Australia 1-0 Denmark
An hour gone and this will suit Australia perfectly. Despite Denmark having dominated possession at times they've just not done enough to worry the Australia defence.

I can't remember ever seeing a better pass than that Mary Fowler through ball. Perfectly weighted over 50 yards, flat so the striker didn't have to bring it down, and somehow pinging it exactly through the tiny gap between three opponents. Utterly brilliant.

Superb ball by Emily van Egmond as she sends Caitlin Foord away on the left. Foord gets into the box and attempts the cutback but it is stabbed behind for a corner.

Australia can't be giving that much room to Pernille Harder.
As soon as she picked up the ball there she was looking to drive forward and get a shot away.
The shot isn't good enough in the end but Australia must look to engage there.
Australia 1-0 Denmark
The bounce of the ball that is sent over the top is a little awkward for Mackenzie Arnold, and has to gather at the second attempt. Fortunately, there's no Denmark player waiting to pounce.

Still a vibrant atmosphere at the fan zone as the second half starts.
Note the green and gold lights atop the office blocks. City wide support for the Matildas in Melbs.

Amalie Vangsgaard rises to flick on a long ball from the back. She's anticipating the run of Pernille Harder but its not one she's made and another move comes to nothing for Denmark.
Australia 1-0 Denmark
Katrine Veje tries to pick out Pernille Harder with a ball over the top but there's too much on it and Mackenzie Arnold is able to gather under no pressure.
Australia 1-0 Denmark
Emily van Egmond gets crunched by three Denmark players as she attempts to hold the ball up just inside the Australia half.
A quiet start to the second half as both sides tussle for control.

In the first half there was a good intensity about Denmark, trying to get the ball forward and playing it from side to side.
Just when they got the openings they failed to make it count.

They have pumped the fans up for the second half with a unity beat cam.
Everyone plays pretend drums with their phone lights on, which is very effective in the darkness.
Ready to see what the next 45 minutes will bring.

Here we go then. A big 45 minutes ahead for both sides.

It's been nice to see Denmark dominate possession.
I watched them in the group stage and it was very complicated and difficult for them on the ball.
Today they have been better, playing very high up the pitch, but in the end they are the ones to have conceded first.

When they lost Sam Kerr on the eve of the tournament, they were forced to change shape. That didn't work for the first two games, they lost against Nigeria.
But the tactical change they made in the Canada game, which has been continued today, the 4-2-4, with the front four very high, has really suited their style of play.
Raso and Foord have been very involved and Fowler too in the middle has seen plenty of the ball.

Here's the goal that gave Australia the lead - a masterclass in counterattacking football.

A very satisfactory first half for Australia.
The crowd doesn't need whipping up any more into a frenzy - but the stadium DJ has put on AC/DC's Thunderstruck for us all to rock out to!
And there's an impressive light show too - for Sydney's favourite rock gods!

Whoops and cheers as the whistle blows for half time, the fans in Melbourne very satisfied with that 45 minutes.
Also cheers whenever Sam Kerr is shown on the big screen, it would be very popular were she to come off the bench.

You really feel for Sam Kerr.
It feels like she is a player that hardly ever gets injured, and now on the eve of a home World Cup she picks up this calf issue.
So unlucky.
