That is all from us tonight as the Republic clinch their first three points of their Euro 2024 campaign with a comfortable victory against Gibraltar.

We will be back in September for that mammoth double header against France and the Netherlands, which will go a long way to deciding whether the Republic will be at next year's tournament in Germany.

Captain James McClean speaking to RTE: "It was incredible. That moment before the game with my family on the pitch and then the reception I got from the crowd made it that extra special.

"To cap it off with the win and to captain my country, it couldn't have gone much better.

"We have a tendency here to jump to negative conclusions. We are only three games in and we still have the home game against Greece, we have to win that, the Dutch twice and France away so there is a lot of games to play.

"Points will be taken off each other, we just have to make sure points don't get taken off us.

"We are all in this together, ideally we would like the media on our side too and a bit of positivity, especially with a young squad.

"I said to the team in the huddle, 'to create something special you have to start somewhere'.

"Let's make sure it is the first step tonight on qualifying for Germany".

Players and staff alike congratulate James McClean as he won his 100th cap for his country.

McClean produced a performance to match the occasion, registering two assists in an energetic performance.

Jason Knight speaking to RTE: "It is the response we needed. On Friday we didn't get the result or performance we wanted.

"This was the only way we could respond, getting a good, comprehensive win and that is what we did and we put in a good performance as well which is important.

"I think we came out second-half and really turned it up."

The Republic of Ireland get there (in the end) as they claim a 3-0 victory to secure their first three points in Group B to end the June international break on a high.

It wasn't pretty for large portions of the game, but Mikey Johnston's tap-in, his first goal for his country, soon after coming on opened the floodgates for the Republic as they started playing more free-flowing football.

Evan Ferguson added a second with a superb header from centurion James McClean, who also came close to scoring.

McClean provided another assist in injury-time for Adam Idah's first international goal, again a header as the Republic made up for Friday's defeat against Greece.

In the end it was a comfortable evening for Stephen Kenny, despite the fact they could have scored far more goals, and it will give his side confidence ahead of daunting fixtures against France and the Netherlands in September.

Look at the smile on his face, that tells you everything you need to know about this young man. He's been through so many injury problems. Quality ball from McClean and that is a good header, gave the goalkeeper no chance.

Huge cheers ring out as Jason Knight is announced across the stadium as the man of the match.

The Derby man shone in his role on the right, with his non-stop energy key to pushing the Republic forward.

Ferguson's miss will be his last contribution of the evening as Adam Idah replaces him.

Knight, who has to be a contender for man of the match, also goes off with the experienced Jeff Hendrick on in his place.

They're out on their feet at the moment. They cannot wait for the final whistle.

The Republic should be four or five goals up here, as Ferguson sees another opportunity go begging.

Browne whips in a great cross for Ferguson, who heads straight at Coleing.

Kenny's side are capitalising on a tiring Gibraltar side.

How has McClean missed that?!

After intricate play in the box, Johnston pulls the ball back to centurion McClean, who, with only the goalkeeper to beat, blazes high over the crossbar.

On second glance, it appeared to take a nick off a Gibraltar defender.

That was his moment to mark his special occasion with a goal.

He almost registers another assist as he swings in the resulting corner moments later which O'Shea heads against the crossbar.

He's a live wire isn't he. He always wants to get it on his right foot. He has imagination and gives something a little different in the final third.

Johnston cuts inside and flashes a shot just wide of the far post. The crowd are willing the Republic forward for another goal.

Stephen Kenny certainly enjoyed Ferguson's goal which may have helped to ease recent pressure on the Republic manager

The diligent Smallbone is replaced by Alan Browne in the Republic's third change.

Browne is on to win his 30th cap.

Evan Ferguson can't stop scoring for club and now country this season as he netted his second on his fifth cap for the Republic with a fine header.

Three saves from Coleing prevent the Republic from netting a third.

Johnston, who has really made an impact since coming on, sees his curling effort spilled by the goalkeeper.

Coleing does well to recover and tip the ball away from Parrott before the substitute can prod home.

The ball eventually falls to Cullen on the edge of the box, and Coleing tips his powerful strike away from danger.

There's a few tired legs and tired minds out there for Gibraltar. You can see they're not moving across the pitch like they were in the first half.

The Republic are hungry for more and are now a side playing with confidence against a tired Gibraltar outfit.

Ferguson plays a raking cross-field pass to the onrushing Knight, but on the slide the Derby player is unable to hit the target.
