Wales are on the back foot again, scrambling a bit after Ashley Sanchez's corner is not properly cleared.

Fortunately for the visitors, the follow-up ball into the box sails into the arms of keeper Olivia Clark.

There is nothing to suggest the players are doing anything other than what has been asked of them.

We'd like to see more retention of the ball but, in terms of defensive structure and keeping the ball out of dangerous areas, Wales have done really well.

Injuries on both sides. USA forward Alyssa Thompson seems to have a sore ankle and is looking a little uncomfortable.

Wales' Hannah Cain, meanwhile, gets some treatment for what looks like a hamstring issue.

They're both going to carry on for now.

Another USA corner is cleared and Wales have their first real spell of possession.

Crystal Dunn has been busy on the USA's left but her latest cross is cut out by Wales' defenders.

The visitors have defended their penalty area effectively, limiting their opponents' attacking threat.

USA have played six games in the last two and a half weeks, their squad rotation is massive.

If you look at their bench I don't think any squad has a bench of that calibre.

Just past the halfway point in the first half and it shows the USA have had 80% of possession.

That's a painful one for Wales' Lily Woodham, who's on the end of a late challenge from Alyssa Thompson.

Both players go for a header and Thompson just mistimes her jump, clattering into Woodham, who needs treatment on a nasty looking eye injury.

Wales have to make sure they keep hold of the ball when they gain possession to give the defence and midfield a chance to reorganise themselves.

Sophia Smith has been a livewire on the USA's right wing so far and she tests the Welsh defence with another darting run.

So far, so solid from Wales, though. They're holding firm for now.

I'm really pleased to see Wales be aggressive and press higher.

The USA have looked supremely comfortable so far but they almost get caught out in defence as Wales' Carrie Jones almost pinches possession in the American penalty area.

Then there's a bit of a worry for Wales as midfielder Ceri Holland takes her time to get up from the ground. They'll hope she's fine to continue.

It's a struggle for Wales to get even the faintest whiff of possession at the moment, but they're digging in and competing well thanks to their defensive discipline.

Trying to contain this USA side in the heat looks like tiring work.

It's important to start the game well, but today more than any other time with this atmosphere and the difference in the seasons.

Wales need to weather the storm to try and frustrate the Americans and stay nice and compact.

A first chance for the USA and it falls to captain Lindsey Horan, whose diving header is saved by Olivia Clark in the Wales goal.

Simple enough save but this American pressure is building.

Angharad James always leads through her play, she isn't the loudest on the pitch but she has great respect from everybody.

She is aligned with Gemma Grainger which is huge when stepping in to a leadership role.

Wales concede another corner as Lily Woodham covers well to halt an American attack.

Alana Cook tries her luck with a long-range shot after the corner is blocked, but her effort is blocked.

USA are well on top.
