Pernille Harder is doing everything right apart from that final shot.

Good work to come inside onto her preferred right foot but not enough power or precision on the shot.

Another chance for Pernille Harder. She cuts inside from the left to find a gap between two Australian players and she goes for goal but there's not enough power in her shot and Mackenzie Arnold gathers.

    Australia 0-0 Denmark

Pernille Harder is everywhere in the final third for Denmark.

A quarter of an hour gone and it's been pretty much Denmark's quarter of an hour so far.

  4. Postpublished at 13 mins

    Australia 0-0 Denmark

I think those couple of moments for Denmark have unnerved Australia again as they are defending super deep now.

Harder has started well hasn't she?

Wanting to get on the ball in the pockets and drive at the Australia defence.

It's safe to say the Olympic Stadium is awash with green and gold as the Australia fans have come out in force with only a few pockets of Denmark fans.

It's only the second match to be played at this stadium in this tournament. Australia beat Republic of Ireland 1-0 on the opening day on 20 July.

That feels a very long time ago now as we get down to the business end of the tournament.

  7. Postpublished at 11 mins

    Australia 0-0 Denmark

Pernille Harder is showing the danger she represents as she drives at the defence, Australia players can't get a tackle in before Harder thumps an effort just wide.

    Australia 0-0 Denmark

    Sue Smith

This is a really good opportunity for Denmark who get the ball out wide.

She goes with her wrong foot, it was a brilliant chance.

    Australia 0-0 Denmark

Ooh, that's a decent chance for Denmark.

They get the ball out wide to Janni Thomsen, who plays a great cross in behind the defence and Pernille Harder is there but can't get the right connection.

    Australia 0-0 Denmark

Australia are indeed starting to settle a bit and Katrina Gorry fires a cross into the area but Stine Ballisager is there to head away the danger.

    Australia 0-0 Denmark

A couple of loose passes from Australia, who feel a little bit rushed in these early stages. They are dominating possession but just need to settle a bit.

  12. 'Do Denmark have quality in final third?published at 11:32 British Summer Time 7 August 2023

    Australia 0-0 Denmark

    Sue Smith

It's tough. It's been so dramatic after the England result. I think Australia will want another performance like they did against Canada.

Denmark, you expect them to be tight defensively. Do they have the quality in the final third when the chance comes?

  13. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Australia 0-0 Denmark

An early shooting chance for Denmark as Australia don't clear a ball into the box very well but Katrine Veje scuffs her shot straight at the goalkeeper.

I would describe the response to Chloe Kelly’s winning penalty for England as being begrudging applause.

Much more positive reception for the Matildas as this game gets under way.

It’s now standing room only at the Melbourne fan park - and even then it would be a squeeze.

If you want an indicator as to the popularity of the Matildas, this size crowd on a Monday midwinter night should do it.
