On the back of huge success on the field - winning an historic Treble - Manchester City are also looking to ensure they have plenty to show off the field.

Chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak has been talking about plans to redevelop the Etihad Stadium and also further developing infrastructure around the City Football Group.

He said: "We've released and unveiled our plans for the development. Every year there's always something new. Every year. Because there's always a need to improve and evolve and grow. We don't stand still.

"The Etihad, we started somewhere and every couple of years we will do something. Now we're going to have a wonderful, wonderful development around it that's going to just enhance the whole area, is going to be great for the fans and it's going to bring, I think, positive revenue for the club.

"We're always in growth mode, we’re never in contentment and pause and let's just milk the asset. Because this is about building value and growing value, and it's about reinvesting consistently into this club.

"It's about redeveloping the Etihad, it's about building the CFA, it's about building a stadium in New York, it's about building an academy in Girona, it's about building an academy in Palermo, it's about investing in a club in Brazil and taking it to win hopefully and compete at the highest level in South America and it's always about creating and building true value for this great group.”

  4. 'Women's game has arrived'published at 14:34 British Summer Time 20 June 2023

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak says he is "very focused" on helping the women's team to continue growing.

City finished fourth in the WSL in 2022-23, missing out on qualification for the Champions League on goal difference.

Khaldoon said: “The women’s game has certainly evolved in a way I didn’t expect in this speed. It’s really evolved very fast, and it is certainly something we are very focused on.

"My daughter Lulu reminds me every day that the women’s team ‘has to be your focus’. She watches every game. She doesn’t miss a game. And that tells me – it’s a great reminder for me and for all of us that the game has arrived. The women’s game has arrived, it’s real, its fanbase is growing.

"Our women’s team has always been again very consistent – always there, always competitive. I think we will look at this season as a positive season – in the sense that we were very competitive all the way until the end.

"We have a great manager, we have a great core of players, and we have a commitment from the organisation to help this group to continue to grow, continue to improve and compete and win.”

Rochdale head groundsman Joshua Haigh has been charged with alleged improper conduct related to race or colour by the Football Association.

The breach of FA rule E3 was allegedly made towards a broadcaster's presenter following Rochdale's League Two match against Stockport County in February.

It is also alleged Haigh's conduct constitutes an aggravated breach of the FA's rule because of the race element.

In a statement, external, Rochdale confirmed Haigh will contest the charge.

The club said Haigh, who has until 23 June to respond, would request a personal hearing.

Rochdale added they had offered "full support" to their employee having "reviewed the evidence available" and were "fully complying" with the process.

Arsenal have made a bid, believed to be around £30m, for Ajax’s highly-rated Dutch international Jurrien Timber.

Numerous Premier League clubs, including Manchester United, have been linked with Timber, who has two years left on his current deal.

It is thought Ajax want in excess of that figure, although personal terms are not thought likely to be a problem if an agreement over the fee is reached.

Arsenal are optimistic about completing a deal.

However, other clubs, including Bayern Munich, are known to be interested in signing the defender this summer.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is keen to strengthen his defence in what could be a summer of change at Arsenal. There is uncertainty over the futures of Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka amid ongoing interest in West Ham skipper Declan Rice.

Manchester United takeover: Gary Neville says "it's embarrassing" how long sale is taking

Manchester United defender Gary Neville was asked on BBC Radio 5 Live's Breakfast show this morning what he felt about the Glazers - the club's owners - and the ongoing takeover saga.

"I think it is embarrassing but it is sort of what they have done," he said. "They sort of drag everything out - always in their best interests and not in the best interests of the football club.

"I thought they would wait until the end of the season, beyond the FA Cup final, so they weren't subject to protests and then it would be dealt with quite quickly.

"But just speaking to journalists and people around the club, there is just no news.

"The idea of Manchester United Football Club, with its millions of fans, not just in this country but around the world, not being updated by their owners in respect of an ownership sale is, quite frankly, not good enough.

"But it is fitting with the Glazers' ownership and how they have operated silently and away from the club over in America for the last 20 years now."

  9. 'Lack of medical checks unacceptable' - Fifpropublished at 13:51 British Summer Time 20 June 2023

The Women's World Cup kicks off on 20 July when both co-hosts - Australia and New Zealand - will be in action.

Excitement is building in the run-up to the tournament, but there has been some negativity surrounding the conditions endured by players during the qualifying rounds.

Many had to endure poor pitches and did not receive proper medical checks, the world players' union said.

A survey of 362 players also found 29% were not paid for qualification games.

Fifpro said Fifa must improve conditions for all players in qualification for the next World Cup.

"Any stat below 100% in access to important medical checks is unacceptable," Fifpro women's football lead Sarah Gregorius said.

"We just want to work with whoever wants to work with us, particularly Fifa and the confederations, to understand why that is the case and how that can be prevented [from happening again] because that is certainly not something that should be acceptable to anybody."

England Under-21 manager Lee Carsley has named a very strong 23-man for the European Championship in Romania and Georgia.

The Young Lions are two-time winners of the competition - lifting the trophy in 1982 and 1984 - but they suffered a disappointing group stage exit two years ago.

Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun was England's top scorer with six in qualifying but he's since switched allegience to the USA.

There is plenty of experience still in the squad, though, with Aston Villa's Jacob Ramsey, Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White and Liverpool's Harvey Elliott among players who are Premier League regulars.

Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer managed four goals in qualifying, at a rate of one every 35 minutes, netting with all four shots on target.
