Pep Guardiola has won his fourth European Super Cup, equalling Carlo Ancelotti as the manager with most titles in this competition.

The Catalan has won with a record three clubs - Barcelona (twice), Bayern Munich and now Manchester City.

Sevilla forward Erik Lamela to TNT Sports: "It's really frustrating to lose a game like this. It was really close so we are very sad.

"But I'm proud of my team-mates.

"Last time we won on penalties [in the Europa League final] but this time it didn't happen. We put a lot of effort in and ran a lot for 90 minutes against a very good team.

"We know Manchester City are one of the best in the world so to compete against them is good. We gave our all."

Cole Palmer is the first Englishman to score in the Uefa Super Cup since Gary Cahill in 2012.

Some 31% of Youssef En-Nesyri's goals for Sevilla have been headers (17/55). Since his debut for the club in January 2020, he's scored more headed goals than any other La Liga player.

Morocco's En-Nesyri is the fifth African player to score in the Uefa Super Cup.

City midfielder Jack Grealish to TNT Sports: "It was unbelievable. The manager made it so clear to us before the game how much he wants this trophy. You want to win everything anyway but that gave us more of an urge. it was a brilliant feeling.

"Over the last 10 or 15 years this club has been so successful, they've won so many Premier Leagues, FA Cups, Carabao Cups. We've been waiting for this. To add another one to the collection. This is what I came here to do.

"It was so hot and humid. They made it hard for us, fair play, they're a good team.

"Getting the break at half-time, getting some words from the manager was important. We changed a few things. A good night all round."

On Cole Palmer: "That's what you have to do as a young lad. I was in that position at Villa. You have to perform when given the chance and he's done that. He's such a nice kid, I'm so happy for him.

"We'll go home tonight. We have another game in three days. Straight to recovery and then back to the Premier League."

Ten of the last 11 Uefa Super Cups have been won by the previous season's Champions League winner.

The Champions League holders have won all four penalty shootouts in the competition.

It's the first time City have been in this competition and they've won it.

After one Premier League game of the season, City have added another trophy to their cabinet.

The Uefa president hands Kyle Walker the trophy and he brings it over to his team-mates and they lift it up and start dancing round.

Now Manchester City players go up to get their fourth winners' medals of the year.

Man City goalscorer Cole Palmer to TNT Sports: "Obviously losing on penalties [in the Community Shield] is never nice. To come here and win the Super Cup is lovely."

Is he at his best? "Not yet. It's early in the season. We just have to kick on from here."

Man City captain Kyle Walker to TNT Sports: "It was always going to be a tough game. The lads put in a good performance. We have to be more clinical but we got the job done.

"If anyone played with me they know I don’t like taking penalties because I don't like letting people down if I miss. Pep put me in at five. [I wanted to] show leadership. Luckily it went in and was the winning one."

On Cole Palmer: "This guy is incredible and he’s got good players to learn off and the best manager in the world. He needs to keep going, keep his feet on the floor like he has been and keep scoring goals. If he keeps improving he’ll be fine.

"Good teams capitalise on people’s mistakes. We rode our luck and we got there. There were tough conditions, everyone sweating, you can see it’s really hot.

"We've come away with this cup. To win this and put it in trophy cabinet at City is a good feeling."

Manchester City have become the sixth different English team to win the European Super Cup, a record for one country.

Aston Villa, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United and Nottingham Forest have all lifted this one before.
