It's difficult to know where Norway are at - they got the result against the Philippines but this is a different level of opponent they are facing today.

    Japan v Norway (09:00 BST)

Last time out former world champions Norway rediscovered their form in the nick of time as Sophie Haug's hat-trick helped them hammer the Philippines 6-0 to reach the last 16.

Norway came into the match having failed to get the ball in the net in their two previous games, with an opening-game defeat and second-game draw leaving them under serious threat of going out before the knockout rounds of a World Cup for only the second time.

All of this had been played out to the noise of disharmony in their camp, with rumours of discontent coming to a head when star star Caroline Graham Hansen went public with her criticism following the decision to bench her for the draw with Switzerland.

I think Japan have been the best team in the tournament so far, I've really enjoyed watching them.

A really balanced team - they have played every player in the squad bar one.

    Japan v Norway (09:00 BST)

Japan are blowing teams away and have arguably been the standout team of the tournament so far, having scored more goals than anyone else, while they have yet to concede in 270 minutes.

In Hinata Miyazawa, who has four goals in two starts, they possess the tournament's joint-leading scorer but the talent runs deep in this squad, which includes eight players aged 23 or under.

Boss Futoshi Ikeda started 17 players in the three group games with only goalkeeper Ayaka Yamashita, captain Saki Kumagai, defender Moeka Minami and full-back Risa Shimizu starting all three games.

They were a joy to watch in the 4-0 demolition of Spain despite having only five attempts on goal. It was a masterclass in precision finishing as they scored three goals from their first three touches in the box.

  5. Japan star in groupspublished at 08:34 British Summer Time 5 August 2023

    Japan v Norway (09:00 BST)

There are only three teams who have reached the knockouts with a 100% win record - England, Sweden and Japan.

Japan, 2011 World Cup winners, along with Jamaica, haven't conceded a goal at the tournament. And they've been ace in attack too, having stunned Spain with a ruthless 4-0 win.
