    FT: Aston Villa 6-1 Brighton

    Karen Bardsley

It has been an absolute blast. It was a fantastic effort from Ollie Watkins but an equally amazing save from Jason Steele - he spread himself massively and the rebound fell to Douglas Luiz.

Big day for David Moyes. This is his 900th league game as a manager. His first? You have to go all the way back to January 1998 when he took charge of Preston at Watford in the old Second Division.

Asked about his longevity, Moyes said: "You have to have an incredible love of the game and you have to want to continue wanting to improve."

You can’t dwell on the result although you have to understand why it happened. You have to quickly say, 'Lads, this is the Premier League and we need to put it right'. Work out why there were mistakes and just try to build the players up on the training ground.

They have been in games and had actually started the season quite well, only to not get results. The Newcastle result really put them back.

We've got a busy afternoon so we won't hang around.

We'll bring you reaction from Villa Park but we'll start building up to the six games kicking off at 15:00 BST in the meantime.

    Aston Villa 6-1 Brighton

All over. Villa were brilliant and pick up their 10th consecutive home league win - a new record for them.

    Brighton... one to forget.

    It comes to nothing.

Villa try to break but lose the ball on the left. Jhon Duran stops a quick free-kick and gets a yellow card.

Lucas Digne has managed to get a bloody nose in the process.

    Aston Villa 5-1 Brighton

Brighton have equalled their Premier League club record by conceding at least five goals in a single match.

They do have a corner here to try and get something back at the other end though.

Ollie Watkins is given one to chase down the right but he won't match the pace of Tariq Lamptey, who is tracking back for Brighton.

Aston Villa are absolutely terrorising Brighton in every position but my what a beautiful curling effort form Jacob Ramsey around Jason Steele in the Brighton goal.

The build-up was fantastic but it all started with again, sloppy play from Brighton and dispossession from Joao Pedro in midfield.

  14. 'Villa can be up there'published at 14:20 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Aston Villa 5-1 Brighton

    Lucy Ward
Former Leeds striker on TNT Sports

People have talked about it being the best of the rest but I do think Aston Villa can be up there. Unai Emery has raised the standards and at home, this is a fortress.

Sometimes it can work against a team if it is not going well but everyone is behind them.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 90 mins

    Aston Villa 5-1 Brighton

Boubacar Kamara has picked up a knock and heads off. Youri Tielemans is about to come on as his replacement but Brighton get things back under way while he waits for the referee's go-ahead.

CM: No doubt I speak for a lot of Gooners here: how does Havertz keep getting starts, and if he MUST start, why push Jesus out to the left, when up front Jesus makes more space for Kai to run onto to? What do Vieira and Smith-Rowe need to do to claim that left-wing spot?

  19. goal

GOAL - Aston Villa 5-1 Brightonpublished at 14:16 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Jacob Ramsey (85 mins)

A lovely, lovely goal from substitute Jacob Ramsey to really cap off what has been a brilliant performance from Aston Villa.

Ramsey receives it off Ollie Watkins on the edge of the box. He uses Lucas Digne's overlapping run as a decoy and curls it beautifully into the far corner.
