Summary

  • First of eight Viaplay Cup second-round ties

  1. Postpublished at 48 mins

    Stirling Albion 0-1 Aberdeen

An early chance for Stirling Albion, as they flash a cross towards the back post. It goes out for a corner... or wait, no, David Munro says it's a goal kick. Hmm.

The Dons start the second 45 minutes dangerously.

  2. Second-half begins!published at 46 mins

    Stirling Albion 0-1 Aberdeen

The Binos kick-off against the Dandies - hopefully there won't be any comical defending for either side!

That pun comes courtesy of my colleague Tyrone Smith - it even got a run out on the radio.

Right, enough of that jollity. It's time for the second-half. No changes for either side.

  3. 'Get the tie finished'published at 20:45 British Summer Time 18 August 2023

    HT: Stirling Albion 0-1 Aberdeen

    Willie Miller
Former Aberdeen captain on BBC Sportsound

It has been a difficult game for Aberdeen. Defensively, they'll have to be much more alert after those two chances at the end. They can't give Stirling an opportunity.

The fans are behind Stirling, the players want to show Aberdeen what they're made of. If Stirling get an equaliser, it'll be a really difficult night.

Barry Robson will be telling them 'get an early goal and get the tie finished'.

  4. 'Aberdeen will be delighted'published at 20:42 British Summer Time 18 August 2023

    HT: Stirling Albion 0-1 Aberdeen

    Stephen McGinn
Former St Mirren midfielder on BBC Sportsound

Aberdeen don't waste any time getting forward, they've got real attacking threats right across the board. Shayden Morris has been electric at times, close to unplayable when he gets going. Leighton Clarkson has started to run the show.

With the spirit of the ground and the vibe, the momentum with Stirling... this wasn't an easy place to come tonight, so Aberdeen will be delighted to go in 1-0 up.

  5. HALF-TIME Stirling Albion 0-1 Aberdeenpublished at 20:35 British Summer Time 18 August 2023

Bojan Miovski's goal is the only thing separating these two teams at Forthbank Stadium.

By no means has this been easy for Aberdeen, and the Stirling Albion fans will be quite happy that their side are certainly still in this.

It was hard work from Nicky Devlin that set up the goal, surging down the right-hand side to cut back to the North Macedonian.

Shayden Morris has probably been the pick so far. The winger looks electric.

  6. Remember him?published at 44 mins

    Stirling Albion 0-1 Aberdeen

Stirling have another chance through Dale Carrick, but this time the offside flag is up.

If that name rings a bell, the now-bald striker - known as 'Speedy' - made over 50 appearances for boyhood club Hearts, where he is now a youth coach.

He scored 25 goals last season - Aberdeen will be keeping an eye on him.

  7. Postpublished at 41 mins

    Stirling Albion 0-1 Aberdeen

    Stirling have their best chance!

Duk went down as he surged towards the Albion goal. David Munro waved play on and Dale Carrick was put through on the counter.

But, Kelle Roos was on hand to make a double save. That would have been contentious!

    Stirling Albion 0-1 Aberdeen

Bad news for Dons fans - Duk's gone down hurt.

The good news - he should be okay to continue, after a few minutes of treatment. Panic over.

In the meantime, enjoy this picture of the celebratory scenes after Miovski's opener.

    Stirling Albion 0-1 Aberdeen

Aberdeen are hunting for a quick second. Graeme Shinnie finds Dante Polvara, who bursts forward. He gets it to Shayden Morris, into the box, and Blair Currie makes the save from a tight angle.

Morris is like a new signing for Barry Robson. He was anonymous last year.

  10. YELLOW CARDpublished at 33 mins

    Stirling Albion 0-1 Aberdeen

Shayden Morris is taken out of play right on the edge of the box. That couldn't be much closer to a penalty, it's inches outside the box.

The first caution goes to Cameron Clark. That's some tightrope for him to walk now.

    Stirling Albion 0-1 Aberdeen

    Stephen McGinn
Former St Mirren midfielder on BBC Sportsound

It was the first time in the game that the Stirling midfield had dropped off Aberdeen a bit. Leighton Clarkson was able to dictate and when you get him in the game, he can make such a difference.

    Stirling Albion 0-1 Aberdeen

    Willie Miller
Former Aberdeen captain on BBC Sportsound

It's Nicky Devlin who makes that goal with that run down the right-hand side, showing good pace, taking on the full-back.

It's pretty simple, it's a foot race. Miovski still has a lot of work to do and he doesn't really catch it that sweetly or cleanly, and it trickles in.

Is it deserved? They've not created much but they've been exceptional down the right.

GOAL - Stirling Albion 0-1 Aberdeenpublished at 29 mins

    Bojan Miovski

Nicky Devlin bursts down the right, cuts it back to Miovski who turns and it's in!

That went in in slow-motion! Miovski gets his second of the season and Aberdeen finally have the lead.

That took longer than they'd like, but the opener is here!

    Stirling Albion 0-0 Aberdeen

    Willie Miller
Former Aberdeen captain on BBC Sportsound

Stirling have had two or three opportunities from throw-ins, that shouldn't be allowed to happen. Darren Young has obviously done the work on the training ground and it's bearing a little fruit.

Aberdeen are not looking as comfortable as I was expecting them to be.

  15. Postpublished at 19 mins

    Stirling Albion 0-0 Aberdeen

Stirling are pressing the Aberdeen midfield well so far. The Dons haven't had too many chances. There was a Shayden Morris cross that Duk couldn't get to, and Blair Currie has just saved well from a Nicky Devlin header - but that's been it.

The Binos are giving it a fair crack so far.

    Stirling Albion 0-0 Aberdeen

Shayden Morris looks like a new man. He's very direct when he gets the ball, almost unplayable when he gets the ball out of his feet that quickly.

  18. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Stirling Albion 0-0 Aberdeen

In case you thought this might be a pushover for Aberdeen, a quick reminder that Stirling Albion have only lost one league game in 2023 - and that was the final league game of the season, when the League Two title was already wrapped up.

Back to tonight - both teams have shown early attacking intent, as they grapple with the conditions.

  19. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 5 mins

    Stirling Albion 0-0 Aberdeen

Aberdeen have the first corner of the game... it's swung in - and Duk hits the crossbar!

In fact, it's a great save from Blair Currie in the Albion goal, tipped onto the woodwork for another corner.

I don't think anybody would have expected Albion to cave in - Barry Robson certainly wouldn't.

The wind is causing a problem. Stirling want to make an early mark - but that's what Aberdeen need to do. they need to take control and not give Stirling Albion any hope at all.
