  1. Good omens for Scotland?published at 16:30 British Summer Time 17 June 2023

    Norway v Scotland (17:00)

    Jane Lewis
    BBC Sport Scotland in Oslo

Scotland have faced Norway 18 times in the past. The good news is we lead the way in terms of wins.

Scotland have prevailed on nine occasions, there have been six draws between the sides, while Norway have three wins to their name.

If you want to take a positive from back in the day, then how about this result from May 1929 - a friendly match, albeit not in Oslo, but in Bergen, where Scotland ran out 7-3 winners.

Steve Clarke's side would take that alright. Although, most would settle for a 1-0 victory.

  2. 'Clarke usually finds the plan'published at 16:29 British Summer Time 17 June 2023

    Norway v Scotland (17:00)

    Leanne Crichton
    Ex-Scotland international on BBC Sportsound

For Scotland, they can only really focus on themselves. In the past year, when you look at the different types of opposition and challenges that Scotland have faced, more often than not, Steve Clarke has found a game plan.

Good teams perform consistently and pick up points consistently. Scotland have shown really good signs in the last year.

  3. What else do we know about Norway?published at 16:27 British Summer Time 17 June 2023

    Norway v Scotland (17:00)

Ranked 44th in the world, eight places below Scotland, Norway haven't been to a major finals since Euro 2000.

They finished second in their 2022-23 Nations League B group, adrift of Serbia and above Slovenia and Sweden.

In their last qualification bid, for the 2022 World Cup, they were third behind Netherlands and Turkey despite losing just twice in 10 matches.

  5. Boos for the boys in bluepublished at 16:23 British Summer Time 17 June 2023

    Norway v Scotland (17:00)

    Jane Lewis
    BBC Scotland in Oslo

The Scotland players have just run out onto the pitch to a chorus of boos from the home fans.

The Tartan Army were doing their best to make their cheers heard, but they were slightly drowned out...

  6. Data in Scotland's favour... for nowpublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 17 June 2023

    Norway v Scotland (17:00)

Positive vibes only. According to our mates at Nielsen's Gracenote, Scotland have a 73% chance of qualifying directly from their group for Euro 2024.

Even if Scotland mess that up, they still have the safety net of the play-offs after winning their Nations League section last year.

Taking that into account, Gracenote believes there's an 82.9% chance overall that the Tartan Army are going to be firing washing-up liquid into various German water fountains next summer.

Time to get carried away yet?

  7. Eh, it's warm in Oslopublished at 16:18 British Summer Time 17 June 2023

    Norway v Scotland (17:00)

This should give you an idea of the heat in Oslo.

Quick Google search is telling me it's currently 30 degrees over there.

Sorry but that's too warm for doing any kind of exercise. Statements like that probably explain my current physical condition.

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard is also a huge threat

Erling Haaland has dominated the build-up to this one. He's dominated the start of this live text.

Again, Scotland boss Steve Clarke was asked last night how he plans to deal with the Norwegian phenomenon.

He stressed the need to focus on "Norway the team" rather than fixating on the Man City striker.

Scotland defender Liam Cooper echoed his gaffer. "To put all our focus on one player would be wrong of us," the Leeds centre-back said.

"Obviously [Martin] Odegaard is a very good player, he's also been in a title challenge this year [with Arsenal]. They've got amazing players.

"We have to keep Erling and Odegaard in check, but there's a lot of other players to worry about as well."

  11. Porteous v Haaland: The trilogypublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 17 June 2023

    Norway v Scotland (17:00)

This is actually Erling Haaland's third encounter with Ryan Porteous, who will be hoping it's third time lucky.

Haaland has five goals in two games against the Watford centre-back. The first battle came in an under-19s clash at international level back in 2019. Haaland scored a hat-trick in a 5-4 win for Norway.

The second came when Molde dumped Hibs out of Europa League qualifying six months later. Haaland scored a brace.

  13. 'Porteous will relish Haaland challenge'published at 16:04 British Summer Time 17 June 2023

    Norway v Scotland (17:00)

    Tom English
BBC Scotland's chief sports writer on Sportsound

Ryan Porteous will relish taking on the best striker in the world. He's just made that way.

He'll be absolutely gunning for Erling Haaland. Whether he's able to contain him, that's another thing, but Porteous will absolutely relish that challenge.

Haaland has met the best defenders in the world. Porteous will bring something slightly different, I don't think he'll be quiet in his ears.

  14. Haaland's first Norway start in nine monthspublished at 16:01 British Summer Time 17 June 2023

    Norway v Scotland (17:00)

Any hopes of Erling Haaland being too hungover to start can be punted into the distance now.

The Man City striker was in party mode with his team-mates last week after securing a historic treble, and he features from the off tonight.

It's the forward's first game for his country in almost nine months.

  15. Hendry in for injured Hanleypublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 17 June 2023

    Norway v Scotland (17:00)

Steve Clarke has made just one change to the side that started March's memorable win over Spain in March.

That solitary switch comes in defence as injured centre-half Grant Hanley comes out for Jack Hendry.

Clarke appears to be opting with the back three again tonight.

  16. 'Hendry's pace important'published at 15:56 British Summer Time 17 June 2023

    Norway v Scotland (17:00)

    Craig Levein
Former Scotland manager on BBC Sportsound

I thought John Souttar might play, but Jack Hendry has those attributes. He's quick and Scotland will need some pace.

He's played well in recent matches. They're in for a tough night. We're going to have to be really diligent with our defending. It'll be down to our defenders whether we come away with any points tonight.

Hands up if you thought the football was finished...

Nope. Still more to come. And it's big. Still very much early stays, but Scotland can take a gigantic step towards Euro 2024 tonight.

They're in Oslo to face Erling Haaland's Norway. Send it on.
