Lucy Bronze was absolutely livid at that passage of play. She drove forward, beat a few players and cut inside but everyone seemed to run away from her.

She carried it too far, lost the ball and Spain exploited that space.

Bronze was flapping her arms furiously when she lost possession then fell to the floor in frustration when they scored.

Peter Humfrey: That run forward and failure to lay the ball off left us open. Good counter and well hit goal from Spain. We're still in this but all the hard work of the first 30 minutes undone in a moment

Dr David: Poor goal to concede. England are too slow getting forward. No options to the left when we lost the ball in the middle of the park and why is Russo the one tracking back?!

Jon Evans: This Spain team look good, been the better team. Good finish that too. Impressive performance by them, the occasion hasn't got to them at all. England still in this though, not that far off.

That is a blow for England. But they've had to come from behind before.

Mary Earps was absolutely screaming at her team-mates again.

It's only the second time England have been behind at this tournament. It took them seven minutes to respond against Colombia. How will they respond here?

  5. 'That is perfection'published at 11:33 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

    Spain 1-0 England

Just a little lack of discipline from Lucy Bronze, a touch too many.

Spain used the space left by Bronze, despite Alessia Russo running back.

Olga Carmona drills it hard and low. That is perfection. That's what it takes to beat Mary Earps in open play.

One time England switch off and they are punished. England need to reset.

    Karen Bardsley

Spain absolutely nailed the transition there. World class, intelligent, attacking football.

Bronze gave the ball away on the half way line and they just exploited the space she left in behind next to Carter.

Olga Carmona the captain with the low finish, a fantastic strike lined up brilliantly.

GOAL - Spain 1-0 Englandpublished at 11:30 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

    Olga Carmona (29 mins)

    Breakthrough.

Well it's been end to end but it's Spain who strike first.

Lucy Bronze does really well and goes on one of those runs thorugh midfield, she was looking to lay off for Ella Toone but she's surrounded by two Spain players and can't get it out of her feet properly.

Alessia Russo was busting a gut down the left to chase down Olga Carmona but she can't get there.

It's a stunning left-foot drive into the bottom corner, far away from the gloves of Mary Earps.

England will have to come from behind to win this.

  8. 'Spain executing game plan very well'published at 11:29 British Summer Time 20 August 2023

    Spain 0-0 England

    Karen Bardsley
Former England and Manchester City goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

I don't think this is a case of nerves for England, more a case of a very well executed game plan from Spain.

Spain are so confident in their technical ability that they are happy to be patient and take their time.

Mary Earps will be hoarse. Trying to command your backline in front of 70,000 fans is such a difficult task.

You have to use down time to get your messages across. These girls are used to it now.

Here is that big save from Mary Earps earlier. She was livid with her defenders after this. She doesn't want to have to deal with many more of these.

Pitch invader swiftly dealt with and England's free kick amounted to nothing.

This match has been played at 100mph so far so will we see more of that or is it time to just get some control?

Should have been a yellow card, Ona Batlle's foul on Lauren Hemp was certainly cynical.

    Spain 0-0 England

Ona Batlle steps across Lauren Hemp and it's a definite foul on the England forward.

Possibly a booking but the referee just awards the free-kick.

Georgia Stanway is standing over it but we have a slight delay as someone enters the pitch.

    Chances at both ends.

I haven't heard a single 0-0 prediction for this final.

Everyone knows how brilliant Spain are offensively and how efficient England are.

It’s been a cagey start for England but the fans here in Croydon are willing the Lionesses on from 10,000 miles away.

The biggest cheer in the fan zone so far has been for Sarina Wiegman. The place erupted when the much-loved England coach appeared on the big screen.

The boos were about as loud for Spanish coach Jorge Vilda, who has come in for heavy criticism from some within his own squad.

Early nerves but the fans here are loving every minute.

    Spain 0-0 England

    Karen Bardsley
Former England and Manchester City goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

Definitely dodged a bullet there England. Spain are throwing plenty of numbers forward.

This is going to be a game of risk and reward. Spain are targteting the wide centre back and full backs for England, which is also limiting their out ball when they do win the ball back.
