is and I just want to draw a line under it now and move on.

    "I've had my full heart checked and double checked with all the scans and tests they can do on a heart, and they've all come back positive."

    Pep Guardiola and Ikay Gundogan, who live in the same Manchester city centre apartment block, have built a close friendship.

    And Guardiola has not made any secret of his desire for Gundogan - one of his first signings as City boss in 2016 - to stay.

    The pair have now shared in 11 trophy triumphs and Gundogan's influence is growing on and off the pitch after he was voted new club captain by his team-mates following Fernandinho's exit last summer.

    Gundogan, from Germany, scored two of the three goals that completed the title-winning comeback against Aston Villa on the final day of last season and he is now the fastest ever scorer in FA Cup final history, thanks to his 13-second thunderbolt against Manchester United.

    "We are neighbours," said Guardiola. "We live in the same floor for many years so he is a close friend of mine.

    "He plays exceptionally well. I don't forget him scoring those goals against Aston Villa.

    "Hopefully, we can finish in a good way."

    Pep Guardiola hopes the postscript to a historic season for Manchester City will be Ilkay Gundogan signing a new contract.

    The midfielder, whose present deal at the club expires this summer, scored two as City beat Manchester United 2-1 at Wembley to win the FA Cup.

    Saturday's Champions League final against Inter Milan could be the 32-year-old's final City appearance.

    "He knows what I think," said Guardiola.

    "(Football director) Txiki (Begiristain) is working on it. Hopefully he can be successful."

    Bild are reporting the midfielder could end up back at Borussia Dotrmund if Barcelona cannot afford him. And Sport are reporting Barca want to offer him a longer contract with lower wages with Arsenal and Saudi interest other options.

    Speaking after the World Cup, Brighton chief executive Paul Barber hoped keeping hold of Alexis Mac Allister wouldn't "be a problem for a couple of years."

    But just six months after making that statement, the midfielder is expected to depart Brighton after four years at the club.

    Barber told BBC Sport in December: "Of course, when staff and players do well, as we've seen in the last few months, they do attract the interest of other big clubs.

    "These are clubs that are wealthier and have the chance to give players a new level, we understand that and we're not naive to that.

    "All we can do is protect ourselves the best we can through the contracts and hope we can hold on to the player for as long as possible, but this is a young man who has just won the World Cup at 23 and set up arguably one of the most iconic goals in World Cup history."

    Alexis Mac Allister joined Brighton in a reported £7m deal, external during January 2019 from Argentinos Juniors, where he initially returned on loan.

    He also had a loan stint Boca Juniors and, after making his Argentina debut in September 2019, he made his first appearance for the Seagulls in March 2020 against Wolves.

    The midfielder currently has a deal to remain at the club until June 2025, with the club having the option to extend it by a year.

    However, after winning the World Cup with Argentina last year, the 23-year-old has been on the radar of multiple clubs and is strongly linked with a move to Liverpool.
