It has been an interesting start so far.

Out of possession Spain are tucking in narrow so to stop England playing through them, and then in possession they are stretching the pitch wide with the wing backs, Batlle in particular.

Lots of early combinations between Batlle and Bonmati on this right hand side.

Good from England, passing around the box and it comes out to Lauren Hemp who decides to go for it. She drives her shot low and hard but it's a simple collection for Cata Coll.

England have blocked crosses and won 50-50 balls throughout the tournament. We're four minutes in, and Millie Bright has already blocked a cross with her chest, while Lauren Hemp has taken a clattering after winning the ball before Irene Parades.

We're forgetting that Millie Bright has been out for four months.

She's come into this side and she has put in top, top performances and she has come in as England captain.

That's a lot of pressure for this player but she has stood tall and she is leading this team to hopefully a World cup.

First sniff of goal for Spain. Some good build-up play from La Roja and Ona Batlle goes for goal but England captain Millie Bright is in the way. No danger.

Smiles on the England players' faces as they belt out of the national anthem.

Handshakes done. Some of these players know each other very well, a lot of them play together in domestic football.

Friends away from the pitch. But today, it's all business.

I have backed England from the start and I'm not going to change my mind now.

Spain have got quality players and will have lots of possession but England also have world-class players. And they have the big-game experience, having beaten Spain on their way to winning Euro 2022.

The teams are at opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to togetherness. The problems within the Spanish system and the debate over coach Jorge Vilda's methods are well documented, while England are closely knit and are enjoying themselves.

I think this, together with Sarina Wiegman, are the extra percentage points that will get England over the line.

And I'm confident it could be a similar scoreline to England's win in the semi-final. I think they will start with the same XI as they did in the semi-final but will bring Lauren James and Chloe Kelly off the bench, to play their part too in the final.

    Brown-Finnis' prediction: 1-3

I'm so excited, I've got goosebumps.

The history building towards this, disappointments in 2015 and 2019, through to today, where we have the opportunity to win the trophy.

I'm excited to see a fantastic game between these two talented sides. It is going to be a game of chess, it's going to be who can capitalise on the key moments and be the most ruthless.

The England players are looking very relaxed in the tunnel. Lucy Bronze, Georgia Stanway and Rachel Daly are laughing and joking and chatting with their mascots.

The World Cup trophy has been brought out onto the pitch. It's almost time.

Out come the teams. History beckons. One to go.

  17. 'Lionesses have nerves of steel'published at 10:56 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

    Spain v England (11:00 BST)

    Karen Bardsley
Former England and Manchester City goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

I don't think these Lionesses have nerves, and if they do they are nerves of steel.

I bumped into them by chance just as they were heading out on their team walk earlier. They are so cool and calm, we were just catching up like old friends, not evem talkiing about the game.

The squad have really grown into the tournament, shown so much adaptability throughout the competition. And I think they will go into this game with all the confidence in the world.

  19. 'We always had the ability, but Sarina has provided the belief'published at 10:54 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

    Spain v England (11:00 BST)

    Faye White
Ex-England captain on BBC Radio 5 Live

After my time under Hope Powell we said that we just need a manager to look to, who has been there and done it, and won things.

Sarina was an experienced player, a hundred and odd caps for the Netherlands, knows the women's game inside and out.

When she took over the Netherlands side in 2017, she took them to winning a home Euros and then to a World Cup final. Yes they did have some good players in that side, but she had to make them believe.

That is exactly what she has done with England.

We had the ability, have gone very close before - two semi-finals before this one. But she has made the side believe, as a player you look at someone like her and think 'You've been there and done it, I've got to listen to you and trust you.'
