The 2,500 Republic fans that travelled to Athens for the Greece game certainly made themselves heard at the Stadium, but there are set to be over 51,000 in attendance at the Aviva Stadium tonight.

The Republic produced a spirited display against France in their last home fixture in March, going toe to toe with the World Cup finalists for large periods of the game.

Fans will be hoping for a more attacking performance from Stephen Kenny's men after Friday's disappointing showing in the Greek capital.

Republic of Ireland v Gibraltar (19:45 BST)

Gibraltar are the minnows of the group, and have lost their opening three fixtures by a 3-0 score line against Greece, the Netherlands and most recently France on Friday night.

They are ranked 201st by FIFA, and come to Dublin hoping to spring an upset.

The two sides have met on four previous occasions in Euro qualifying.

The Republic secured a 7-0 win in Dublin and 4-0 away triumph as they qualified for Euro 2016.

The two games in the Euro 2020 qualifiers were much tighter however, with the Republic Ireland only winning 1-0 in Gibraltar before a 2-0 victory in Dublin in the last meeting between these two sides in June 2019.

Republic of Ireland v Gibraltar (19:45 BST)

Republic of Ireland boss Stephen Kenny fully expects to be in charge for the remainder of the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign.

With the Republic winless in their first two games, pressure has mounted on the former Under-21, with reports suggesting he could be replaced before his contract finishes.

Yet, Kenny has brushed off the rumours and insists his full focus is on tonight's game and not his future.

The Republic of Ireland's hopes of reaching next year's European Championships in Germany were dented by a damaging 2-1 defeat against Greece in Athens.

Nathan Collins had cancelled out Tasos Bakasetas' opener from the penalty spot before Giorgos Masouras hit second-half winner.

Matt Doherty was sent off in injury-time, and will therefore miss tonight's game.

Republic of Ireland v Gibraltar (19:45 BST)

James McClean will captain the Republic tonight as he becomes only the seventh Irishman to win 100 caps for his country.

The President of the Republic of Ireland Michael D Higgins will be pitch-side for a special presentation to McClean before kick-off.

The 34-year old made his debut in February 2012, coming on as a substitute in a friendly against the Czech Republic at the Aviva Stadium.

He has scored 11 goals since then, but the last of those came in 2021.

Republic of Ireland v Gibraltar (19:45 BST)

Hello and welcome to our coverage of Republic of Ireland's home clash against Gibraltar at the Aviva Stadium.

Tonight's game against the lowest seeds in the group Gibraltar, is a must win for the Republic, if they harbour any ambition of qualifying for Euro 2024.

Stephen Kenny's side are still looking to pick up their first three points of the campaign after they lost their two opening Group B games against France and Greece.

With a daunting September double header against World Cup finalists France in Paris and a home game against the group’s top seeds the Netherlands to come, a comprehensive victory this evening will be required to boost confidence and keep their slim hopes of qualification alive.
