Arsenal v Man City (16:00 BST)

Juanma Lillo has returned to Pep Guardiola's coaching staff.

City won two titles in his two years at the club from 2020 to 2022 before he went off to manage Al Sadd in Qatar.

The 57-year-old has now returned to City.

Guardiola said: "He understands football on an incredible level, so he is the perfect person for me to work alongside.

"I have always been inspired by him – his knowledge of football, his intelligence and his humanity mark him out as a very special person in my life – and we have a shared ideology.

"He is a friend, a colleague and an inspiration. I am so, so happy he is back here at Manchester City.

"His preparation for matches is absolutely amazing. I know he will raise standards because he works so hard every single day."

The clouds have cleared and the sun is out as kick off approaches.

Wembley is sold out for the game and the stands are getting full as people head in from the concourses to take their seats.

Kick off for this game was brought forward 90 minutes to give the travelling Manchester City fans more time to be able to get home. They will also be relieved there's no extra time to throw into the mix - straight to penalties.

Arsenal v Man City (16:00 BST)

After the Gunners fell short in the Premier League title race with Manchester City last season, Guardiola still expects a tough challenge from Arteta's side again this campaign.

"Arsenal have been there since Arsene Wenger installed the club in that position," he added.

"Maybe the style dropped in the last years, but Mikel brought them again to where they have been. There is not one or two teams but a lot of teams who will fight for everything.

"The challenge is massive for us. Mentally, how we can grow as a team and football wise, the challenge is there. How starving are we?

"How is our desire to defend what we won? We will see during a process of 11 months during the lower moments. I think we will have more than ever, so it is how we overcome them."

As clear a sign as any that what happens in the Community Shield can't really be taken as an indicator for the season ahead is what happened last year.

That game saw Manchester City face Liverpool, with both sides showing off their shiny new strikers in Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez.

Haaland missed a right gobbler towards the end of the game while Nunez scored in a 3-1 win for the Reds.

Despite that, Haaland, of course, went on to score an incredible 52 goals in all competitions as City won the Premier League, finishing 22 points clear of Liverpool.

I can't speak for every Arsenal fan but on the tube and walk to Wembley there was a renewed sense of optimism among those Gunners supporters also making the journey at the same time.

To lead the Premier League for 248 days and not win the title would be difficult for any football fan to take, but Arsenal look to have recruited well over the summer with the arrivals of Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber appearing to strengthen the core of their team.

As questions around the futures of Manchester City's Bernardo Silva and Kyle Walker continue, Pep Guardiola says they "will do everything" to keep the them at the club.

The City manager said: "Regarding Kyle [Walker] and Bernardo [Silva], what could I say? They are so important for us. We want them, we are going to do everything [to keep them]. We want [Silva] to stay because he wants to stay.

"These two players' [situations] are difficult - we have already lost two incredible players with [Ilkay] Gundogan and Riyad [Mahrez], they scored goals in big important games. To lose Kyle and Bernardo would be so difficult. We will do everything to keep them."

Mikel Arteta considered his future as Arsenal manager after last season's title disappointment until deep "reflection" persuaded him to stay put.

The Gunners led the Premier League by five points from Manchester City before consecutive draws with Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton proved costly.

Arsenal's next game was a heavy defeat at City, who went on to win the title by five points from the London side.

"The first few weeks, very tough," said Arteta, looking back at his summer.

"The first thing you have to do is look in the mirror and understand - is there something that you should have done better or differently? If that is the case then learn from it.

"Judge yourself - 'are you still the right person to drive the club, the team, forwards in the way that you want and do you have that energy and that belief that you want to do it?'.

"It took a big reflection, but the answer is yes and I feel with a lot of energy and positiveness."
