    Aston Villa 3-0 Brighton

There was a VAR check for the contact on Solly March but the goal stands.

March immediately goes up the other end looking for a response but he heads it over the bar from close range. He might have been offside. Decent chance though.

  2. goal

GOAL - Aston Villa 3-0 Brightonpublished at 12:55 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

Pervis Estupinan (own goal - 26 mins)

Solly March wants a free-kick in the middle when he gives it away. Adam Webster is appealling but Villa get on with it.

Lucas Digne, Ollie Watkins and Moussa Diaby all link-up before Diaby hits it first-time at Jason Steele.

It's a good save initially and Diaby's rebound is scuffed before going in off Brighton's Pervis Estupinan.

It's a scrappy, terrible goal but Villa are absolutely flying. Brighton are 3-0 down at Villa Park!

It was picked up beautifully by Diaby and he slipped in a great ball to Ollie Watkins and what a composed finish.

Going back across the goalkeeper just creeping in to that near post past the outstretched Steele.

  4. 'Watkins has gone to the next level'published at 12:54 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Aston Villa 2-0 Brighton

    Lucy Ward
Former Leeds striker on TNT Sports

He has done a lot of work under different managers and he didn't score very much. Now, under Emery, he has gone to the next level and you can really see that in front of goal.

  5. Postpublished at 24 mins

    Aston Villa 2-0 Brighton

    Villa are on one now.

Moussa Diaby drags an effort dangerously wide. I think he was actually trying to cross it from the left-hand side.

  6. VAR check...published at 12:53 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Aston Villa 2-0 Brighton

Nicolo Zaniolo was in an offside position so there's a VAR check to see whether he's affecting goalkeeper Jason Steele's eyeline.

It doesn't last much longer than a minute and the goal stands.

    Villa are 2-0 up!

  7. 'Everyone here believes'published at 12:52 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Aston Villa 2-0 Brighton

    Lucy Ward
Former Leeds striker on TNT Sports

Everybody in here of a Villa persuasion believes in this team and believes in the manager and that is so important.

  8. goal

GOAL - Aston Villa 2-0 Brightonpublished at 12:50 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Ollie Watkins (21 mins)

Ollie Watkins is really enjoying himself!

Joel Veltman gives it away under pressure as Villa press high up. Watkins carries it down the left and cuts inside.

He sees the space at the near post and dribbles it past goalkeeper Jason Steele smartly, and into the corner.

Villa are front-footed, they're aggressive and it is exactly what their manager asked for in response to the game in midweek.

Ollie Watkins is absolutely feeling it. This is a fantastic game.

  10. Postpublished at 20 mins

    Aston Villa 1-0 Brighton

Solly March's pass is way overcooked but the referee pulls play back for a foul on Danny Welbeck in the build-up.

Brighton use the free-kick to try and unleash Kaoru Mitoma but he runs into two defenders.

  11. CLOSE!published at 18 mins

    Aston Villa 1-0 Brighton

Another chance for Villa as Ollie Watkins fires one inches past the far post!

My prediction is that, despite you asking people nicely, they will continue not to include their names on posts.

    Aston Villa 1-0 Brighton

End-to-end stuff now as Villa break down the left but Nicolo Zaniolo is stopped by Joel Veltman, who earns a free-kick afterwards.

  14. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Aston Villa 1-0 Brighton

Villa have had more control in these early stages and it's paid off. Brighton haven't seen too much of the ball. Can they settle into it and find a response?

Solly March immediately makes a run in behind but doesn't see the pass to Danny Welbeck and the chance goes begging.

  15. goal

GOAL - Aston Villa 1-0 Brightonpublished at 12:43 British Summer Time 30 September 2023

    Ollie Watkins (14 mins)

    A lovely goal.

Matty Cash gets in behind Kaoru Mitoma on the right and slides in an early ball.

Ollie Watkins times his run to perfection and it's a comfortable finish for him as he places it first-time into the left corner.

  16. Postpublished at 13 mins

    Aston Villa 0-0 Brighton

This is a good chance for Villa but they have totally wasted it!

It's won back in the middle and Moussa Diaby is set on his way down the right.

He has acres of space and options in the middle but holds on to it far too long and ends up dribbling into a wall of players on the edge of the box.

  17. Postpublished at 11 mins

    Aston Villa 0-0 Brighton

Moussa Diaby has a go from long range and it's got some power on it. Adam Webster gets his body in the way.

Hubris: Not sure where Villa fans have gotten all this hubris from. They were beaten by Legia. They were smashed by LFC and Newcastle. But they think they can beat a Brighton team most are tipping to finish top 6? as I said.

Ben: Possibly the best thing about watching Brighton this season is seeing how good the team are at supporting inexperienced players. With so many games it will be the difference.

Anon: My prediction for Brighton will lose today to Aston villa 2-1.

Mike: I feel Brighton need either a top four finish or a cup this season. They are on the same crest of a wave Southampton were on, which has proved is not sustainable.
