That half-time change from the Republic has indeed implemented a change in system.

They are now play a 4-3-3 with Johnston and Obafemi either side of Ferguson.

Gibraltar kick off the second period and Gibraltar win an early corner which the Republic manage to clear.

Its half-time at the Aviva and after a lot of huffing and puffing, the Republic have so far failed to break down Gibraltar's defence.

Ferguson's glaring miss with a close range header and McGrath forcing a sprawling save from Coleing, are as close as Stephen Kenny's side have come to an opener.

They have had a lot of the ball, but must up the tempo in the second-half to carve open this stubborn Gibraltar side.

In fairness to Gibraltar they are working hard. The two central midfielder epitomise the way they play with their closing down.

The Republic have become sloppy in the final third, which will suit Gibraltar, who are happy to defend deep and limit the hosts to shots from range, like they just have done with Cullen this time.

The Republic almost make a set piece count once again.

An in-swinging delivery eventually falls to John Egan at the back post, and although he hooks it back across the face of goal, Gibraltar clear.

McClean is the latest Republic player to go close with a header, as his looping effort sails past the far post after he latched onto Knight's deep cross.

Also at the game this evening are Vera Pauw's Republic of Ireland women's squad, who have been training in Dublin this week as they ramp up preparations for their first World Cup this summer.
